Chapter 385: 316 Thrilling Speculation_3

Jimmy furrowed his brow and took a deep breath, "Is it that troublesome? It's just a personal thought, but going through the official application process would be a hassle."

John said, "You need to know, the Special Service Bureau isn't just any department, it's not that easy to let you in."

Jimmy replied, "Alright, I'll go back and talk to Hughes about it, but I'm not hopeful."

The two chatted idly, drank a cup of coffee, and John had to return to the White House. Jimmy had nothing else to do, so he bought a ticket and flew back to New York.

Back home, Jimmy sent Tom a message using the unregistered phone from before, and then started tidying up his room. Although he hadn't been gone long, it still needed cleaning, including organizing the fridge and throwing out what needed to be discarded.

Tom returned the call, and Jimmy arranged to meet him that evening.

Today Tom didn't go looking for another place to meet but came directly to Jimmy's apartment, of course after applying makeup. After Jimmy let him in, Tom didn't speak, instead, he opened the case he brought and took out some equipment, starting to check Jimmy's room.

Half an hour later, after checking every nook and cranny, Tom relaxed, packed up his equipment, and put it away.

Jimmy said, "Now we can finally relax. This apartment was bought through an intermediary found by the FBI; it should still be safe."

Tom asked, "Being cautious is never a mistake. What did you want to see me about?"

Jimmy answered, "Two things, or actually, maybe just one thing. You told me to stay away from Frank, so why suddenly tell him I'm Veronica's son? He told a few other people straight away, yeah, some old folks who are in cahoots with him."

Tom said, "You're the one who got yourself into this mess, and you're blaming me? Why did you suddenly get Frank to contact me? Didn't you just want me to confirm your identity?"

Jimmy speechlessly said, "Actually, I only wanted you to confirm that I was someone you knew, one of our own, because their plan is a big deal."

Tom responded, "Although I know Frank, we're definitely not close enough for me to vouch for your relationship with him. The only thing I can testify to is your identity, the son of Veronica. Frank is a legend; he has executed missions all over the world, and he's familiar with Veronica too. Only by revealing that could you stay by his side instead of him finishing you off. You're underestimating Frank; if there's any danger, he'll definitely get rid of you ahead of time."

Jimmy said, "I didn't have a choice. Their next move is too dangerous. Four old men and women with a combined age of over 300 years are about to cause a huge commotion. I had to come back early, not to get involved in their plan. I don't want to live on the run that soon."

Tom asked, "What's the plan?"

Although there were no bugs in the room, Jimmy still habitually looked left and right, whispering, "They plan to kidnap the Vice President."

Tom's eyes nearly popped out, "How dare they? Have they lived long enough yet?"

Jimmy said, "As much as I'd hate to underestimate the Special Service Bureau, their plan actually seems to have a chance of success. But there's still a chance of failure; no one can guarantee such things."

Tom asked, "Where will they strike?"

Jimmy replied, "Chicago. The Vice President is going to have a charity dinner there in the next few days."

Tom advised, "Yeah, don't get involved, just pretend you don't know. They are too bold."

Jimmy inquired further, "I have another thing to ask. Following Frank, it felt like Langley was too lax; I didn't feel that sense of crisis. Are they getting complacent now, or has the CIA always been like this?"

Tom answered, "Because the CIA hasn't activated any emergency plans. I've looked into it; it was just a supervisor who assigned a senior agent to lead the team on Frank's case, and it's not an official case. It's restricted to the intelligence personnel's clearance, and I haven't clarified the rest yet, but one thing is for sure, the fire at Langley that day won't be linked to you, their focus has always been on Frank."

Jimmy said, "Then I'm relieved. Want to have a drink?"

Tom nodded, and Jimmy took out some bottles from his liquor cabinet, poured a drink for each of them, "Cheers."

Jimmy asked, "Tom, how's your situation? Can you tell me what's really going on with you?"

Tom replied, "Yeah, still investigating who's behind the orders, no leads yet. I can talk about it, but can't say too much, too many people are involved. Do you know about the events around 9/11?"

Jimmy responded, "I don't know; I was still with the county police back then."

Tom divulged, "The truth is, although there's no evidence, someone implicitly allowed it to happen. Many people and items were processed over a long period and entered the country, one of the routes being the Mexico line, which was under my jurisdiction. Before the event, I went to receive cargo at sea, then got attacked. I was quite fortunate and managed to escape after falling into the water, but the CIA marked me as deceased and informed my family.

Ever since I got back to the country, I've been trying to figure out the reason. I have already dealt with some of the associated personnel below, but I have yet to find the source of the orders. That's why I've kept you out of this; the ranks of the personnel involved are too high."
