North America Gunman Detective

Chapter 374: 313 go on a field trip.

After parting with Tom and returning to the office, Jimmy had an uneventful night and was preparing to leave in the morning when Chris arrived at the office ahead of schedule.

Jimmy: "Hi, Chris, good morning."

Chris: "Jimmy, good timing, you haven't left yet. The Dallas office contacted Hughes, and they need you to take a trip over there. Apparently, there's a case you handled before that requires some follow-up work. Speaking of which, it's my first time hearing that you actually worked on several cases in Dallas; it seems you were quite active during your apprenticeship period."

Jimmy, full of question marks: "What case? I finished all my cases over there, didn't I?"

Chris: "I don't know about that, Hughes contacted me this morning. Anyway, just head over there first; it's Hughes's arrangement."

Jimmy nodded, looking completely bewildered as he left the office.

Jimmy got into his car, drove out of the parking lot, and immediately called Lambert, the manager of the Dallas office.

Jimmy: "Manager Lambert, this is Jimmy from Manhattan."

Lambert: "Ah, Jimmy, you received the news so quickly."

Jimmy: "Yes, Hughes notified my team leader early this morning. May I know which case it is that needs my wrap-up?"

Lambert: "It's not convenient to talk over the phone. We'll discuss it when you arrive. Come as soon as you can."

Jimmy: "Okay, Manager Lambert, goodbye."

Jimmy hung up the phone, took a shower back home, changed his clothes, and then headed for the airport; ah, another day without sleep.

The flight arrived smoothly in Dallas. Jimmy managed to sleep for close to 3 hours on the plane, feeling somewhat refreshed. He took a taxi from the airport and headed straight for the Dallas office, grabbed a late lunch at a restaurant downstairs, and then went to Lambert's office.

Jimmy knocked on the door: "Manager Lambert, I've arrived."

Lambert looked up at Jimmy with raised eyebrows, expressing surprise: "You came over today? I thought you'd arrive tomorrow."

Jimmy walked up to Lambert's desk, sat down uninvited, "Of course I had to come right away. When Manager Lambert summons, it must be for something very important."

Lambert nodded: "It's good you came earlier. Rest well today. I've arranged to meet with Priest Horton tomorrow; you'll come with me."

Jimmy's brow furrowed as he remembered Priest Horton vividly, "Is it about that disappearance case? Did the exorcism fail?"

Lambert shook his head, "Don't worry, the exorcism was successful. It's something else. Rest assured. Go get some rest now."

Jimmy said goodbye to Lambert and stood up to leave the Dallas office.

Jimmie was quite familiar with the area; he went straight to a nearby hotel, checked into a room, dropped off his backpack, and changed his clothes. Although it was winter, the weather here in Dallas was much better than in New York.

Having slept for close to 3 hours on the plane this morning, he wasn't very sleepy now, so Jimmy chose to head out for a stroll and browse around the shops. He planned to return early in the evening and catch up on lost sleep from the past two days.

The next morning, Jimmy arrived on time at Lambert's office. Lambert tidied up his desk, then drove Jimmy to a church. It was a very small church, nowhere near as grand as those in New York; it looked very ordinary.

Lambert and Jimmy entered the church where Priest Horton was flipping through some books. Seeing them arrive, he closed the book, waved at Lambert and Jimmy, and went into a side room of the church.

On a table against the wall, there was a tin box, a skull, and two books lying next to it.

Priest Horton pointed at the items on the table and said, "These are the things that you dug up from the forest, they have been cleaned, you remember them, don't you, Jimmy?"

Jimmy nodded, "Yes, those. What about them? Shouldn't they be in the evidence room?"

Priest Horton nodded: "Indeed, I brought them from the evidence room a few days ago. Some unexplainable events started happening there recently."

Jimmy: "Please, continue."

That's when Lambert spoke up: "After the case was closed, this box was moved from Tata Town to the forensic center where it was cleaned. Due to being submerged for too long, the two books are completely ruined and it's impossible to fully open the pages. After the skull was cleaned, its DNA was extracted, and it was moved, along with the box, to the FBI evidence room.

Initially, there were no problems, but about ten days ago, some eerie incidents began to occur in the evidence room. First, people started hearing things, then the monitoring center noticed the surveillance footage was shaky, and there would even be brief disappearances of the image, as if the cameras were being interfered with.

I contacted Priest Horton to inspect the evidence room and its surroundings, but we found nothing unusual. After investigating, the only recent addition to the evidence room associated with the strange occurrences was this box and its contents, yet we couldn't find any issues with them.

Since you were the first to detect the anomaly with the box and accurately dug it out from underground, Priest Horton believes you might be able to resolve this matter."

After Lambert finished speaking, Jimmy turned to look at the skull. He had activated Heart Eye as soon as he entered the church—it was his habit to scan every corner of a new place to prevent any dangers.

Upon entering the church, he didn't detect the thread-like substance that had previously emanated from the box, and it all seemed very calm now. Jimmy furrowed his brow, observing the skull and books in front of him. Because they were inside the box last time, he hadn't seen where the threads originated from.
