Although it was Saturday, Mary's studio was still open for normal business hours. As a well-known psychologist, her services were by appointment only, so there wasn't a special requirement for it to be a business day. Moreover, many people found weekends more convenient. However, since all her clients were major ones, the number of clients she saw each day wasn't very high, which allowed her a lot of flexibility in her schedule.
Jimmy was lucky, he called just as Doctor Mary was about to see her first client of the day. Had he called any later, he wouldn't have been able to get through.
Jimmy greeted the receptionist, and since Mary was still with a client, he decided to wait. He sat in the waiting area and flipped through the newspapers available there while waiting for Mary to finish with her client.
It wasn't a long wait, Jimmy only had to wait for a little over half an hour which was quite unusual. Normally, psychologists don't conclude their sessions so quickly, cough cough, their time is very, very valuable.
Mary escorted her client out and waved at Jimmy, who followed her inside. It was evident that the morning wasn't going to be very busy. While he was waiting, Jimmy hadn't seen anyone else come in.
Mary: "Cool, you look just like a cowboy."
Jimmy: "Haha, thanks, it's definitely more comfortable than wearing a suit. Long time no see. You've changed the decor of your office again."
As soon as Jimmy entered, he habitually looked around to the left and right. Maybe it was his police officer instincts, but whenever he arrived somewhere new, he habitually scoped out his surroundings, even though he had already used "Heart Eye" to check out the room in advance.
Today, Mary was dressed in professional attire again, her golden hair flowing down, long eyelashes, brown eyes, and a face that looked very exquisite. Her white suit and trousers complemented her figure in such a way that it was hard to take your eyes off her.
Suddenly, Jimmy realized he might have remembered wrong; he had always thought Doctor Mary was over 40, but looking at her now, she was definitely in her early 30s, in the prime of her life, and full of charm.
Without heading back to her desk, Mary went straight to the sofa area. Jimmy took off his cowboy hat and placed it on the small table next to him, while Mary instinctively turned on the kettle.
Mary: "Yeah, adjusting the office layout as needed can make people feel more relaxed. When did you get back?"
Jimmy: "Just got here yesterday. And I made a funny mistake this morning; I forgot it was Saturday and went straight to the office early."
Mary: "Did you go to the office dressed like that?"
Jimmy: "Yeah, I got used to these clothes these days and forgot to change when I left this morning. By the way, Hughes looked really unhappy."
Mary: "Haha, of course, have you ever seen anyone else dressed like that in the office? Remember, that's an office in Manhattan, the white-collar group."
Jimmy spread his hands: "It's okay, nobody but Hughes saw me, I'll just change into something else next week."
Mary: "How was Dallas?"
The two chatted over tea about Jimmy's experiences in Dallas. Of course, some special matters were off-limits for discussion, but the South is completely different from places like New York, so there was no shortage of topics.
They also talked about some things that had happened in New York, but Jimmy wasn't very knowledgeable about them. He hadn't spent much time in New York and wasn't familiar with many things, but he managed to keep the conversation from becoming awkward, which was pretty impressive.
Jimmy: "Do you have any more clients coming today?"
Mary: "Yeah, in the afternoon. Why?"
Jimmy: "Do you have time tonight?"
Mary: "Oh, I'm meeting Jenna. Would you like to join us?"
Jimmy: "Wouldn't I be disturbing you two?"
Mary: "Of course not. You're welcome to join."
After setting a time, Jimmy said his goodbyes and left. Yeah, he needed to get going quickly; he had overdone it a bit with the tea earlier and was feeling a bit uneasy.
He was going out to dinner with two beautiful women tonight, so naturally, he couldn't still go out dressed in his current cowboy attire. Jimmy went back to sift through his wardrobe and picked out his outfit for the evening. Then he went downstairs and knocked on Jones's door.
Jimmy: "Jones, open up, I'm back."
Jones took a while before coming to open the door. Jimmy walked in; Jones seemed to have gone out last night. Although he looked normal now, the living room was a mess with clothes thrown all over the sofa.
Jones: "Oh, Jimmy, you're finally back. How was Dallas?"
As Jimmy looked around, he said: "Not bad, you know I'm used to the weather in the South."
Jones casually tossed the clothes from the sofa aside, then opened the fridge and threw a can of cola to Jimmy, who had been living together for over a month, knew Jimmy was a fan of cola.
Jimmy opened the can while asking: "Nothing happened while I was gone, right?"
Jones thought for a moment: "Nothing special. Oh, right, your spot's been taken."
Jimmy: "A new guy came in? It's not the season for academy graduations."
Jones: "No, an art consultant. Hold on."
Jones, sipping his cola, walked towards the bedroom. In a moment, he came out with a gun: "Your gun, take good care of it, and take it wherever you go."
Jimmy: "Thanks, that's what I came for. The transfer to Dallas was so sudden, I didn't have time to come back."
Jimmy slipped the gun holster onto his belt, adjusted it, covered it with his upper garment, and sat back down to continue drinking his cola.
After chatting casually and mooching another can of cola, Jimmy went out for lunch. As for Jones, he chose not to go out with Jimmy but to go back and rest a bit more. He didn't say it, but he definitely had had too much to drink the night before.
