North America Gunman Detective

Chapter 314: Tom 283?

Jimmy didn't get involved in the inspection of the car; Cage called someone to handle it, while Jimmy drove to the FBI office.

Jimmy found Harten, "Harten, tell the surveillance team they can stop looking for that car, Sergeant Cage has already found it."

Harten, "Eh? It's been found? Where?"

Jimmy sat in a chair, shaking his head, "In North Little Rock, off a road without surveillance the car crashed into the Arkansas River. No suspects were found in the car, and now it's been hoisted out and parked at the county police headquarters. Cage will arrange for an inspection."

Harten nodded, "So now the only clue is yesterday's gunman."

Jimmy, "How are they doing now?"

Harten, "The surgery is done, there's no longer a threat to life, under observation in the hospital, and they can't be moved to the detention center yet."

Jimmy, "Isn't it possible to question them directly at the hospital?"

Harten actually wasn't in such a hurry, after all, for him, it was just a case, and he didn't have any special feelings for James, "That's possible too, I'll bring someone to the hospital later, you should rest for now."

Jimmy nodded, "I'm going back first."

With the matter at a standstill and clues running dry, Jimmy didn't intend to meddle in their operations. After some thought, he decided to make a trip to the hospital anyway.

Still buying a bouquet of lilies, Jimmy arrived at the hospital. The county police officer guarding James's door had been changed; this one Jimmy hadn't seen before.

"Hi, I'm Jimmy, here to see how James is doing." Jimmy greeted the county officer, who suddenly widened his eyes. Jimmy, Asian, this combination had become the most famous hard-boiled symbol of the county police in recent years. Although he had never met him, he was very familiar with Jimmy's deeds.

"Pleased to meet you, sir, I'm the new recruit Williams, Williams Cherry," Williams shook hands with Jimmy, "The chief has woken up, you've come at just the right time."

Williams turned and knocked on the door, then spoke to the inside, "Mrs. Baldwin, Jimmy is here." He then stepped aside from the door to let Jimmy in.

Jimmy, "Mrs. Baldwin, how is James?" He handed the flowers to Mrs. Baldwin.

Mrs. Baldwin took the flowers and smiled at Jimmy, "He's doing quite well, the doctor says he's recovering nicely, especially for someone of his age."

Jimmy, "That's good to hear." He turned to look at James on the hospital bed; James was awake, and at that moment, he was looking at Jimmy and Mrs. Baldwin.

Jimmy approached the bedside and took James's uninjured left hand, "James, I'm here."

James couldn't speak; his face had been shot through from right to left, and it was now completely bandaged, leaving just a small space for his lips so he could ingest some liquid food during meals to get nutrition. Unable to speak, he blinked in response to Jimmy.

Jimmy, "Cage and I are already on the case, don't worry, we'll catch that trigger-happy bastard, and the FBI Little Rock office is helping too."

James looked at Jimmy and nodded slightly, then shook his head a bit, though Jimmy couldn't tell what he meant to express. There was no way around it since this wasn't the usual way people communicate.

Jimmy, "You rest up, I'm going to head back." Jimmy let go of James's left hand, said goodbye to Mrs. Baldwin, and left the ward. It wasn't that he didn't want to talk more; it was just that Jimmy didn't know Mrs. Baldwin well and didn't know what to say. Besides, James couldn't talk, and it felt too awkward to chatter on by himself.

Jimmy gave a few instructions to Officer Williams at the door, then left the hospital and returned to the hotel. With Cage investigating the car and Harten investigating the gunman, there was nothing for Jimmy to do but rest.

At 11 p.m., just as Jimmy was about to go to sleep, his phone rang. He glanced at the number, another unknown one, and answered the call. A somewhat familiar voice came from the line.

"Jimmy, where are you?"

Jimmy was shocked, "Tom, is that you?"

Tom, "Yeah, where are you?"

Jimmy, "Little Rock, not far from the county police headquarters, at a hotel."

Tom, "Remember that lake? Come meet me."

Tom hung up after speaking, leaving Jimmy somewhat stunned. He had answered reflexively in his shock, and his mind was still racing to catch up. Tom was supposed to be dead; it had been more than a year, so why was he now calling?

Jimmy quickly got ready, loaded his gun, checked the cylinder, then drove away from the hotel towards the lake where he had previously met with Tom.

You could drive directly to the lakeside here. After turning off the engine and without getting out of the car, he surveyed the surroundings. Then someone emerged from behind a nearby tree.

Jimmy drew his revolver, holding it in hand as he stepped out of the car and walked over.

Jimmy, "Tom, it's really you."

Tom, "Doesn't calling you here prove it?"

Jimmy, "Why? You've been 'dead' for over a year, why show up now? Does James know?"

Tom shook his head, "I haven't notified anyone else. I just found out James was shot, so I rushed back. Is James okay now?"

Jimmy, "He was shot three times but pulled through, he's still in the hospital, no longer in a life-threatening condition."

Tom nodded, "Then I'm relieved. Don't tell him, at least not until this is resolved."

Jimmy, "What exactly is going on?"

Tom, "Did you get the box?"

Jimmy nodded, Tom, "Have you made the call to the number up top?"

Jimmy, "No, I'm not sure if it's safe. I haven't dialed the phone number on the card. Plus, I haven't installed the battery in that phone, worried about being located. None of the CIA guys have contacted me in this period, and I haven't reached out to any CIA personnel either."
