North America Gunman Detective

Chapter 283: 262 request for help

Jimmy was resting on a bench when his burner phone suddenly rang. He glanced at it, saw it was Justin, and cut the call, then stood up and walked to an empty lawn. There, he took out the untraceable phone he had bought in the morning and returned the call to Justin.

Jimmy, "Justin, do you have any results?"

Justin, "Yeah, I got some information from Suffolk County Police Department. I think I should inform you first, we'll have to wait for more news."

Jimmy, "What news?"

Justin, "The police found a total of four people in the house, all dead. The forensic doctor determined the cause of death was suffocation leading to cardiac arrest. The time of death is unknown, estimated to be between 7 and 8 yesterday morning. There are no clear signs of injury on the bodies, and it's still unknown what caused all four to suffocate at the same time. The forensic team is conducting drug tests, but there are no results yet."

Jimmy, "Suffocate at the same time? Are you sure? Romany said he had two bodyguards, and bodyguards are usually strong and fit. How could they suffocate without putting up a fight?"

Justin, "That's the preliminary conclusion for now, so the case has been sealed off. We need to wait for the forensic drug tests to determine if it was due to some special substances before making the findings public."

Jimmy, "Understood, keep me posted if there's more news. I've been in their house too, so if there's a problem, I'm in danger too."

Justin, "I know, that's why I informed you as soon as I got the news. That's all for now, I'll continue asking around."

After bidding Justin goodbye and hanging up, Jimmy said he was in danger as a mere formality. If nothing unusual had happened, Romany and the others' deaths were probably related to that "thing" in the basement—in case of a paranormal case, non-human comprehensible methods could explain it.

Thinking for a moment, Jimmy used his regular phone to call the county police chief, James, to ask for Priest Royte's phone number, then dialed Priest Royte directly.

Jimmy, "Good afternoon, Priest Royte, this is former county police Jimmy Yang."

Priest Royte, "Oh, Jimmy, it's been a long time since I've heard from you. How have you been?"

Jimmy, "Priest, I've left the county police and joined the FBI, now based in New York."

Priest Royte, "Congratulations. What's the reason for your call?"

Jimmy, "Priest, I once attended a ceremony at your place, do you remember?"

Priest Royte, "Yes, go on."

Jimmy, "I've come across an unusual case here in New York. It's just a guess, but it might be related to some events. Five people suffocated almost simultaneously, two of them bodyguards."

Priest Royte, "I'm sorry, I'm just a humble priest from Little Stone Town; I don't know much about things in New York. If there's nothing else, then goodbye."

Jimmy, "Wait, wait, Priest, this matter is really unusual, I need your help. For James's sake, please, at least tell me what I should do next?"

Priest Royte fell silent for a moment before responding, "I'll give you a phone number. Contact him."

Priest Royte then provided a phone number and hung up. Fortunately, Jimmy had multiple phones on him. He used another one to jot down the number before making the call.

The call connected, but the person on the other end said nothing, only their breathing could be heard through the handset. "Hello, is this Evan? Priest Royte from Little Stone Town gave me your contact."

Evan, "Go on."

Jimmy, "I'm in New York. There's been a suspected paranormal case, and I hope for your assistance."

Evan, "No time, I'm not in New York. Goodbye."

Jimmy, "Wait, wait, Evan, Priest Royte gave me your contact so I could seek your help. For the Priest's sake, can you at least give me a chance to meet?"

After a few seconds of silence, Evan said, "I'm in D.C. If you can make it today, come find me."

Evan gave an address and hung up; Jimmy also ended the call. It was about 300 kilometers from New York to Washington, D.C., and it was still afternoon, so timing shouldn't be an issue. It was not easy to find someone from the paranormal side. The Priest hadn't been so kind to Jimmy before—if it weren't for James, the Priest would probably have ended the call as soon as he received it from Jimmy.

After checking the time and feeling relieved, since the rental car hadn't been returned yet, Jimmy left Central Park, got into the car, and started driving to Washington, D.C. Thankfully, although he hadn't worn a suit, he at least carried a revolver with six bullets, his wallet, FBI credentials, and could protect himself while driving to D.C. Though on vacation, his FBI badge and credentials were still valid, so there was no problem driving around armed.

At 8 p.m., Jimmy arrived at Rock Creek Park in the northwest of Washington, D.C. The challenge was finding Evan's location. Without the detailed maps available on future smartphones, Jimmy had to ask for directions while driving. Eventually, he found a campsite within the park where many RVs were parked. Although it wasn't a standard RV campground, many seemed to be using it as a temporary residence.

Jimmy parked his car on the side of the road and approached an RV adorned with a depiction of a bald eagle. This RV was a type B trailer, and the front was a black pickup, most likely an F-150. It seemed that Evan had no plans to settle here permanently, so the pickup and trailer were directly connected, parked at the campsite.
