North America Gunman Detective

Chapter 266: 245 Find him!

After hearing James' explanation, Jimmy thought for a moment, "James, are you sure it was the Dixie Family?"

James, "I'm sure, very sure. Although there were no records left at the time, I got the information from my predecessor when I took over as sheriff.

The Dixie Family has huge influence in several southern states' underworld, including desperadoes. For the safety of others, they promised that as long as Reina is allowed to leave safely, they will not attack anyone else. We had no choice but to allow Reina to resign and leave normally. Of course, the deceased officer's family received a lot of compensation, as an apology from the Dixie Family."

Jimmy, "I see, so that's why you let him release the hostages and then leave Little Rock the last time Reina appeared there. As long as he's not within our jurisdiction, there won't be any problems, right?"

James, "Right, I can't joke with the lives of officers. Being a sheriff sometimes requires compromises."

Jimmy, "Got it. I'll continue investigating on my end. Thanks, James."

James, "I'll wait for your update. Goodbye."

Jimmy, "Goodbye, James."

Jimmy hung up the phone and stood in the corner, considering how to talk to Ruiz.

Jimmy returned to his desk, put on his suit, and walked to the door of Ruiz's office. He knocked on the door, "Ruiz, want to go downstairs for a smoke?"

Ruiz looked up at Jimmy, then lowered his head back down to the files, "No thanks, you go ahead." Suddenly, as if he thought of something, he slammed the file on the desk, "Wait, I'll come too."

Jimmy hadn't moved when Ruiz first told him to go alone, but a smile appeared on his face when Ruiz decided to come downstairs with him.

Once downstairs, Jimmy and Ruiz walked to a corner of Federal Square. Both lit a cigarette. Ruiz said, "Go ahead."

Jimmy exhaled a cloud of smoke, "I just called my old boss at the police station to confirm some information. You said this morning that it was Dixie's men who came looking for the Holy Crown Alliance, right?"

Ruiz nodded without a word, and Jimmy continued, "The Reina you showed me earlier, the former county police, he's connected to Dixie."

Ruiz looked at Jimmy, "Continue."

Jimmy, "Reina didn't resign voluntarily. Some incidents occurred, and under pressure, the police department approved Reina's resignation to get him out of Little Rock. The pressure came from the Dixie Family.

From these past events, it can be inferred that Reina is likely a member of the Dixie Family, and possibly not of low rank. This time, the people from the Dixie Family coming to New York probably include him as a key figure."

Ruiz, "What exactly happened back then?"

Jimmy, "There are some internal details, but they don't affect us now. As long as we can confirm that Reina is part of the Dixie Family, we have a target. I think we can shift our surveillance target now."

Ruiz thought for a moment, threw away the cigarette butt, and said to Jimmy, "This is a crucial clue. Let's go, we'll arrange things upstairs."

Ruiz arranged for the surveillance team to adjust their target, investigating the surrounding cameras to confirm Reina's location. As for Jimmy, after providing the clue, he was of no further use, and his task was to continue reviewing information.

Well, leaving Peter, and arriving at Ruiz's, his situation hadn't changed at all, still endlessly reviewing files.

"Jimmy, let's go." Ruiz suddenly left the office, called out to Jimmy, and headed straight for the elevator without waiting for him.

Jimmy was a bit bewildered by the sudden attack, but he quickly grabbed his coat and ran towards the elevator.

Ruiz was in such a hurry, there must have been a major incident. He didn't even wait for the people in the office and went straight to the elevator, indicating that someone very important must have been involved.

Luckily, the elevator took a moment, giving Jimmy enough time to catch up with Ruiz. In the elevator, Jimmy didn't ask any questions, waiting instead for Ruiz to start driving away from the parking lot before he spoke up.

Ruiz, "There's been an incident. A Russian mafia den in Brooklyn was raided, probably happened last night, and it was only discovered today at noon. The son of their boss is dead."

Jimmy, "Which gang?"

Ruiz, "Crow Gang, not many members, mainly involved in underground casinos and smuggling. The trouble is they are a branch of the Russian native gang War Axe, although their ties aren't as strong anymore, there's still some connection."

Jimmy, "Russian War Axe? Are they well-known?"

Ruiz, "Yes, after the dissolution of the Soviet Union, many gangs emerged in Russia, and War Axe was one of the major gangs that stood out. Over the following years, they expanded into Europe and America. These guys are daring and fight at the drop of a hat, often completely unreasonable."

Jimmy, "So, this is clearly gang warfare or a vendetta, right? What does it have to do with us?"

Ruiz, "We need to control the situation. Whenever something major like this happens, it always leads to chaos. Gangs can't be completely eradicated, but we must control them to prevent serious incidents that could endanger ordinary people."

Jimmy learned something new. Back in Little Rock, gang activities were minor skirmishes compared to the serious situation here in New York, and it seemed that the FBI wasn't as forceful here. They appeared to be content as long as the gangs didn't affect ordinary people.

At the scene, Jimmy noticed it wasn't just the FBI; several NYPD officers were also there, setting up police lines and maintaining order. FBI agents were inside the building collecting evidence. Ruiz led Jimmy into the building, where the bodies were still present, and the crime scene investigation was ongoing.

Ruiz approached a forensic investigator, "Any findings?"

"Six deaths, two on the first floor, four on the third floor, and we only found two bullet shells on the first floor. We are still inspecting the third floor and haven't found any shells yet. What's unusual is none of the people upstairs had cellphones on them, not sure if someone took them or if they deliberately didn't carry any."

The forensic investigator picked up a sealed bag containing two bullet shells, "Parabellum 9mm bullet shells, need to send these back to the lab to check for fingerprints."

Ruiz, "Is there any surveillance here? Have you checked both inside and outside the house?"

Forensic investigator, "No, we've already checked."

Ruiz, "Alright, continue. Jimmy, let's go upstairs."

On the third floor, Ruiz examined each body. Finally, he found a half-dressed man on the bedroom bed. He was wearing pants which seemed to have been put on hurriedly; the belt wasn't even tightened. A handgun lay next to him, but there were no shells around, suggesting he had been killed before he could fire.
