Chapter 645: Invitations_2

Cage shook his head: "It's better to keep him close, I need to watch over him, stop him from associating with those people. Let's talk after he works for a few years if he really wants a change of place."

Jimmy: "Contact me if you need it, you know I have some connections in some places now."

Cage: "No need for now."

After chatting with them for a while, Cage and Noah left. They still had to continue patrolling. Although both of them were supervisors, the number of county police was still not as many as city police, so they naturally needed to be scheduled for some patrol time, but it wouldn't be like before where most of their work time was spent on the road.

Noah taught Jimmy the duties of being a police officer and trained him in skills like PIT. Cage guided Jimmy through the most crucial part of the county police internship. The fact that Jimmy could establish himself in the county police back then was definitely due to the contributions of both of them.

After chatting with James for a while, Jimmy got up to say goodbye. Since there were quite a few invitations to deliver, James understood and did not keep him overnight.

Jimmy left James' house, passed by Justin's bar, and delivered the invitation in person. It was too eye-catching for Justin to be the best man, but attending the wedding as a friend was no problem.

Next up was Orlando, Florida. Tom had changed his identity, and his name is now Thomas Roberts. He bought a farm here as his retirement home, and life was going quite well. At least, when they met last time, Tom seemed still in good spirits.

Jimmy first found a hotel in Orlando to rest for a night. He set out for Tom's Roberts Farm early the next morning. Finally, he got to see the small farm Tom had been constantly thinking about. In fact, the farm wasn't big, with different crops and vegetables planted in sections. It looked vibrant and was indeed a good place for self-cultivation and relaxation.

Seeing Tom from afar, Jimmy quickened his pace and walked over, placing his suitcase aside and reaching out to hug Tom: "Long time no see, Tom."

Tom patted Jimmy's back, and after they separated, Tom said: "You came quickly, have you seen James? Come on in."

Jimmy nodded, reached for his suitcase, and followed Tom towards the farmhouse: "I just came over from Little Rock."

Inside the house, Jimmy noticed that it seemed a bit too simple. There were only basic sofas, a coffee table, and a few shelves with some books, plates, and glasses on them. The only entertainment item was a TV series and a radio on the coffee table. It didn't look like a place for permanent residence, but rather like a temporary living environment.

After using Heart Eye to observe, Jimmy confirmed that this was indeed Tom's residence, because he found a weapon rack in a nearby small room, with many guns hanging on it. There was also a basement, enough weapons stored there to fight a small war based on their outlines.

Jimmy: "Have you been living here all along? Why don't you prepare more daily necessities at home?"

Tom: "Of course, I've been living here. The workers stay in the house next door, it's just me here, and this is enough."

Jimmy: "Living alone, that's not much fun. Why not find someone to keep you company?"

Tom was at a loss for words, "You kid, it's not your place to arrange my affairs. Where's the stuff?"

Jimmy took out an invitation from his suitcase, along with a bottle of gin he had brought: "Here's a gift for you, you can have a sip when you have nothing to do."

Tom took the invitation, glanced at it, "Alright, the thing is delivered, you can leave now."

This time, Jimmy was speechless. That remark shouldn't have been said... "Come on, I flew thousands of miles to be driven away by you, that's too embarrassing. Show me around the farm? This is my first time seeing such a farm."

Tom only said that casually. Jimmy seemed different ever since getting to New York, appearing slicker now. He placed the invitation on the coffee table, "Alright, let's go out for a walk."

Wandering around the farm was naturally a leisurely activity, and Jimmy and Tom talked about some daily life matters. Tom was completely retired now, no longer needing to be so cautious all the time, so he didn't mind talking about everyday life.

After wandering through half the farm, they arrived at the vegetable area, picked some vegetables to take back. Today, Tom was going to make lunch himself, and of course, the first choice was barbecue. However, the meat wasn't from the farm, it was purchased outside. This was a farm, not a ranch. Vegetables were no problem, but there was no meat here.

While Tom was busy in front of the grill, Jimmy suddenly asked, "Tom, do you think I should send an invitation to Mrs. Walz?"

Tom's hand didn't stop moving, but he didn't answer immediately. After a while, he said, "Send one, Mrs. Walz hasn't attended any events for a long time, she's been staying in that little house for all these years."

Tom placed the marinated ribs on the grill, washed his hands at the nearby faucet, and sat next to Jimmy, picking up a bottle of beer and taking a sip, "But don't expect her to attend the wedding herself. She'd probably have Sam go in her place."

Jimmy: "Hmm, I'm also worried that delivering the invitation directly might be too abrupt. If you think it's okay, I'll go after I leave here."

Tom drank his beer and looked at the grill, "In that case, I'll prepare later, and you can help bring something to the teacher."

Jimmy: "No problem. By the way, about those DIA people we encountered last time..."

Tom: "You decide for yourself, or you can ask for Mrs. Walz's opinion, if you really want to maintain that group's relationships."

Jimmy: "Their relationships don't really mean much to me, I'm just worried that not sending an invitation might make them suspicious of me."

Tom: "They won't. I told you before; your identity is hidden. You didn't even know them before, just met them once at Mrs. Walz's, so whether you send it or not doesn't matter, it makes no difference."

Jimmy: "Well, that's settled then. When I get there, I'll ask Mrs. Walz. By the way, since you've been here so long, have you been in touch with old friends, James excluded?"

Tom shook his head: "I'm already considered dead, it's better not to contact any old acquaintances, for everyone's sake, and to prevent anyone from overthinking. Life is pretty good now, staying busy on the farm, much better than being on the run. Plus, you can meet many new people here, starting anew isn't bad either."

Tom got up to tend the grill, while Jimmy watched him, even when talking about such topics, wearing a light smile on his face, seeming to have completely let go of past affairs. He seemed in quite a good mood, so let it be.

Not lingering too long with Tom, in the afternoon, Tom drove Jimmy to Orlando Airport. Jimmy took off again, this time to Dallas. Lambert's invitation definitely needed to be delivered. Though Lambert mentioned he might not be able to come, depending on future arrangements.

But Jimmy's goal was already achieved. Whether Lambert attends or not, his formalities needed to be observed. Lambert had helped Jimmy several times back then, so an invitation was a must.

Next up was flying to Washington, D.C., then heading to Mrs. Walz's woodland retreat in Virginia. Besides his own luggage, he carried a backpack with a gift Tom had prepared for Mrs. Walz.

Jimmy looked at the gift Tom prepared and didn't know what to say. Chocolate, waffles, coconut sugar, these things seem available everywhere, bringing a bunch of snacks and candies for Mrs. Walz felt somewhat awkward, as if he wasn't going to see an elderly lady but bringing gifts for her grandchildren.
