Chapter 614: Wrapping Up (Part 2)

Jimmy helped the two emergency doctors on the ambulance to transfer Father Rodney and Father Cooper onto the ambulance. Father Rivera opened the door of the church and asked Jimmy to wait for them a moment, then followed behind the ambulance to the hospital.

Sitting in the lounge, Jimmy took out a box of bullets and replenished the spare rounds for his revolver and the underarm holster, and just sat there waiting for them to return. An hour later, Father Rivera returned to the church alone.

Jimmy stood up: "Father Rivera."

Rivera: "Jimmy, right, Rodney told me. Thank you."

Jimmy: "You're welcome. How are Rodney and the others doing?"

Rivera: "Nothing too serious, don't worry."

Jimmy: "I want to ask, how will you handle that person's body?"

Rivera shook his head: "I understand what you're worried about, don't worry, we'll handle it."

Jimmy: "Aren't you calling the police?"

Rivera shook his head, not continuing the topic: "Please rest here for a moment, I'll go change my clothes."

Rivera wasn't familiar with Jimmy at all, they didn't have much to say. Jimmy could only wait, and it wasn't until the evening that Father Rodney had Rivera drive him back.

Rodney and Rivera came to the lounge together. He said to Rivera, "Thank you, Rivera, let me talk to Jimmy for a bit."

Rivera: "Okay, I'll arrange for someone to bring food over."

Rodney nodded, and Rivera turned and left the lounge.

Rodney's right upper arm was broken, now fully casted, with the arm in a sling around his neck. He smiled at Jimmy and said, "Did you get anxious waiting?"

Jimmy also smiled and said, "Not bad, how's your arm?"

Rodney glanced at his right arm: "Broken, might take about two months to heal, there'll be more trouble later."

Jimmy: "That's not bad, what about the other guy? That Cooper."

Rodney: "He's lucky, with his left leg fractured and three ribs broken, but luckily no internal organs were injured, so he'll take longer to recover than I will."

Jimmy: "We hadn't finished talking earlier, are the other two priests from New York?"

Rodney: "No, Rivera is the priest of this church here, Cooper is from Albany, he was the one tracking Torres before."

Jimmy: "You mentioned before that you lost quite a few people, what happened?"

Rodney sighed: "A deacon was lost over in New Haven, Connecticut, then when we followed up to investigate, another priest got injured, so that's how it came to us to handle."

Jimmy: "Why didn't you call the police? He's a high-risk killer, just letting him run from New Haven to here, we don't know anything."

Rodney: "No, ordinary people encountering him would be too dangerous, if we called the police, the impact could be bigger. If the police were chasing him everywhere, it might provoke him further, making indiscriminate injuries uncontrollable."

Jimmy listened to Rodney's reasoning, feeling there was a major flaw in his argument: "Does this happen often?"

Rodney shook his head: "No, this is the most difficult incident we've encountered recently. Normally, those possessed by an evil spirit mostly exhibit mental issues, and usually linger in their own territory, rarely does one like Torres run from one state to another.

I suspect this Torres is very special, we'll need to investigate his hometown to find out what exactly possessed him to give him such extensive capabilities. Such matters required official reporting, so others dealing with similar cases can be prepared.

This incident is very troublesome, with quickly growing strength over a short period, something never heard of before. Based on reports from priests who fought him, theoretically, two people were enough to hold him down, maybe even capture him. But this time, despite us three attacking, one of us got injured right off the bat."

Jimmy: "Are cases like his, where bullets can't penetrate, common?"

Rodney: "Not much, in previous events, at most they ignored pain, but bullets could still injure their physical form. Rarely do gunshots have no effect at all. By the way, how did you wound him later? When we left, I noticed he had many bullet holes on his torso, but none penetrated."

Jimmy took out a .44 Magnum Bullet, "Initially, I used 9mm Parabellum Bullets, but later I switched to these Magnum Bullets, larger caliber, more gunpowder, higher damage. But they aren't as deadly as your short sword; Father Rivera only needed to stab him once, and he died."

Jimmy didn't display his gun. The 1875 in Jimmy's Heart Eye indeed showed no special abilities, but clearly had demon-breaking properties, shown in previous cases. If Rodney and the others knew, who knows what might happen, so for now, attributing it to these extra-long bullet casing Magnum Bullets should suffice.

Jimmy: "So, previously you used handguns but never tried using rifles, right? If you had rifles, maybe he would have been taken down already."

Rodney: "No, in such cases, we trust in cold weapons more. They've long been proven to be the most effective demon extermination weapons, just this time was unexpected. His fists completely blocked our short swords, so after returning, communication to enhance our weapons' capabilities is needed."

Jimmy: "Only his hands can block, right? What about the rest of his body?"

Rodney: "While the other parts are also very strong, they can be cut and wounded. This time we were caught off guard by pure chance."

Jimmy: "Why do you think he's so powerful...? And why did his hands start the reinforcement?"

Rodney: "I'm not sure about that, but now there's no need to understand it anymore."

Jimmy: "Alright, last question, how will you deal with his body?"

Rodney: "The Church will arrange for someone to handle it, rest assured, no need to worry."

Jimmy: "Okay, when are you going back to New York?"

Rodney: "We'll need a few more days here, dealing with follow-ups and investigating his previous traces to check if anything was missed."

Jimmy nodded, then spoke after some thought: "Actually, I called you today hoping you could arrange for someone to help investigate a case. In neighboring Sullivan County, there was a murder case where five people were killed in a standalone house, two were decapitated. Critically, based on reconstructing the scene, we found the five deceased died almost simultaneously, which is impossible for any ordinary person to achieve."

Rodney: "You suspect it might be a supernatural event?"

Jimmy nodded: "In my experience handling cases, theoretically, a single person can't kill five in such a short time, especially with two being decapitated. Critically, those sitting on the sofa didn't have time to flee, which is quite absurd. The judgment that they were killed at the same time is based on the positional relationship of the five people."

Rodney: "If you really think there's a problem, I can ask Rivera if he's available to go with you and check."

Jimmy: "Um, will he... be okay?"

Rodney: "Of course, if not for special reasons, he wouldn't be staying at such a small church; he's at least someone ranked in the diocese."

Jimmy nodded: "Then please check for me; if that case proves abnormal, I'll also need to coordinate with the agent handling the investigation. Cases involving supernatural elements can't be managed by just anyone, and some things have to remain confidential."

Rodney: "Yes, if it's confirmed there's an issue, we will take over."
