Jimmy and his team actually never left Brooklyn. They turned around at the intersection toward a new target. There's a big difference in public security between Brownsville, Brooklyn and areas closer to Manhattan. It's daytime now, and many vagrants are still resting. Coming here at night is the real challenge.
Actually, most areas in New York have decent security, especially during the day. You can generally engage in tourism or activities across various areas with some guarantee of safety. But at night, it's different. The so-called city that never sleeps, New York City, becomes completely different at night in many places.
Brownsville is one such place. If Jimmy were to walk around here at night, he might very well eliminate several people without a problem.
When they arrived at the street where the target had disappeared, Jimmy glanced at the surveillance on the traffic lights at the intersection. Alright, it was clear why there was no surveillance footage; the cameras were all broken. It looked like they were deliberately vandalized, which meant this area was outside the NYPD's remote surveillance coverage.
They first drove around the streets and found that several intersections had the same issue. It was likely orchestrated by gang members here, making their activities easier.
Don't expect the broken surveillance to be fixed soon. In fact, broken is broken, and you have to wait for them to schedule repairs or replacements, which would take at least until the next budget year, or it might simply be forgotten here.
While driving around, Jimmy noticed an apartment surrounded by police tape, with various number labels on the ground. Judging from the color, this must have been a shooting and murder scene, and quite a number of bullets were fired.
Thinking it over, Jimmy parked the car to the side as three people approached. A police officer standing outside the tape raised a hand to stop them. "FBI agent Jimmy Yang, what case happened here?"
Jimmy flashed his badge, and the officer glanced at it before saying, "A gang shooting incident; it happened around 9 PM last night, both sides clashed, resulting in two deaths and three injuries."
Jimmy nodded; this kind of thing was quite common. He casually asked, "Do you know who did it?", then glanced at the scene inside.
The police officer said, "I don't know. If you want to find out, you might need to contact the bureau."
Jimmy gestured to Julia, "Julia, give me the car info."
Julia handed Jimmy the surveillance photo of the car with fake plates, "Have you seen this silver-white Toyota around here? We're looking for this car; it disappeared in this area."
The officer glanced and shook his head, "I haven't noticed it."
Jimmy said, "Thank you."
Jimmy turned to Mark and Julia, saying, "You two pair up and explore this neighborhood. Be careful, and call me if you find anything."
Mark nodded, and he and Julia turned to leave. Jimmy got back in the car, tuned the car radio to the NYPD dispatch center's frequency, and after identifying himself, asked them to have Brooklyn patrol officers keep an eye out for the license plate number he was interested in.
He initially intended to investigate on his own, but seeing the police reminded him to make use of the street patrol officers for assistance. Fortunately, it wasn't too late.
Leaving the radio on, Jimmy activated the hidden police lights, driving slowly along the road while paying attention to the cars by the roadside and those overtaking him.
The reason he's using hidden police lights is because driving this slowly affects traffic. If he doesn't want to get into trouble, it's more convenient this way. Other cars, seeing his situation, will pass by him and won't block him by following too closely.
The phone rang, and Jimmy picked it up, "We found him, Jimmy, two blocks away."
Julia was panting and shouting loudly, clearly the phone wasn't close to her ear as her voice was distant. Jimmy immediately flicked the siren switch and sped off, his sudden move obviously impacting the normal flow of traffic. The cars in front barely noticed the police car overtaking them suddenly speed up and, dodging left or right, almost collided.
Jimmy was too preoccupied to worry about these things. After slightly reducing speed at the intersection, he immediately turned the corner. "Bang bang..." Even with the siren blaring, Jimmy still heard nearby gunshots—it was happening.
Jimmy anxiously watched the roadside, also using his "Heart Eye," inspecting the nearby buildings for any anomalies. The gunshots had stopped, and he couldn't spot where people might be.
The call hadn't disconnected yet, and Jimmy hadn't reached Julia's side when her voice came through the phone, "Jimmy, we lost him."
Jimmy said, "I'm on my way."
After a while, Jimmy finally spotted Julia and Mark, who were walking out of a narrow alley. Jimmy parked, turned off the siren while leaving the lights on, "Julia, give me the details."
Julia and Mark came beside Jimmy, "We found a car of the same model here, which is the one in front, but it didn't have a license plate.
While observing inside the car, a person came out of this building and thought we were going to steal the car. As Mark identified himself, he immediately turned to escape into the alley.
Sorry, we couldn't catch up with him. He turned around and shot at us in the alley. We returned fire, but the delay allowed him to escape, and we haven't located him."
Jimmy said, "Where did he escape from?"
