RISE OF THE MARTIAL GOD

Chapter 89: CAPTURED ON ARRIVAL

The moment Anthony stepped into the space vortex, it sucked him in, spinning him around like a rag doll. His stomach immediately churned, making him nauseous. The vortex suddenly sped up, and Anthony felt his clothes being torn by the malicious wind blades. He suddenly felt as if shards of meteorites were among the things swirling around in the energy vortex.

"This is terrifying. Did I get sucked into the wrong place? Even the durable clothes made of special materials, and personally prepared by Lan Xuanyu couldn't stand the wind blades in the vortex. What's going on?" Anthony muttered, as he felt a heavy weight collide against his chest.

He felt a warm liquid shoot out of his throat before he could control it. He forced his eyes to open a little bit, just enough to get a peek of what happened. The particles of blood he vomited didn't fall, they kept floating till the vortex churned him past that area.

The feeling of something heavy falling against him multiplied, and Anthony couldn't help but worry about his life.

"No, this won't do. At this rate, my bones will be shattered before I reach my destination. Physique activation."

The moment he finished, a golden light burst inside his body, making his insides feel comfortable, and he felt the internal wounds ease up. His skin and muscles also toughened up, making the wind blades unable to have their ways.

"Huh. Thank goodness." Anthony whispered and sighed in relief.

However, before he could get over his joy, he immediately encountered another challenge. The vortex was sucking in his cultivation energy (soul power). The immense cultivation energy stored in his dantian after cultivating all night, and converting energy from the last food he ate was leaving his body at an alarming rate, making his heart filled with distress.

The energy continued to drain away at a rapid rate, making him frightened. If all his stored soul power gets sucked out. How will he be able to defend himself if he encounters a problem when his dantian was devoid of his deep trove of soul power?

"No, this can't be. If this continues, my cultivation might drop or even get crippled, which is equivalent to dying twice. What should I do?"

An idea occurred to him and he immediately tried to deactivate his physique. However, it couldn't be deactivated, no matter how he tried. Soon, the energy Lan Xuanyu sealed in his body began to seep out, terrifying Anthony.

"This can't be. That seal was placed by Lan Xuanyu, a person standing at the peak of the martial arts world. Yet this spatial turbulence was able to go through it. No, this won't do. If the seal comes off, the energy will flood my meridians, making everything spiral out of control, which might lead to qi deviation. I have to stop the energy from seeping out at all costs. I need to go all out. If the seal comes off, that will be death in itself. It's better to die trying than to die because you didn't do anything."

Anthony began to chant complicated sealing techniques to tighten the seal, making the vortex's intensity increase, as if it was hell bent on unsealing it. The vortex was a force of nature, making it hard to guard against. Worse, it seemed to have a mind of its own.

After a while, Anthony managed to cut off the physique, and a light from the jade bracelet fell on his chest, tightening the seal once again. He sighed in relief, only to realize that he felt extremely weak with all his soul power and physique power gone.

"The vortex seems to be decelerating steadily, and the malignant energy attacking me has also disappeared. Have I arrived?" Anthony muttered and opened his eyes.

At once, his heart skipped a beat. The vortex had totally stopped. In fact, it was nowhere to be found. And rather, he found himself floating in a boundless dark space. The portal stopped him halfway in an unknown location in space!

His stomach was still churning, making him nauseous. He tried to move, but discovered that he was unable to move even his fingers. There was a low buzzing sound in his ears which gave him a headache.

"Wait. Am I drifting in the middle of space? Why did the machine suddenly stop, making the vortex dissipate? What am I going to do if I am unable to move? At this rate, I will be perpetually stuck here while condoning the harsh elements and spatial beasts. If I am unable to move after a while, I will remain unable to defend myself, becoming a sitting duck. This won't do." Anthony muttered, trying his best to break out of the force field immobilizing him.

However, no matter his best efforts, he felt like one running on a treadmill, unable to make even one little bit of progress. Space and time suddenly warped before him, returning him to the night when Priscilla poisoned and betrayed him. Worse, he saw himself with her in another time frame, wearing battle armor, and the poisoning incident repeated, giving enemies a chance to ambush him. He quickly tried to fight the vision which seemed half like an illusion, and half like a memory, trying to wake himself up to no avail.

Despite being armed with the knowledge of what will happen later, he was unable to change a thing just watching helplessly as he relived the painful memories once again.

He couldn't do anything to stop it and kept returning to his most painful moments, suffering the pains once again. Not just the betrayal from Priscilla, every single painful memory he would rather forget kept returning to him.

Anthony was horrified in the least, realizing he couldn't wake up from his trance despite knowing it was just an illusion.

After a long time, he finally screamed out in anger but the zero gravity space muffled out his voice.

As he struggled, light from his jade pendant around his waist covered him and the spirit stone in his hands shattered and turned to dust which made the energy in the spirit stone get absorbed into his body.

The moment he felt the energy return, Anthony sighed in relief only to hear the slight buzz again. Anthony immediately smiled.

"It seems that the instructions from the stone slab were indeed correct and meant for such a situation. The reason for adding multiple sets of spirits stones is that when one set burns completely, another continues to power the portal after a while." He whispered, feeling relieved.

Another vortex appeared at a corner, but he immediately felt a deep instinct of not approaching the vortex at all costs. He forced himself to stay away from the vortex, pushing himself away, not minding the zero gravity. He felt an inexplicable sense of discomfort from the second vortex, which made him sure that it was hiding something dangerous and must be avoided at all costs. The jade vibrated again and pushed him away from the attraction field, making him sigh in relief.

"Lan Xuanyu, you busy body. This was the reason you gave me the jade right. You're still trying to protect me even in the space portal." Anthony muttered, smiling despite the wind blades slashing his body.

He suddenly noticed that the soul sucking bell was absorbing the space laws around him, making him more surprised. His eyes immediately turned golden and he began to see billions of vigorous and pure space laws floating around in the vortex. This was indeed the best place to cultivate space laws. Without hesitation, he ignored his current situation and quickly began to absorb the space laws. To his pleasant surprise, he realized that there was a peculiar type of energy in space, albeit hard to refine. But as long as he was able to refine it, it got absorbed into his body, replacing the energy he lost. He immediately shut his eyes and began to cultivate, ignoring the multiple wind blades slashing him.

Anthony suddenly burst out from a portal and landed on grass, his body covered with blood. The moment his body touched the ground, he lost consciousness, and everywhere went dark before him. He looked like a rag doll, damaged beyond repair, and one couldn't help but wonder what he went through during the last phase of his journey. Despite being unconscious, his face was contorted, showing the deep pain and discomfort he was feeling. His clothes had almost turned to rags. Luckily, his artefacts like the soul sucking bell, the red tasselled jade pendant, and space ring were still on his fingers. He managed to safeguard them despite being in a turbulent situation, showing his will power and carefulness.

After a day, Anthony's injuries began to heal on with intermittent help from the jade which occasionally released energy to his body to help his healing. By the time it was thirty hours after his arrival, his lips began to regain color, and by the evening of the next day, he woke up.

He turned around and tried to wipe off the sticky substance on his face, only to realize he couldn't move his hands at all. His eyes snapped open and he forced himself to sit up. Anthony immediately gasped in horror. He was in chains, someone had captured him the moment he arrived.
