Kaiser pretended to be confused for a while, then an expression of bewilderment flitted across his face, then doubt. He rubbed his ears for a while and looked up at his grandfather.
"It must be because I have not eaten since morning. That's why I'm hearing ridiculous things. I think it's better for me to eat before further discussion, so that I can hear you clearly." He whispered with a sigh.
He looked at the grand elder for a while with his jaws on his palms and sighed.
"From your expression, it seems that what I thought I heard could be true. Could you say it again?"
"Kaiser Meyer! Don't pretend to be ignorant here or stall for time. Hand over the formula to the drugs. And maybe, we can convince the rest of the dragon clan to forgive you." An elder shouted, his narrow eyes were nearly the shape of two horizontal slits, shining with greed. He was practically drooling. And his fat neck which had folds of fat were dripping sweat despite the air conditioner in the conference room.
"It seems my ear truly didn't deceive me. You guys were thick faced enough to give me such a condition." He whispered, shaking his head.
"This is something you should not even hesitate about. That's the only way the dragon clan would forgive you." Howard, Brent's father quickly chipped in persuasively, striking while the iron was still hot.
The smile on Kaiser's face immediately disappeared.
"Forgive me? For what exactly? What exactly did I do that I needed the magnanimous dragon clan to forgive me? Please tell me. Let me guess, my crime is having too much in the midst of greedy cows. Or is it doing things that your useless sons couldn't do? Has anyone here ever asked Leo or Brent for their patents? But when it came from the branch no one wants to rise, I suddenly needed to be forgiven. Wow. Each day, the elders council opens my eyes to new things. I keep realizing the numerous levels of shamelessness thanks to you all. Wow. Forgive me? What if I don't want to be forgiven?"
His grandfather sighed and gritted his teeth.
"Kaiser, one shouldn't be too greedy. Sometimes, it's better to let go and consider the bigger picture. Having a treasure you can't protect isn't necessarily a blessing. It will only bring you danger and certain ruin. But with the dragon clan's protection and help, you won't need to suffer. So many people are eyeing you, just like a fat lamb. But if the drug is being jointly produced by the dragon clan, no one would dare to have thoughts about it." His voice was persuasive, and he kept making grand gestures with his hands to emphasize his points.
Kaiser grinned, and then chuckled. Without warning, he began to laugh loudly.
His reaction confused the rest of the dragon clan elders who watched him with a frown.
"Ah! Hahahaha. Indeed, so many people are eyeing me, deceiving themselves that I'm a fat lamb. Just like the ones before me who want to reap where they did not sow. One shouldn't be too greedy? Shouldn't that sentence be directed at you all? Lots of things kept going wrong in the dragon clan due to your deep greed and formation of factions. There's no more healthy competition, just jealousy, greed and underhanded tricks. Instead of using this time to target me, why don't you all invest it into some profitable ventures? It seems the members of the elders council have a lot of time on their hands." Kaiser whispered, still smiling in disdain.
The grand elder sighed.
"I understand that this might be a little bit difficult for you to do. But consider the bigger picture. You…"
"The bigger picture is exactly what I'm considering. That's why I'm still here listening to your arrant nonsense! You want me to hand over my brother's formulas? Dream on!" Kaiser roared, hitting his hand against the table. The table reinforced with spiritual treasures immediately splintered. But no one paid the table any attention. They were more interested in Kaiser.
"Kaiser, listen here…" His grandfather began in an authoritative voice.
Kaiser's cold gaze fell on him and he immediately snarled at the audacious grand elder
"Don't call my name using such a tone. You're not worthy. Having a treasure I can't protect will bring me danger? Good! I'm waiting to see exactly what those dangers are."
"Kaiser, calm down. This is not the time to be hot headed." Howard, Brent's father began to say.
Kaiser smiled broadly and gestured to him with open arms.
"And here comes the chief instigator. The ever dutiful father determined to clear off obstacles for his son. How amazing thou art. But unfortunately, you messed with the wrong person." He whispered, smirking coldly.
"Kaiser, I'm afraid you do not have an option. Everything that you think you have was given by the dragon clan. And in retrospect, this formula also belongs to the dragon clan. You're only returning it to the rightful owners." One of the elders said firmly, getting to his feet. He had been silent all along, watching as things unfolded.
Kaiser chuckled.
"Everything I own belong to the dragon clan? If everything I own belongs to the dragon clan, how about the ones my brother has? The formulas belong to him, when did it become your turn to lust after them? And let me make this clear, nothing I own belongs to the dragon clan. The companies my father set up were all through his own efforts. You all also insisted he leaves without nothing. As for the people managing the dragon clan's resources, using it for personal expenses. I'm sure you know who they are. As for me, I gave my life in dangerous adventures, fought as a mercenary and even went grave robbing to get resources to set up my own company at just thirteen years old. Everything I have, everything I own, are products of my years of painstaking effort and shedding of my blood and flesh. How dare you say such a ridiculous thing to me?" He roared, his eyes turning red like that of a beast. After a second, it quickly reverted back to its original form.
"Why did you think you could establish connections easily? The dragon clan name and efforts paved the way for you. Don't be ungrateful." The grand elder whispered persuasively.
Kaiser smiled and looked at them.
"Geo life pharmaceuticals is a newly registered company without any affiliations to the dragon clan. As for the drugs you mentioned, do you need me to remind you of the identity of the researcher who produced it?"
Everyone went silent at this point, making Kaiser smile.
"Yes, it was that same Anthony, my brother whom you all called a waste incapable of leading the dragon clan to glory. Even after he tamed the twin dragon daggers which belonged to the martial god, you all still didn't welcome him. Rather it made you all more anxious to the point you were willing to bomb my factory just to shut him in the perilous lands. If what I have belongs to the dragon clan, what about him?"
Kaiser didn't want them to continue.
"From the moment he was born he was abandoned and left to fend for himself as a four weeks old baby. He became wealthy through his own efforts. The drugs he developed were also through his meticulous efforts. Do you know? When my brother came back, he had lots of unfinished research works that were at the edge of success. Just a little more time and we would have five more miraculous drugs. But what did you guys do? You decided that he was a threat that couldn't be allowed to sprout and decided to uproot him early on. If he had remained here and finished the research, won't there be enough to go round for everyone? With him at the helm of affairs, would the dragon clan lack splendor? He who chased himself out of the boat should not say there's no space for him. Since you guys think killing him was the best and you won't have anything to do with him, then make sure you stand by your decisions. As for the greeting gifts he gave me before you all did your worst, I will hold onto them tightly. I won't let anyone from the dragon clan reap the benefits of my brother's hard work. If you want, find your own formulas and produce your own drugs." He said and turned to leave.
"What's with your attitude? Your father is the patriarch of the dragon clan. Your grandfather, the grand elder. Won't you even give them face? Where's your filial piety? Bringing glory to the dragon clan, isn't your father the one to benefit the most? Even if you don't respect us. You should show respect to the one who sired you." Howard shouted, making him stop.
Kaiser turned and smirked coldly at them.
"Even if my father appears here and decides to stand against my will. I will kill him without hesitation. Don't bother trying to trap me with familial ties. This heart is colder than the coldest ice in the deepest hail mountains. I am that demon everyone was talking about. Nothing can shake my will. And if you block me, you die." He whispered in a strange glacial voice that seemed to come from the pits of hell, sending shivers of terror down their spines.
