Tokyo: Rabbit Officer and Her Evil Partner

Chapter 436: Rumor Deduction (Part 2)

Kujo Yua's voice became clearer, and the background noise disappeared. She must have changed rooms, and her tone became much more serious: "You're half right."

Even getting half right was enough for Fushimi Roku. He was completely making things up, just to highlight how Kujo Yua was being unreasonable and targeting him. His goal was to call out injustice, whether it existed or not, as a negotiation tactic.

Fushimi Roku had always investigated like this, speculating in the darkest and most likely directions. Minamoto Tamako still insisted that this didn't count as deduction.

At this point, he casually asked:

"Which half?"

Kujo Yua said: "Ah Guang is indeed suspicious, but whether or not he's the killer isn't clear yet; Dad might not intend to cover for him either, since there's more than one son in the family. If necessary, Dad might 'clean house.'

Fushimi Roku wiggled his butt, feeling his legs go numb from the cold seat: "So what's the real situation, your family hasn't figured it out yet either?"

"It's complicated." Kujo Yua said grimly, but her tone was very relaxed, showing that she wasn't really bothered: "Otherwise, Dad wouldn't have entrusted you with this matter."

"Well, doesn't this count as overtime for me?" Fushimi Roku's focus was different from hers.

"It does." Kujo Yua had to admit.

"Is there overtime pay?" Fushimi Roku asked again.

"No," Kujo Yua said, unable to bear it: "Whoever gave you the task, go ask them for money."

Fushimi Roku had developed a special 'Evil Chant' against Kujo Yua, and he shouted passionately: "You tricked me into coming back! Used me as a pawn! I've bled for the Police Department, I've fought against terrorism! Just when I was finally recovering on vacation, you still have me cleaning up your family's mess! Kujo Yua, don't push it too far!"

Kujo Yua paused for a moment, then retorted: "What do you want then?"

Fushimi Roku continued shouting, oblivious to the strange stares from the other passengers on the train: "I've bled for the Police Department, I've fought against terrorism! I've bled for the Police Department, I've fought against terrorism!"

There was the sound of Kujo Yua taking a deep breath in the receiver, presumably suppressing her anger: "If you continue, I'll hang up."

Fushimi Roku continued his chant: "Is this how you treat heroes? Tomorrow, I'll call Tokyo News and say the newly appointed Director of Police is eliminating dissidents, envious of talents, forming cliques..."

Kujo Yua sensed he might actually do it, so she softened her tone: "I'll grant you an extra month's paid leave, will that do?"

"Do you think I care about your stinking money?" Fushimi Roku ranted on.

"Then what do you want after all..."

"I've bled for the Police Department, I've fought against terrorism! I—"

"Okay, okay, I'll call Dad later and help you with some persuasion." Kujo Yua added.

"What the hell is the old man worth? My relationship with Tamako is none of his damn business!" Fushimi Roku switched to a foul-mouthed mode in an instant.

"I've already removed the surveillance from your house, and in the future, I won't interfere with your matters with Tamako," Kujo Yua's tone turned icy again: "Warning you, don't push it."

Seeing he had pushed enough, Fushimi Roku quickly returned to normal, saying, "Thanks, I feel that's fair. I'll do my best with the case, let's leave it at that, I won't disturb your work anymore."

After he finished speaking, he hung up the phone.

Hmm, not bad, an extra month of paid vacation, plus mother-in-law's help with persuasion... most importantly, mother-in-law has spoken, and won't interfere in his affairs with Tamako anymore.

Does this mean premarital sex is tacitly accepted?

Fushimi Roku pondered this all the way, and when he reached the door of his house, the chilled goods delivery workers were just unloading, moving a box of tuna into the yard.

Meanwhile, Minamoto Tamako had just returned from the police station, worried she had missed Fushimi Roku's return. After learning all the case details she could, she rushed home with the files, only to find she was still a step behind.

A step behind, and she ended up bumping right into Fushimi Roku.

The two of them stared at each other across the delivery workers, while Taira Sakurako casually walked by, unlocking the door and leading the workers inside.

"I-I took Sakurako to town for a bit."

Minamoto Tamako, feeling guilty, proactively explained, hiding the files behind her back.

Fushimi Roku sensed something was up, but didn't ask further, just waved his hand and said, "That's nice, have you eaten yet?"

"Not yet..."

As Minamoto Tamako passed the delivery workers, she couldn't help but ask, looking at the heavy boxes, "What did you buy?"

"Seafood," replied Fushimi Roku.

The delivery workers arranged three large boxes and a freezer in the old house's living room, brought out some documents for Fushimi Roku to sign, then nodded politely and took their leave.

Taira Sakurako stood by the boxes, looking them over, occasionally knocking on them with her hand. She wasn't interested in what's inside, rather she wanted the boxes themselves.

"You bought so much, can we eat it all?"

Minamoto Tamako thought it seemed unlikely, one box was almost taller than her.

"If we can't finish, we can give some away. With so many neighbors around, we won't waste any," Fushimi Roku said as he stuffed foam boxes into the freezer and began to handle the three wooden boxes on the ground.

He pried open a lid, revealing piled-up crushed ice with a hefty tuna lying at the center. By visual estimation, it was about 167cm long, taller than Minamoto Tamako, and weighed at least over 100 kilos.

There were several papers pasted on the box, indicating where the fish had come from, when it was caught, and several inspections it went through... Minamoto Tamako leaned closer for a look, finding it was just pulled from the water two days ago, inspected and frozen yesterday, very fresh.

Mizutani Junichiro was quite considerate, knowing the fridge wouldn't fit everything, and sent Fushimi Roku a freezer.
