Dustine- 11
"I heard you got hag duty, Dusty. I wouldn't trade a week's worth of easy shifts for your spot." Tess joked as she strapped on her latest contraption with the help of her spiders.
Dustine shook her head. Not a political bone in that girl's body. Maybe she could add a function to control her mouth instead of folding towels. "Lady White's mother is actually quite beautiful. I'm sure it won't be as bad as you say."
"She's playing the hag in her current stage production. I'm also talking about how she is on the inside."
How had this girl ever ranked above her in the Harvest of Talents? Maybe it would have been better not to be in the top five and shipped off to this rotting town for the next five years? Dustine triggered [Lady's Grace] to shake off those thoughts. She'd gotten out of the ground floor of the Lord's tower, and that was worth any inconvenience. The only time people there clamored for her attention was after news of her appointment to Lady White.
It wasn't too unusual for minor nobility to become servants to those in greater position and authority; still, she didn't spread her status among the rest of the staff. Bates and Ambrosia knew, but neither of them spread the information.
Here she was, Dusty Fowler, one of the original five, water mage and professional with skills in etiquette and arrangement. "I'm sure you're being hyperbolic, Tess."

The engineer snorted
Together they left Manor White, but parted from there. Tess swung toward the venue of the party and Dustine to Saddlewhite Theater to escort her charge to the event."
At the backstage entrance, an extremely relieved new hire, Brosco, dumped two oversized bags and a large purse onto her. "The White's bags." He paused with a breath of relief. "Good luck." And off he went as though demons were after him.
Five minutes in, and it was time for Kelly to exit and head to the party. A strict schedule had been planned. Five more minutes passed, and then another. Dustine found herself holding the bags, debating whether or not to go in after the actress.
The door crashed open beside her, and Dustine jumped at the beggar queen of the stage's forceful exit. At average height, the beautiful actress was a good bit taller than her daughter.
Dustine found herself chasing after the woman. "Miss White, we have a reception to get to. The guests are expecting you."
"Ew. I'd hoped they would assign me one of my people. They would understand the importance of being fashionably late. No one expects the star to be there when the party begins. I've promised Hazelsights Weekly an interview on how my new role is inspiring the younger generation with supporting roles. So be a dear and hurry up."
The beggar's skills seeped into Dustine, urging her to be sympathetic to the woman's plight. How terrible to be without her people. Of course, she needed to manage her social image. The thoughts were at war with the annoyance of this unscheduled trip. [Lady's Grace] rose up to stop it, but the skill was like a novice fighting an expert.
Dustine chased after the woman, already mentally exhausted by the conflict. The schedule had her down for two more shifts managing Kelly this week.. Maybe she could trade this for latrine or gnome duty?
