Monster Chronicles: My Daoist Skill Comes from Mythology

Chapter 591: Middle Mao True Monarch True Immortal Ancient Corpse_2

After battling with zombie ghosts, Song Lin put in little effort, saving his strength for the coming fight.

His true body had already emerged from seclusion and was meeting up with Mao Zhong and the others.

Song Lin could handle Lingwei alone, but there was one critical point: the area might inform the Great Sun World Venerable.

Thus, Mao Zhong and the others were first instructed to set up an array to seal the area, only after which Song Lin would take action.

Acting now might alert the enemy. Killing Lingwei wasn't the real challenge; if he could be killed once, he could certainly be killed a second time. The key was ensuring the Great Sun World Venerable remained oblivious.

Soon, Lingwei Buddha defeated several Great Demons. After all, demons and ghosts were scattered and unorganized, and Buddhist secret techniques naturally restrained them. The group of demons was quickly subdued.

Everyone gathered around Lingwei.

"Buddha, what is the next step?" Song Lin asked.

"Establish an array and return the corpses. I have already reported this to the Great Sun World Venerable."

"Has the Great Sun World Venerable responded?" Song Lin suddenly inquired.

"Not yet… huh? What's it to you?"

Lingwei noticed Song Lin's tone was off, his suspicious gaze fixed on him.

"What are you looking at? Don't you recognize an old friend?"

Bao Guangming Bodhisattva's features shimmered, revealing Song Lin's original face.

"You!!"

Lingwei was horrified.

"World Venerable!!!"

No matter how Lingwei called, the Great Sun World Venerable gave no response.

At the same moment, the void tore open, and a dozen figures emerged carrying lanterns, led by none other than Song Lin's true body.

Only then did Lingwei realize he had fallen for a trap.

Boom!

Lingwei tried to escape, but Mao Zhong made a hand gesture, and the Innate Eight Diagrams sealed the four directions around Lingwei.

Then, Song Lin's avatar descended, slicing through Lingwei's dharma body with a single sword stroke.

The power of a Four Pills Heavenly Immortal made dealing with such a half-broken Heavenly Immortal remarkably easy.

If not for the goal of capturing Lingwei alive, Mao Zhong or Lin Zhen could have managed the task solo.

The other Buddha Soldiers scattered and fled.

"I'll leave the rest to you," Song Lin said, turning to the others.

"Understood!"

Wang Ziyue drew out the Taiji Thunder Seal, its brilliant light unleashing endless Ghost Soldiers.

Rampant Soldiers, Wind, Fire, Thunder, and Lightning Soldiers, and Yellow Turban Warriors.

Mao Zhong took out his peachwood sword, and a golden Eight Diagram shadow rose into the sky, covering the land below.

"Exorcise!!"

A fierce wind howled as purple light shot from Mao Zhong's eyes, and the immortal peachwood sword pointed into the void.

Boom!

Countless purple thunderbolts rained down, annihilating all Buddha Soldiers and Heavenly Humans present.

Lin Zhen bit his fingertip, smearing fresh blood on his brow, forcibly opening his Heavenly Eye.

The Heavenly Eye emitted beams of blood-red light that ensnared the fleeing Buddhist disciples.

Compared to the others' magical spells, Guu Yuchan's approach was far more straightforward and brutal. He transformed into pure lightning, swiftly appearing before his enemies and subduing them with overwhelming mana.

The battlefield soon stabilized.

Song Lin approached the bound Lingwei and smirked mockingly:

"Lingwei, caught again, are we?"

"Song Lin! I won't forgive you even in death!"

Lingwei's eyes burned with rage, knowing this was all due to Song Lin. If looks could kill, Song Lin would have died a million times over.

"Ha, don't worry. Even if you turn into a ghost, I won't let you off either."

What led to Lingwei's predicament?

If not for attempting to target Song Lin, how could things have turned against him?

He was triumphant when scheming against others, but now that he had been outmaneuvered, he was complaining? Rest assured; payback is a certainty in the future.

Song Lin stuffed Lingwei into a coffin. Capturing him alive was essential for extracting information about another ancient corpse and secrets concerning the Great Sun Heavenly Court.

"Which True Monarch is this?" Song Lin asked.

"This is my second brother, Mao Gu," Mao Zhong said, his expression heavy.

Mao Gu had cultivated the Earth Dao; after his death, he transformed into a piece of land that would eventually evolve into a Small Thousand World. Such was Mao Gu's final destiny after death.

Mao Ying, on the other hand, cultivated the Heavenly Dao.

The three brothers' path to enlightenment was founded on the Acquired Eight Trigrams, which they gradually altered after becoming Heavenly Immortals.

Song Lin examined the True Immortal-level corpse. Even in death, it exuded an astonishing pressure that explained why the Great Sun World Venerable valued it so highly.

"So? How does it look?" Song Lin asked.

"Not good. The Spirit Platform contains no Divine Thought, only a trace of energy that needs time to recuperate," Mao Zhong replied.

"It may recover slowly with the Water of the Life River," Song Lin suggested.

Apart from personal motives, this was the first True Immortal-level powerhouse for the Heavenly Court. If Mao Gu could awaken, it would be a tremendous boon to them.

"I must trouble you, Taoist friend, for such a great kindness," Mao Zhong said, bowing deeply.

Song Lin helped him up and smiled: "No need for courtesy. You're part of the Donghua Heavenly Court; naturally, we have to support each other in times of difficulty."

"If our second brother awakens, who knows if he will retain his memories."

"We'll figure it out one step at a time. Now that we know their whereabouts, it's manageable. The Upper Mao True Monarch is still in the Great Sun Pure Land. I'll infiltrate it and wait for an opportunity to rescue him."

"You all return and prepare. We may face a war with the Great Sun Heavenly Court in the future."

"Understood."

Everyone agreed.

Soon, Mao Zhong retrieved the corpse, erasing all traces from the area.

"Aren't you leaving?" Mao Zhong asked, looking at Song Lin while others, carrying lanterns, tore open the void.

"I'll stay. Oh, use your Sanmao techniques to leave me with some injuries," Song Lin replied. Seeing Mao Zhong's puzzled face, he explained: "A ruse of self-sacrifice!"

"Understood!"

Mao Zhong pulled out a talisman, chanted under his breath, and ignited it into golden flames. The fire scorched several holes in Song Lin's right arm and thigh, even harming his soul.

"Good. Remove the array and leave quickly!" Song Lin commanded softly.

Without hesitation, Mao Zhong and the others departed through the void.

With his form concealed, Song Lin slipped into a chaotic void stream fragment to hide.

After a long while, a dazzling white light pierced the void.

A Buddha statue manifested in this world.

The Buddha was entirely forged from white glass, emitting brilliant treasure light that illuminated all directions, a radiant sun crowning its head. Its hands formed a peculiar treasure seal.

This Buddha was none other than the Great Sun World Venerable, the Creator God of the Great Sun Pure Land, a True Immortal master, and the bearer of the Dao Fruit of the Great Sun Buddha.

Buddha Light permeated every corner of the void, leaving nowhere to hide from the Great Sun World Venerable's Dharma Eye.

Even this seemingly empty void, despite traces being artificially erased, couldn't escape his detection. He could sense a great battle had transpired, involving immortals, Buddhas, demons, and the Star Sea Ancient Corpse.

Lingwei's trail ended here. Now, with no further information to find, it seemed Lingwei's fate was grim.

The Great Sun World Venerable surveyed the surroundings, searching for clues.

Then, he turned to one part of the void and shouted: "Reveal yourself!"

An invisible pressure surged toward a direction. The void cracked with snapping sounds, opening into a massive void fissure.

Song Lin leapt out, deeply bowing toward the Buddha: "Greetings, World Venerable!"

"Who are you?" The Great Sun World Venerable frowned.

He recognized that this was a Heavenly Immortal but knew this figure was not part of the Pure Land.

"This humble monk is Bao Guangming, the Main City God of the Lingwei World."

"Where are they?"

Song Lin said nervously: "They're all… all dead. Those people appeared to be from some Sanmao Heavenly Court."

Upon hearing mention of the Heavenly Court, a glint appeared in the Great Sun World Venerable's eyes, lending some credence to Song Lin's words.

"Then how are you still alive?"

"This monk broke through during the battle…"

Song Lin recited his carefully prepared excuse.

"Return to the Pure Land with me to explain further."

The Great Sun World Venerable gave no further acknowledgment.

Thereafter, the Lingwei World was officially renamed the Bao Guangming World.
