Antonym of Distraction
"Wait, can you repeat that?" My daughter asked, in nearly perfect, if not overly loud and violent accents of Mana Language as she apparently attempted to speak to Raygunnr in his native tongue, even if she seemed to use the equivalent of a harsh magical accent. I was so lost in the accent portion of her speaking that I almost missed Raygunnr's response.
"I said that I am now pregnant."
Gasps.
Well Penelope and Gwen both gasped at the sudden declaration. A quick glance around showed that everyone else who was here had no clue what was actually being said or done. Still, their reaction, and my apparent unamused look caused everyone to stop what they were doing.
"Pregnant? Really? Do I need to go over a Bio-mechanical lesson with you and talk about the MaMes and DiMes?" I ask, more than a little sarcasm seeping in.
Most of this condescension comes from the fact that what I've seen thus far is that Raygunnr, a MaMes or Mana only variants of the humanoid Teleiotís killer robots are unable to reproduce. Whereas the DiMes who can use both mana and Qi are functionally equipped to reproduce other killer robots. Both have exceptional healing capabilities based on eating metals, which I believe is causing most of the problems we are now seeing.
"My guess, that when you ate all of my Tier III metals from my desk, it was likely too rich in metal and nutrients causing what most would call, a tummy ache." I replied.
"You don't understand, this is bad. I mean, I got the quest to eat them all, and now this," Raygunnr exclaimed as he clutched his metallic stomach with both hands. Oddly enough, I could see his stomach distending the way one would expect for either server IBS or being pregnant. Then to make matters worse, he began making sounds.
Grinding gurgle.
Picture a mix between a car compactor crushing multiple beetle bugs into a tiny six-inch cube, while mixing that sound with someone gurgling while frantically yelling for help, that is the sound I would describe being heard. The sound was so sharp that I couldn't help but cringe slightly at the noting of its passing. Finally, once it was over and a look of momentary relief filled his face, we could act.
"All right, lie down and let me check you out," I stated not wanting this to get any worse. Also, I was curious about the impact of having several high energy components being released into a Teleiotís. This was going to be fascinating at the very least.
"Where?" Raygunnr asked, as he looked down at the ground. Seeing his reaction I almost wanted to facepalm at the notion.
"I don't know, maybe the now immaculately clean of clutter desk that you provided," I state, indicating the same table that now sat empty with odd pockets of mana enriched dust that gave outlines of the valuable materials I had lost. I focus on those dust silhouettes for a moment and then realize, I should probably ask for a cleaning staff to come by and help out. A quick look at the ground lets me know it is still grassy with metal slabs for seats letting me know I don't need to vacuum. Which is always nice.
Raygunnr fortunately focuses my attention on the present as he lies down on my table with only parts of his head and feet laying off, but for the most part he can lay on the table completely.
"Tall people, how can you all look so majestic while standing, but utterly comical while laying down," I mutter to myself before going in and opening my third eye to focus my Angel's Sight inward, I begin scanning the big murder bot and then I pause.
"Oh wow, look at that," I say in utter amazement at the sight that is happening right before my eye. There is a bright golden sheen of activity that is taking place. As there is clearly a space to size ratio that is going to cause problems here if not too careful. I am following floating chunks of gear bits that are spiraling into the glowing vortex of condensed matter that once served as Raygunnr's stomach. My mind is so focused on what is happening, seeing minor pieces moving throughout the blood? No through the mana? Yeah, mana streams of this MaMes' body that I feel that I am almost accosted when Gwen shouts violently at me to get my attention.
"What is happening?" Gwen asked, again showing even more levels of proficiency in speaking in the Mana Language. Though given where we were and how intricate the processes I was checking on, I winced at the mana decibel being released, while Raygunnr also raised his hand in a stopping gesture.
"Stop screaming," I respond for both me and my patient.
"Wait, why are you telling me to stop? Also, I'm not screaming" Gwen asked, still all but screaming.
"Calm down there emo girl," I pipe in trying to cut this off before it becomes too much of a thing. It is clear from the subtle shifts and movements of Raygunnr's body that he is feeling even more pain. Worse, as he is clearly a metallic life form, I'm fairly certain that regular Healing magic will not work, meaning I will need to be careful with how to help him. Again, while I am thinking about this, Gwen continues.
"Emo girl, what does that even mean?" Gwen asks, her tone haughty as she looks down at herself using her normal third eye to glance first at me, then down to her own clothes. "Of the two of us, I'm not the one wearing a military black uniform."
Penelope almost looked indignant at that, which was why I defended her and her attempts to dress me up as a miniature doll whenever she could.
"Well, I'm not the one screaming in all Emo Death Magic." I respond gesticulating with my hand wildly for emphasis.
"Emo Death Magic?" Gwen Parroted.
At that Penelope's eyes went wide as she heard Gwen speak in common and saw her shouting in Mana Language. At least that is what I think she did, as she responded right away.
"Oh, I get it, yes you are using Death Magic mana as the medium to talk through apparently?" Penelope noted, her eyes going wide as she held a magical device in her hands. Taking a moment I Telekinetically reach out and grab the item in question, only to find that it is a mana viewer. Or to be more accurate it would be the equivalent of a magical magnifying glass that helped detect mana.
"What is this? Cheating?" I begin, only to see Penelope's face drop in anguish. Then taking a second longer to process what she did, I feel bad for putting it down. "No, wait, this is actually brilliant."
Unauthorized duplication: this narrative has been taken without consent. Report sightings.
"What? It is?" Penelope asked.
"Yeah, you had a problem, or a perceived deficit in what you wanted to do, so you Enchanted a new product to fix that discrepancy. Honestly, this is brilliant and what I hope all Enchanting Plus students are striving towards," I respond before mentally giving the item back to Penelope. For her part Penelope just smiled brightly at the statement while clutching the self-created Enchanted device within her hand.
There was a moment of silence as everyone seemed to take in that moment, only for Raygunnr to speak up, still clearly in severe discomfort after eating all my cogs and widgets.
"Sorry, not to break up this moment, but could you please help me pass this child? Do you think I will get an achievement for being the first MaMes to bear a child?" He asked, his mana signature trailing off as he was clearly in the throes of delirium.
"Again, you can't get pregnant, first you are clearly a male," I pause and then wonder other than his own self notification what separated him from the female variants? I never really checked under the hood of any of these animatronic killers, and I wondered, nope, no wondering, stopping that thought right now. He said he was a male and that is good enough for me.
Then focusing my third eye back on his stomach, I once again see what could almost be described as the starting of nuclear fission, as atoms and magical particles all collide inward to form a condensed core of a baby star. That's when I realize what is happening.
"Oh shoot," I state as I begin to focus on the world that is the body of a MaMes variant of the Teleiotís.
"Uh-oh, she has her tongue out, doesn't that mean we need to run?" Raygunnr asks, doing one of the ultimate neck extends as he tries to look at me, while keeping his body completely still. Which is good, as I am about five seconds away from strapping his frame down to this table with Telekinesis if he begins to move.
"Normally, I would say yes, but right now you are ground zero for this Cass-tastrophy, and I'm pretty sure she would just hunt you down if you tried to escape," my emo daughter responds back, still using gothic Death magic to speak her mind.
"I'll hunt you both down if you don't cease and desist," I hiss out.
Silence.
This gives me enough time to focus, and work on trying to create the tightest core from randomly floating metallic shards and particles ever. In what must be the most random form of arranging magical blocks ever.
There were lines that needed to be established both horizontally and vertically. Then because we are dealing with a three-dimensional object, we had to not only curve the horizontal lines but then interweave the horizontal lines with other horizontal lines that faced in other directions.
The process was oddly therapeutic, even if conducted in an overly masochistic to obsessive dissectologists. Fortunately, I am not obsessive, at least not when it comes to puzzles, but I did finish the puzzle provided with minimal difficulties.
A hard part was when I realized halfway through that I had a flow channel backwards. This was also the same time when I finally understood what it was that I was doing. Honestly, I felt kind of dumb at first, as I was building a core within Raygunnr. To be more exact, I was building a dual functioning, dual valve Qi and Mana core that then had to be reinforced throughout Raygunnr's body.
Raygunnr's pain, or the lump he swore was a child growing within him, it was the formation of a Qi condensing state. The only problem was that Raygunnr had nowhere to store the condense from a nearly viscous form to a form closer to Qi. This condensing also caused problems, as it was the equivalent of being poisoned. Too much oxygen is dangerous, just as too much condensed mana for a MaMes is also dangerous.
Was he purposefully given this quest with me around so I could begin to map out the differences between a real human, or core of a flesh or spirit creature with that of a machine? If so, this was awesome and well worth the exchange of parts, as I got to see something truly unique. No, not just see, but I got to once again be on the cutting edge of what was possible in this world.
Here we had a mechanical Teleiotís consume enough Tier III metals to enact a change. Mentally, I also understood that almost all Teleiotís were born and initially outlined in Legrand territory. Which according to my understanding was also where the majority of, if not all, of my Tier III metals came from. In a way, it was almost as if I was giving back what had been stolen to its rightful place. Or to a native denizen of the area. There was probably a circle of life parable, and likely a song that could be added to this part but really, I was focused.
As I kept taking the broken-down widget materials and using them as needed. Slowly the bloating that had been taking place in the stomach began to dissipate as I began building complex dual use channeling systems that followed the same pattern I used for my QiMO machine. In a way this was the next logical step of that process. I went and used Tier III metals to create a QiMO machine that could use both mana and Qi. Then now, I used many of those same principles learned there to help form those same type of connections in a living creature.
The more this went on, the more I also realized that there was likely a new school of magic. Or at least a magical variant of Life, Healing, and Metallurgy that could be fused together to focus directly on Healing Teleiotís. I know I already have used my own blends of Healing, but I am talking about a generic open form of magic that anyone can use. In particular I do think it would be helpful if the Teleiotís could heal themselves magically, as opposed to having to devour all metal in their wake.
That was why, I began trying to find a resonating harmonics of magic that could positively affect Raygunnr, all while using Precise Telekinesis to move metal pieces into place, while trying to help the molten core use its ever expanding energy to temporarily melt and fuse the particles together in a permanent structure that would then be capable of withstanding the heat.
Yes, multitasking on two puzzles at the same time might not be the best. I won't tell this to Raygunnr, but I do think both are worth doing, the one of creating a dual use motor core for Raygunnr obviously taking precedence.
After a lot of trial and effort, I can feel two things happening. First, I feel a magical harmonization with the metallic structure that helps heal the connected joints without having to rely on the flash heating and cooling method that is currently going on. While those steps were important at first, as it let me see the way the elements should be aligned upon initial creation, they have done little other than make my job tougher as I try to battle what is effectively acid reflux, or the Teleiotís equivalent of condensed mana reflux, in addition to everything else.
Ultimately, the acid reflux effect is what causes me to push towards creating a magical cure faster. While I could have probably switched and used the easy method of using my Dual Quintessence Healing, but that is cheating. Or rather it is purposefully limiting in what the world can do for this process. While I can heal the Teleiotís, I find it limiting that I am the only one who can do this, and it is a great disservice to them as a species to be solely reliant on me and effectively devouring the world around them to be able to heal. Thus my want to push forward and ultimately create this new form of healing.
Click.
Finally, after what feels like hours of trial and error, I finally manage to synthesize a blend of different magical components and elements to open up a mana only form of Healing that can directly affect the Teleiotís. Yes, finally there is an open and universal specialized Robo-Healing or Robealing magic would be nice as well. Then just as I realize that is a bad name, well both of them, that's of course when the world decides to mock me.
Chime.
I feel it connect in my mind as it waited until I was most focused on the actual creation of magic itself to harp on the name of this wonderous form of magic.
Hidden Quest Completed: Now That Is Robealing: You have managed to create a field of magic usable by anyone that can be used to Heal Teleiotís. Rewards: Experience, New Blended School of Magic Created, New Title, New Bloodline Perk initiated.
Experience Gained:
New Blended School of Magic Created: Robealing: Blending together elements of traditional Healing, Life, and Metallurgy magic to create a form of Healing designed for Teleiotís, and all other sentient mechanoid lifeforms.I could feel the world once again grind to a stop as it tried to synchronize with me fully and bestow experience on me, but I was still not quite fully in phase with the server. That said, I was glad that my understanding of the world still allowed me to create a new magical field that could add positivity to the world. Even though I was effectively just reworking something I already solved, but in a mass producible way. Huzzah automation, which honestly fits given that this is effectively for living auto-mechanical devices.
Before I could get lost, the title began forming from before my eyes. Honestly, I was curious as to what I could get as I assumed I already had
New Title: Life and Classes: You have found a way to allow new healing class types on sentient species. Effect: Can awaken Healing and Healer related classes to any sentient species. Species identified by your Taxonomy skills have a +50% harmonization effect with Healing related magic, and +100% growth speed for Healing related skills. While I hated the name, I couldn't help but smile slightly at the effect of that Title. This meant that I could open up Healing and Healer classes for any sentient species, meaning if enough people took to this class, then no one would have to see their loved ones die.
Seeing the message, I couldn't help but smile faintly wondering what this world would be like with a few more Healers running around.
That thought was short lived, for the next second I could all but feel the Spatial Distortion opening around me as I felt Mallory appearing.
Fwoosh!
Mallory arrived with a flurry of movement, as grass and other elements around my classroom began to rustle at her appearance. For a moment she looked like she was about to yell, but the she paused as a question came to her face. Then she said the two words that I never thought would be asked at me in such a questioning tone.
"You're smiling?"
