Revive Rome: Wait! Why not make the empress fall in love with me first?

Chapter 7: Naga

Based on Douglas's account, The Azure Longsword members roughly figured out the basic situation of this city.

Hero Harbor is a rather special port city. On one hand, it is isolated overseas, so the mainland's ruling power cannot extend here, making it a natural hideout for pirates and smugglers.

They usually raid and plunder along the west coast of the Iberian Continent, against the Wood Elf tribal alliance and the Highland Dwarf Kingdom. If the southern Wood Elves launch a naval crackdown, they flee to the northern Dwarf Kingdom territories; if dwarves start clearing pirates, they move south.

If both races jointly clear the coastal areas, they simply move far from the continent and hide in Hero Harbor to lie low for a while.

On the other hand, the rulers of Hero Harbor are not pirates themselves, including the other eight islands nearby, it's all governed by a religious sacrificial group called "Tzontlilic", entirely composed of Naga.

Naga, also known as "Sea Elves," have upper bodies similar to the elves' race. They claim to be the ancestral race of the elves on land, with ancient Naga ancestors active near the coast, some clans trying to move onto land eventually evolved into the current elves.

Of course, the elves absolutely do not acknowledge this; they say the Naga are cursed elves, for betraying the elves' clan god "Akainville", thus the deity cursed them to grow fishtails, hence they are scorned by land creatures, only able to hide in the dark deep sea.

The so-called scorn, apart from religious exclusivity, primarily stems from racial discrimination. Although the pirates here don't care about these things (they discriminate against all the weak, regardless of race), the Naga guards in Hero Harbor choose to wear robes and hoods, covering themselves thoroughly——especially the snake tails on their lower bodies, thus at first everyone mistakenly thought they were elves.

As the girls listened to Douglas's account, they were discussing in the Mind Communication Channel.

Apparently, regardless of whether it's the Wood Elf tribal alliance or the Highland Dwarf Kingdom, it's undoubtedly something they have never heard of. Today, the Iberian Peninsula hosts only three powers: the human Aragon-Castilla Kingdom, the invading Undead Kingdom of Hafsga from the South Continent, and the Half-Elf Kingdom of Lusitania.

However, even the Half-Elves of Lusitania are undoubtedly not the same race as the so-called "Wood Elves," because several Wood Elves were present in the tavern at the moment.

Their hair was dry brown like straw, much thicker than human hair, and their irises were emerald green, with countless tiny pupils, the dense compound eyes enough to make anyone with trypophobia scream.

And looking at Miel, although her hair color, eye color, and ears were similarly distinct from humans, her overall appearance still conformed to human aesthetics.

Under the gaze of the girls, the few Wood Elves also became restless. One of them stood up, hesitated for a long time, looked at Miel in the team, and asked:

"Are you...are you one of our kind?"

"Sally!" The Wood Elf next to her gave a low shout, warning her.

"I'm sorry." The Wood Elf named Sally hurriedly apologized. Just by looking at Miel's monocular pupil, they knew she wasn't the same race as them, but the pointed ears and green irises did look somewhat similar.

Overall, rather than looking like a Wood Elf, she seemed more like a hybrid descendant of a Wood Elf and a human. Therefore, these Wood Elves also became uneasy, couldn't help but huddle together whispering.

"This appearance, could it be a descendant of a clan member intermarrying with humans?"

"Wait, humans shouldn't fit our aesthetics, are there really clan members willing to intermarry with humans?"

"Hard to say, doesn't every race have a few perverts who like mating with animals..."

They were discussing in their native dialect in private, so the others couldn't understand. However, with the translation of the two Mind Mages, they could roughly comprehend some of it.

Having a general understanding of the city, everyone's next step strategy became clear.

Go to find the rulers of Hero Harbor, the Naga, to inquire more about the situation.

As The Azure Longsword members left the tavern, the remaining guests immediately clamored to their feet. Some began to discuss fiercely without hiding, while others quickly threw their payment on the counter and hurriedly left.

Outside, Aske explained the purpose to the Naga guards on the street, and the other party was also shocked and puzzled.

Well, there have been pirates looking for Naga guards before, but it was usually trivia like networking, trying to purchase property, or visiting inmates, but no one ever voluntarily asked to see the Tzontlilic priests.

The Naga society itself is a theocratic organization, where the Tzontlilic priests simultaneously serve as clerics and rulers. They tacitly allowed alien race pirates to reside again but never interacted with the pirates, leaving the lower-level Naga citizens to handle secular affairs.

Conversely, pirates also didn't want to see these priests, the reason being simpler: the priests are Transcendents, capable of annihilating an entire fleet with a single hand, who would want to meet those who could easily take their lives?

"I can go and ask the priests." After thinking it over, the Naga guard thought there was no issue and replied, "As for whether they are willing to see you, I can't decide that."

So, he called a few more guards to watch over these humans (in case the priests agreed to the meeting, and these humans ran off), then hurriedly left.

"How's it going?" Under the guards' watch, Aske quietly asked Miel in the Mind Communication Channel, "Did you find anything?"

"Worldlines from the past," Miel answered, "This island... no, this island and the surrounding sea, all come from worldlines of the past."

"You mean they all originate from the Prehistoric Era?" Medea mused, "An era when the alien race had not yet gone extinct?"

"Correct," Miel said, "I sensed some fluctuations on worldlines, from the scope of the spread, they entered our world at this time, approximately 2 hours ago."

"2 hours ago, what were we doing then?" Aske suddenly asked nonchalantly.

The girls fell silent.

"I guess we were whaling?"

"Not whales, supposedly the offspring of a Sea God."

"Are you saying because we harmed its offspring, the Sea God caused this mutant shift, dragging the Azores Islands from three thousand years ago to this world?"

"I don't think so," Aske continued, "If the Sea God was punishing us and had this ability, I would more likely think he would throw us back to the Prehistoric Era."

Everyone:..........

Stop right there! It's terrifying!

If they were suddenly thrown three thousand years back, like Mia and Peggy, who are alone, it would be okay, but for girls like Nora and Eleanor, with family and relatives, they'd probably collapse on the spot.

What if we can't go back? Would they never see their family again?

"So, don't worry," seeing everyone's faces, Miel said somewhat helplessly, "I told you, it's not us entering the past worldlines but the past them entering our worldlines."

"As for whether it's a mutant shift or man-made crossing, that's what we need to clear up with the Tzontlilic priests."
