Elder Gren's guard reacted extremely quickly, two longswords drawn in an instant, slashing swiftly at the assassin attacking from behind.
Facing the blocking blades, Peggy did not slow down at all. In the instant the longswords were upon her, she bizarrely dispersed into a swarm of bats.
"It's the Blood Clan!" the guards shouted immediately, yet their faces showed no sign of panic.
For Elder Gren's bloodline was that of a "Dreamwalker" (just like Her Majesty the Queen), and he had already reached Level 19. And as everyone knows, the Mind type abilities are a bane to the Blood Clan.
Upon hearing the guards' warning, Elder Gren turned around with composure and casually snapped his fingers.
Dream Realm Law. Dream Entry!
The formless power of the dream realm surged forth, sweeping over Peggy who was about to close in.
However, the vampire girl did not fall and lose consciousness while sprinting at high speed, as everyone had expected. Instead, she suddenly dissipated into a mere illusion.
An illusion? The guards scanned the surroundings warily while Elder Gren's expression darkened slightly, staring at the spot where Peggy's clone had vanished, seemingly pondering something.
Traditional vampires were said to possess the ability to create illusions, but Elder Gren, with his Mind System powers, should not be deceived by such illusions, right? Could it be a kind of clone skill from the High Rank Laws?
Just then, everyone saw the crowd that had originally dispersed suddenly turn back from the corner of the street.
Their bodies were stiff, their faces expressionless. They moved mechanically, their postures bizarrely aggressive as they surged towards Elder Gren and his companions like zombies.
"Squad Leader, be careful! It's a Banshee's possession skill!" The guards quickly protected Elder Gren behind them, warning him to be cautious of the invisible Banshee.
Elder Gren also activated his Mind Vision in the blink of an eye, but found no presence of a possessing spiritual body among those controlled masses. Instead, there seemed to be signs of mind control.
"No, it's not an invisible Banshee, it's a Mind Mage!" Elder Gren urgently warned aloud.
He spread his arms and pulled a phantom figure from the dream, it was the Demigod Elder Delar from Elder Gren's memory.
But before the phantom could fully form, a bullet suddenly passed through it, sending the would-be Demigod Elder back into oblivion. The bullet continued unabated, hitting the ground at Elder Gren's feet.
A sniper! Elder Gren quickly activated his ability, drawing an invisible riband-shaped shield around him.
Dream Realm Law. Real and Illusion Shield, any attack falling here would automatically be transformed from physical to illusory, spiraling into the subconscious ocean of the surrounding crowd—a survival skill derived from the Dream Sequence that was extremely potent.
As Elder Gren unfolded his spirituality, the shield swiftly expanded into a hemisphere, enclosing Elder Gren at the center and isolating the guards and the surging crowd around him.
Before he could even take a breath of relief, Elder Gren felt a pain in his chest—a longsword wielded by one of the guards had pierced through his body from behind.
"You, you…" Elder Gren wanted to say something, but his life force was rapidly draining from his body.
Where in the world did this guard come from? I clearly separated them all on the outside...
As Elder Gren's body fell to the ground, the guard who had stabbed him also instantly dissipated into the air. The protective hemisphere shield shattered, and the surrounding guards rushed in to check on the life signs of their leader.
He was already dead, killed by a sword that pierced his heart. Such an attack could be instantly fatal for a Dreamwalker, who wasn't known for physical strength.
However, they clearly saw the assassin who murdered Speaker Gren just dissolve on the spot…
Right, it was the Banshee! She became invisible and lurked beside Speaker Gren, revealing herself in the midst of the Dream Sequence that isolated everyone, manipulating the longsword to assassinate him, and then vanished again in invisibility!
As for why Speaker Gren's Mind Vision didn't detect the Banshee's presence, it was surely because he had just used a major skill to save his life, which momentarily lowered his guard.
The crowd quickly came to a conclusion, so they left a few people to protect the body and the crime scene while others hurried off toward the Court to call for support from the Royal City guard.
From a distant tower, Miel calmly retracted her rifle.
The original assassination target was none other than a clone created by Peggy's Illusion Sword near the scene. However, in some parallel world, Peggy used her real body to carry out the assassination.
The bullet Miel fired, imbued with the power of Fate, passed through the target's Dream Ability illusion, and directly hit the ground at the target's feet.
This created an anchor point of Destiny.
After Speaker Gren activated his Shield, Miel quietly used her ability to extract Peggy from the parallel world at the bullet's point of impact, right next to the target, at his unguarded flank.
Peggy from the parallel world appeared and quickly underwent Flesh Transformation to disguise as a guard. She assassinated the target and revealed herself to the other guards' view. Only then did Miel casually dissolve the summoning, causing that "guard" to immediately vanish just like the Banshee's Invisibility.
"It's over, huh? That was fast," Thira laughed nearby. "I thought there might be a hiccup."
"Were you looking forward to a hiccup?" Miel asked casually.
"Of course not," Thira crossed her arms. "However, to think that a Speaker, a Transcendent nearing Lv.19, just a step away from becoming a Demigod, could be assassinated so easily... that certainly surprised me."
"Because level doesn't determine the outcome of a battle," Miel pointed at her temple. "Experience, awareness, and tactics – though they can be easily overlooked, in reality, they're more important than level."
"Classic Squad Leader talk," Thira remarked, turning her head. "Are we done?"
"Just a moment longer," said Medea. "I'm implanting thoughts into those guards... Done, now they are fully convinced that the guard who assassinated the target was a disguised Banshee."
"The Parasitic Seed you planted in their Mind Bodies won't be exposed during further inspections, right?" Thira asked cautiously. "There might still be other High Rank Transcendents in the Mind System among the Half-elf Conservative Party who could detect your interference."
"There is indeed one more, I've seen the assassination list," Medea smiled. "That one is a target for Mia's Team A. She probably won't survive tonight... if they don't mess up, that is."
"That's good then," Thira conceded, since Medea seemed certain. Besides, Miel could still observe the future to confirm if the matter had indeed occurred.
"I'm back," Peggy's voice came from below the tower.
"Alright, let's head out," Miel said.
With the team assembled, Squad B retreated.
