An enormous creature flashed through the skies, announcing his presence with a horrible and terrifying roar. The denizens of Springtown looking up in fearful awe of the creature that flew through the purplish-orange haze.
All across the Safe Zone, dozens of Mortals lifted their heads towards the sky.
Their gazes interested in the physical manifestation of Vritrium's Memento Source Item. The Shadow Of Twilight Obscurity was perhaps the strongest summoned companion within Springtown, something confirmed by both the Strategos Of Eyes And Words alongside the Sun-Swallowing Golden Creation.
The moment each of them heard that draconic roar, their interest vanished, replaced with an overwhelming sense of fear and curiosity.
Those that had integrated perception-type fragments thought that they could see glimpses of something moving within the expanding haze. The beating of wings alongside the graceful movements of a swishing tail.
Their minds creating a connection between the creature that dwelled within the Sunless Obscurity and the fantastical creature from myths and legends. Regardless of whether one was a lutin or human, an appaloscian or vermiton.
All of them possessed tales about dragons.
Delila, Maliq and Amadeus looked up towards the Sunless Obscurity, the lone vermiton unconsciously taking a step forward, as if trying to observe the creature in greater detail. His Fragment Of Eyes able to pierce through Vritrium's Memento Source Item, and gaze upon this incredible creature.
[Fragment Of Dragon] [Song Lian Yu; Threaded-Heart Of Terminus Est] (Summon, Weave, Dragon, Aura, Ability, Technique, Mutation, Debuff) (Heart)
"… You didn't mention he had more than one summoned companion Delila," Amadeus whispered, prompting her to blanche and for Maliq's eyes to widen in shock.
"He has more than one!? What fragment and Mana Core was it manifested from!?" The Right-Eye Of Life And Nightmares asked.
"Fragment Of Dragon. And a Weave Mana Core."
Although Delila made no sudden movements, she did not fail to notice Maliq manifest his Fragment Of Chainmail or his Fragment Of Staff. The Lapis Mage-Armour and Lazuli Mage-Staff gleaming a bright blue-colour.
Celadonis manifesting behind him, an enormous golden toad the size of truck.
"Maliq!" Delila tried to whisper, coming out as more of a muted shout.
The red-skinned man ignored her words, half-glancing towards his summoned companion behind him. Despite him communicating with the Sun-Swallowing Golden Creation through his Fragment Of Toad, the golden-moss toad responded verbally.
"I would recommend listening to Delila this time around Maliq. These summoned companions are greeting us, not preparing to go to war."
"Draconic Races have always been arrogant and prideful. It seems that this one is no different." Celadonis haphazardly replied.
"But how can you be sure that he won't attack us!?" Maliq retorted, torn between wanting to keep his armour and staff manifested and following the advice of his summoned companion.
He watched as Celadonis merely croaked. Experience telling him that this was more of a "shrug" than anything else.
"I do not. Which is why you don't want to do anything that might provoke it."
Amadeus and Delila glared at Maliq, watching the man squirm under their combined stares. At Celadonis' behest, the appaloscian dismissed both the Lapis Mage-Armour and Lazuli Mage-Staff, dispersing into a purplish-blue mist of magic natured spiritual energy.
His eyes glancing upwards, towards the half-obscured image of the Threaded-Heart Of Terminus Est.
The shadow of a mythological beast could be seen through the haze of dusk natured spiritual energy. The fifty-metre-long form of an epoch-heart dragon visible for a single moment before feeling someone use an observation-type ability on it. His silver-golden eyes narrowed at the group of Sixth Initiated Mortals below it, before hearing Eis whisper to him.
"Those three. That's them."
The Threaded-Heart Of Terminus Est grinned, before slowly beginning his descent downwards. Ignoring the presence the night-obscurity drake somewhere within this Memento Source Item, Song Lian Yu adjusted the positioning of his wings, revealing himself to the growing crowd of Mortals beneath him.
The sight of an epoch-heart dragon caused the world to go quiet, muted into a hushed awe.
As a Mortal, Song Lian Yu was around twenty-five-metres long. Gigantic, without a shadow of doubt, but not reaching the same size as Ler Setanta who stretched over thirty-metres in length.
As a Knight however, Song Lian Yu had doubled in both length and size, stretching just over fifty-metres from head to tail. His platinum-coloured scales gleamed beneath the purplish-orange haze of the Sunless Obscurity, tail flowing behind him as if a ribbon caught in the wind.
His scaled whiskers had grown thicker and longer. The horns that sprouted atop his head stretched back even further, protecting the frills that grew behind them. His five-clawed hands grown large enough to crush an automobile within them.
But other than that… the most astounding different that Song Lian Yu had experienced was-.
The sound of a heartbeat echoed within his chest. A dull rhythmic thud which seemed to contain within it some strange conceptual truth. Despite its back of strength or power behind it, the glowing purplish-silver organ within the chest of the Threaded-Heart Of Terminus Est was unmistakable, even from the ground.
If you stumble upon this narrative on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen from Royal Road. Please report it.
His Seir-Terminus Heart thrummed.
As if an engine just waiting to be ignited.
There was no need for another draconic roar or the activation of his [Threaded End] Aura or Knight Ranked abilities. With just his presence alone, Song Lian Yu had enraptured all that gazed upon him. The epoch-heart dragon landing in the space before Maliq, Delila and Amadeus with a soft thud, staring down at the three Sixth Initiated Mortals alongside Nestor and Celadonis.
He exhaled, releasing a warm breath that travelled several dozen metres before dispersing.
"I greet you, Administrator Of Thunder And Civilization. I greet you, Tribune Of Dusk And Destruction. I greet you, Right-Eye Of Life And Nightmares. I greet you alongside your summoned companions, and I welcome thee on behalf of my master and summoner, the one Titled Princeps Of The Wandering Mutation."
"I am Song Lian Yu, the Threaded-Heart Of Terminus Est."
The epoch-heart dragon paused before lowering his head to ground. Although the action surprised many within the crowd, none dared to utter even so much as a whisper, watching as a figure revealed themselves from within his mane of scaled-frills.
Humans, lutins and even a few floresiensis gazing upon the figure was flushed cheeks and unblinking expressions, seeing the figure of a horned woman step down onto the ground. Her long, silver-white hair seemed to hum with ice natured spiritual energy, her pale skin devoid of any blemish or scar.
In accordance with the standards of beauty that some Races possessed, this woman was extraordinarily beautiful. As someone who once possessed both a Beauty Mana Core and Desire Mana Core, Schwarz Eis had always prided herself on her appearance and her ability to influence others.
Even without her former abilities, she could feel Fragments Of Mind trembling within her presence, unable to prevent themselves from burning their image within her mind.
Adorned in pure-white dress that stretched towards her ankles, Schwarz Eis gave a small curtsey towards the three Mortals in front of her, allowing her partial effect description to be displayed.
[Fragment Of Summon] [Schwarz Eis Seir; White Devil Of The Ninth Circle] (Summon, Ice, Spirit, Spell, Defensive, Shield, Spell, Memento, Debuff) (Devil)
The sound of several sharp intakes of breath echoed throughout the crowd. Possessing more than just a single summoned companion was surprising enough but managing to obtain one with a Memento Source Item was even more astounding!
"I am Schwarz Eis Seir, the White Devil Of The Ninth Circle. I greet thee on behalf of my master and summoner." Eis spoke in Common, allowing most of the crowd to understand her words. Her sweet-sounding voice was devoid of spiritual energy but still managed to breach the minds of those who lacked mental defences or mental resistances.
"Miss Delila. Mister Maliq. Mister Amadeus. Please follow me. The owner of the Wonderous Forest Dwelling has given you three permission to enter. Nestor is permitted to accompany you, although given Celadonis' and Vritrium's size, the two are either asked to wait outside or return to their respective dwellings."
Although Delila opened her mouth to say something, Amadeus was just a tad too quick for her.
"Before we continue further, I would ask you a question, Schwarz Eis Seir?" Said the Tribune Of Dusk And Destruction. His voice loud enough to be heard by all the other denizens of Springtown behind him.
The ice devil spirit did not appear fazed at his words, merely nodding in response, gesturing for him to continue. Amadeus half-glanced towards Vritrium swimming through the Sunless Obscurity above him, knowing that his summoned companion would move to defend him the instant the situation called for it.
"Will the Princeps Of The Wandering Mutation be staying within Springtown permanently? Or will he be moving on to further search and explore the small realm for other Dungeons, Safe Zones and Wonders?"
Amadeus' words caused whispers to break out behind him, although the vast majority of the crowd still gazed at Eis, some still enraptured by her beauty and others awaiting her response.
Song Lian Yu snorted another gust of warm air, while Schwarz Eis Seir just smiled.
"That remains to be seen."
Amadeus and Maliq frowned at her words, while Delila stepped forward, wanting to ask her own question. Although she could have asked Nestor, Vritrium or even Celadonis about this, there was a Knight right in front of her who had experienced something she had not yet undergone.
Something which interested all of the Mortals within Springtown.
"How much stronger is a Veinless Knight in comparison to that of a Sixth Initiated Mortal!? Is it worth waiting to obtain a Memento Source Fragment before ascending to the next Rank!?"
The crowd turned silent in response to her question.
Hundreds of pairs of eyes turning towards Schwarz Eis Seir, watching as the corners of the ice devil spirit's mouth curved upwards. Although part of her wanted to reveal the truth, she could not help but want to tease these innocent, little Mortals.
In response to the question, Eis nodded.
"Yes… and no."
This time, causing Delila to frown alongside Maliq and Amadeus.
Covering her mouth with one hand, Eis giggled, before shaking her head.
"Apologies. But that is my answer."
"How so!?" Someone in the crowd responded, also emanating the presence of a Sixth Initiated Mortal. Eis did not even bother turning her head to look at them, instead continuing to address Delila and the two beside her.
"The value of a Memento Source Item does not correlate with the strength of its effects. It is entirely dependent on the individual and how they desire to shape it, using fragments, Titles and spiritual items. Waiting until Knighthood to try and obtain one will prevent them from missing an entire Ranks worth of effects but do allow them to form fragment pathways and better define their abilities and specific build."
"You are not constrained by the abilities you form as Mortals. And thus, should not be constrained by the Memento Source Item that visits you in your dreams."
"Integrate whatever you want to integrate. Abilities can be changed in the future whether through the formation of fragment pathways or through enlightenment."
"Memento Source Items are powerful indeed and can offer a wide range of effects and abilities. However, require a certain kind of mindset in order to obtain. Those that continue to regret their decisions, focusing on what might have been instead of what will be, will not find Memento Source Items as forgiving."
Eis gaze swept across the crowd, sending shivers up the spines of Second Initiated and Third Initiated Mortals. Those that had continued to wait for the opportunity to obtain specific fragments rather than push themselves, physically, mentally and towards Knighthood.
Her brows narrowing almost imperceptibly before landing back on Delila.
"Memento Source Items are powerful. But your question was whether it was worth to remain a Mortal in order to obtain one. Yes, for those such as yourself, Maliq and Amadeus. No, for those that have not pushed themselves enough in pursuit of such achievement."
"That is my answer."
"Now please, follow me."
Delila, Maliq and Amadeus all shared a glance before nodding and trailing behind the figure of the White Devil Of The Ninth Circle. The words that Schwarz Eis had spoken to the crowd caused many of them to frown, glancing at each other and towards those that had not yet reached the Fourth Initiation.
Many could do nothing but watch as the three Sixth Initiated Mortals entered the Wonderous Forest Dwelling, hearing the sound of a door locking behind them. Without their figures to watch their eyes were now drawn towards the enormous figure of Song Lian Yu, gazing down upon them as though a human would look down at an ant.
Another gust of hot air shot out of his nostrils.
"Unless you have nothing better to do, I suggest you all get back to work."
"Knighthood doesn't wait for those who do not strive towards it."
