Contrary to Ronan's expectations, the arrow didn't even reach the governor. It froze in mid air, vibrating faster and faster until suddenly crunching in on itself. The explosion enchantment didn't even have a chance to activate.
The Governor smirked and stood up slowly, utterly unbothered by the fact that there was an intruder in the room intending to kill him. "A nice trick. It will never work in this room."
Ronan put the bow away, but he wasn't worried about his chances. In fact, his opponent had just given him a major clue about its defences and how he might gain the upper hand in this battle. He conjured a shortsword, but found the process slow. The mana seemed… droopy, from the moment it left his body.
He immediately let it dissipate. Something about this place was interfering with his skills and spells that required mana. The constructs, more specifically. A problem, but not one that was impossible to handle.
A full-sized spear appeared in his grip, pulled from his inventory. The governor had taken just three steps during the time it took all of that to happen, and was still observing Ronan with a playful smirk on its face and a glint in its strange eyes. It was clear that the Agrathen didn't view Ronan as a threat whatsoever.
He would need to change that.
Ronan lunged forward, activating arcane piercing strike and gust. A slight breeze hit the Agrathen in the ankle as his spear thrust for its heart—or where he hoped a heart would be. The wind was barely enough to knock it a half-step out of kilter, but that was enough to delay its reaction.
Ronan's spear struck its chest and pushed against the robe, piercing through the fabric a fraction of a second later. He activated surging strikes as the spear-tip hit its skin and began to fight against its natural defences.
With a roar, he shoved the spear and it went right through the governor's flesh and into its body. He heard a loud yell of pain but ignored it, focusing only on his weapon and the chest it was embedded in. His mana and stamina plummeted as the second, third, fourth, and fifth strikes crashed into the same spot. When the fifth spear-blow struck, the governor's body convulsed and grey and pink flesh sprayed everywhere.
Ronan had the energy for more surging strikes, but he felt a huge build-up of energy from the governor and had no desire to be caught in what was brewing. He leapt backwards, not even bothering to reclaim the spear. The shaft was almost broken anyway, and it wouldn't be of further use.
A bright white wave of energy burst out of the governor as it stumbled backwards. It rippled through the room and tore into the floor and ceiling. Rubble fell to the ground and when it struck Ronan, he was flung backwards into the wall.
The pain of smacking into the hard surface wasn't unbearable, but his vision was blurry and his mind reeled for a few seconds after he got up. When he managed to recover, the governor was nowhere to be seen.
He couldn't have gone that far in just a few seconds. Where the hell is he? Ronan's gaze darted around the room in search of his foe, but all he saw was the destruction the Governor's last attack had caused. Then he heard a familiar whining noise. There's no fucking way?
The entire room shook and trembled. The walls started to fall away, followed by the floor and ceiling. Ronan found himself falling with the rubble as the entire tower came apart at the seams. He felt a heat from below, then in front of him as he fell.
He hit the ground and immediately used magic money to protect himself from the chunks of the collapsing building. When the last piece of rubble had bounced off the shield and deducted a few more credits, Ronan looked upwards.
There was a ship flying in the air, a little larger than the one the captains had flown in. Unlike that ship, however, this one was clearly built for war. Two large cannons protruded on either side of the front of the ship and there were numerous open thrusters around it.

He barely managed to pull himself out of the pile of rubble before the first cannon blast tore through the air. Ronan rolled over a large chunk of the tower and avoided it, but couldn't avoid all the shrapnel that sprayed into the air as the energy blast blew the broken building even further apart.
He was still confused about how the governor managed to get inside the ship in just a few seconds. It had clearly been docked inside the tower, likely right underneath the room they were in. Maybe the Grathen had some kind of basic teleportation technology?
It seemed unfeasible, but this was Ronan's first time on an alien planet. He had to have an open mind. And quick reactions.
Another energy blast tore through the air towards him, but Ronan had predicted it and was already leaping out of the impact zone when it struck. He was clear of the rubble now, back on the streets of Grathamor.
The sound of yelling and a rumbling in the ground told him that the nearby citizens were already aware of the situation, and panicking. Or rushing to aid the governor in bringing him down. Whichever was the case, he needed to win this battle before he was overwhelmed.
Thankfully, Ronan had a much better idea of how to deal with ships after fighting a couple of them. He realised as he conjured a short-spear in his hand that his magical constructs were no longer suppressed. While the Governor had given itself the upper hand by entering the ship, destroying the tower had removed whatever created the suppression effect.
He levelled the spear at the ship and whipped it at full force, so hard that his arm started to tremble as the conjured weapon flew from his grip. He'd used arcane piercing strike and enchant-explosion on the conjured weapon and it soared through the air like a missile. But Ronan was just getting started.
He spun with the force of his throw, letting the momentum pull him down and to the side, spinning in a circle. As he came back around he conjured another short-spear and repeated the same application of enchant - explosion and arcane piercing strike before letting it fly.
The ship had seen the first spear throw and immediately activated its thrusters to evade. Ronan had to guess which direction it would flee in, but he'd noticed the last two times he fought against a ship that they tended to move in the direction they were leaning. Also, the energy flows inside the ship stood out to him, similar to mana.
He couldn't know for sure, but given that they'd just fired the cannon on the right of the ship he felt that was the way the governor would go. And that was where he'd thrown the second spear.
The spear struck the front of the ship with a clang, denting it and piercing right through after a half-second of pushing against the screeching metal. There was a soft pop and a subtle flash of light as it did so, followed a moment later by a muffled explosion. The ship buckled and dropped a few metres, twisting on a horizontal axis.
Ronan was shocked when it managed to stop falling and correct the tilt. So shocked that he almost forgot to dodge when it fired another energy blast at him a moment later.
Almost being the keyword. He just narrowly avoided having his left leg blasted off, the heat of the blinding white beam scorching his skin and the uniform he was wearing.
Patting the burning leg of the golden uniform out, Ronan pulled out the bow from his inventory. He'd noticed that when the ship fired that last cannon blast it dropped a few centimetres in the air and wobbled before correcting itself. Something had been damaged, but just not enough.
He was beginning to feel a great sense of disdain towards the Grathen for their over-reliance on technology. He knew that was somewhat hypocritical given that humanity had been in the same boat right up until the integration, but after tasting the power offered by the system Ronan couldn't imagine ever wanting to go back to using something as mundane as a gun. The ships were cool, but that wouldn't stop him from destroying them.
While running in a zig-zag to make it harder to hit him, Ronan started firing arrows in rapid succession. Every single one was enchanted with explosion and empowered with arcane piercing strike as it left his fingers and was sent flying.
The first two went wide as the ship activated its thrusters to avoid them, but unfortunately for the Governor it couldn't manoeuvre faster than Ronan could shoot. The third arrow found its mark, blasting another hole in the hull and knocking the ship out of flight for a few seconds.
The blast wasn't as destructive as the short-spear had been, but Ronan guessed that was due to the spear piercing the hull before exploding rather than exploding against the hull as the arrow had. His fourth also missed, but the fifth went right through the hole the spear had made, and another muffled bang came from within.
This time, when the ship fell from the sky, it didn't even make an effort to right itself. He'd taken it down, and before it even hit the ground he was running towards the impact zone to finish his opponent.
