Hollow

Author Note : The birth of Hollow & and updates for the future.

Hello, everyone.

Let's talk about where Hollow comes from. This isn't so much a peek behind the curtain of the writing process as it is a discussion of the biggest inspirations for the story and why it is how it is. There are…let's say five key things that Hollow owes most of its origin to.

The setting has been in my head for…nearly a year, by now. Like all stories not put to paper, it's mutated quite a lot over the years as I encountered other stories to crib ideas from, and few major elements have survived all that time. Firstly, the name for the story and the character's.

Character's — I'll be honest here and say outright that I am terrible with names. And most of you all would've known it by now. Hell, the main character's name is Hayate Sato. Most author's would've named their main character something catchy..I'm so bad I can't even come up with an example.. anyways, I think it sort of fits the vibe that I was going for at the start.

Hayate Sato, A normal man who got transported to the future. Doesn't that name also sound normal? Like an average person? So maybe I did something good here. Actually, I got this name from my friend's story, he occasionally writes and approximately a year ago he wrote a one-shot short story and there was a character named Hayate Sato in it.

And that's where I got the name from.

Lucifer — let's talk about his alias.

After the event's of volume 1, Hayate changes his name, i sort of wanted to represent that as a change for his character.

The human boy is mostly gone, taken over by what human's can only describe as Satan himself in the future when he is revealed to the world.

Where did I get this name from?

I occasionally play Minecraft and I have a childhood account, it's the only account I use. In its username, there is Lucifer. I won't reveal the full username of course, but I made that account when i was eight.

I really don't know what eight year old men was thinking when naming his minecraft account after a fallen angel, maybe I had seen the trailer for the Tv show Lucifer and decided to name it after him.

I'll be mentioning minecraft alot since most of this is written after my personal experience.

Angels of Hell — i have mentioned before that I am terrible with names. When I was writing volume 1, before all the rewrites I didn't know what i should name Hayate's friend group thus I asked some of my friends for their permission and decided to use the name Angels of Hell.

The author's content has been appropriated; report any instances of this story on Amazon.

This was then name of a guild my friends and I had made in a minecraft server during the lockdown in 2021.

I had obtained this name from a random website after typing "cool names for a guild."

This name has a lot of memories attached to it, I was also the leader of said Lucifer and during our prime, we had over 500 member's but then people eventually left and only the original thirteen members including me were left.

There really isn't that deep of a story for any other character name's, most of them are just taken from random sites or I make them up.

Now we can finally get into what inspired me to write Hollow.

Let's start with Overlord.

The first of those stories and events which led me to write Hollow.

I watched overlord roughly two year's ago and this is what got me into Isekai in general. It's a good series and a major inspiration, the tier system, spells, etc. I binge watched the hell out of it, but it wasn't until I read the novels a year ago that i loved it.

It was extremely fun, and they were also the first Light novel's I've ever read and I am ashamed to admit that I was missing out.

After I was done reading, since there is a lack of content i turned to fanfic's, i read a few but the one which gave me the idea to write Hollow was:

Nazarick in the real world by Darkpaladin000.

i read it on fanfiction.net and after I was done reading, it gave me an idea.

"What if Ainz Ooal Gown was transported to his version of the earth alone instead of with Nazarick? What would he do?"

I tried to write a fanfiction for this exact premise but couldn't really write anything good. Since, i wasn't educated on the cyberpunk aspect.

The fanatsy aspects were taken from these two works, what inspired the cyberpunk aspect was Cyberpunk 2077 and Blade runner. I know they sound basic but up until recently I had no interest in anything related to the cyberpunk genre, thus it's taking me some time to read the works which are hailed as the greatest in the genre and take inspiration from them and better my work.

Cyberpunk as a genre is a warning to us, a warning for a dark future which is plausible. Megacorp's, Neurochips, etc. these are all staples of the genre and thus when i first started writing and had no idea whom the main antagonist would be, i decided to go a Mega-corp which turned into the Kusonoki Conglomerate.

I really want to indulge into the corporate aspect of the story but I don't think it will happen until Book 5 atleast.

Book's 1,2 and 3 will be focused on Lucifer and this shinanigens in the future. I plan for it to be an introductory trilogy before the main plot start's.

Speaking of books, I've recently deleted all the chapters which I was going to re-write and the reason for it is simple, why not make them entirely new chapters instead of just editing them. After all, the plot in said chapters is going to be extremely different and extremely long than the original one.

Whew.

I think this cover's most of what i wanted to say.

While I'm writing this, I'm extremely sick and suffering through a sore throat, runny nose, bad fever.

The Trinity curse as i like to call it.

I'm not gonna edit this since these are my raw thoughts.

Now for the last part.

I'm working on some patreon exclusive side stories, most of them should be 20-25k words but I plan on and am currently writing a what-if which will be atleast 100k+

I don't want to spoil anything but let's just say, i plan to give Hayate Sato, yes not Lucifer but Hayate Sato a happy ending in this what if.

I think that just about covers what I wanted to talk about in this. Hopefully you…got something out of it? I don't know, I'm just sort of yapping. So let's just end it here. Thanks for reading!
