Kai Lane: Beginning

Chapter 241: What Happened on Sky Island?

After the ceremony, everyone left one by one. The deceased's friends told his or her family what had happened, saying that their loved one had died a hero. The more they revealed, the more shocked the surrounding crowd became. Unexpectedly, the Hunters attacked Sky Island with numerous Half-Step 2nd-Rank Hunters. They disrupted the Sacred Death and Life Formation and killed countless young geniuses in many cities. Just as the Hunters were about to reveal themselves, Kai broke through his limits and became a Half-Step 2nd-Rank King. Numerous battles ensued, and cultivators fought with their lives until, finally, the hunters attacked the city of Atlantia.

This was the most shocking moment for the crowd. Every Cultivator who heard this was astonished. The Second Sky War had an astonishing death toll. A total of 350,000 people died in one battle on both sides! This was not a negligible number. Many family members died in the Hunters' attacks on the cities, but the number of deaths in the war itself was significant as well. In total, more than a million young people in the Sky Islands died, and only 5,000 survived.

This heavy blow to the next generation brought with it grave problems. Each of these great families pressured the army and spoke harshly to the commander in chief. The gravity of the children's deaths should have been understood. Just because they didn't show their emotions didn't mean they didn't love their children.

Then, they learned of the hunters' deaths and their arrival at the planes. Having learned of Kai's immense power, many wondered why he wasn't there. However, they continued to wait, realizing his time hadn't yet come.

When they heard about the destruction of Sky Island, those with evil intentions sighed in pain. Their hopes were now dashed. Now, many were considering using such forbidden techniques. They realized that what they had done was truly a sacrifice. They realized the Fallen had eagerly awaited the ceremony not only for the deaths of their friends. This ceremony was for those who deserved it.

When it was finally explained that the people in the second stage were going to take the plane, everyone held their breath. It was practically impossible for a Half-Step Second Step to defeat a regular Second Step, so attacking with so many Second Steps must have definitely caused heavy losses.

But what they heard next shocked them even more. These youngsters had killed many of them, including more than twenty of the Step 2 Blue Lightning. Then, that talking kid killed two people with the Green Lightning. How could they not be surprised?!

But the biggest bombshell was Kai's battle against seven Hunters who had achieved Orange Lightning. Even though only one of their emotions had transformed into Orange Lightning, that alone made a huge difference. And being able to fight with 7 of them at the same time while being in Half Step 2.... Was this kid still human?!

They had learned that Kai's emotions had dissipated. They didn't know why, but this event was incredibly strange to them. While on the plane, they heard that Kai had lost his excitement and given hope to others. An old master then spoke up.

"Every emotion has a different underlying feeling. For example, anger is hatred, curiosity is desire, fear is determination, and excitement is hope. Because he lost his hope, he also lost his excitement. But nothing like this has ever happened to a Child of Uranus before. I'm having a hard time understanding this."

The old man's speech helped many people understand the situation better. Still, they were like the old man. They couldn't find a clear explanation either.

Those who heard that Kai cut a piece of the plane and fell from it immediately understood what had happened. Even Jack understood what was happening back then, and it wasn't difficult for those with experience to grasp.

"You were holding him back. He didn't actually fall. He jumped. He jumped to fight them elsewhere. He didn't want you to get hurt, so he pushed them away and damaged their plane so they couldn't attack you again."

That wasn't exactly what happened, either. Kai hadn't wanted to jump; his body had held him back from doing the right thing. Deep down, he wanted Jack to grab his hand and pull him back. But in his eyes, he was screaming at Jack not to save him. That's what Jack should have done in the first place.

"That's unacceptable. Even after so many people die, we learn everything when they come to the academy. I doubt the Army even knows about it! I thought it was great that Michael joined the Army because of his power, but if he's going to make mistakes like this, he needs to leave his position immediately!"

"You're right. If those kids were here now, our chances of defeating the Hunters would be much better."

"Yeah, he made us miss such an opportunity. Aaargh! I'm so angry!"

At that moment, the boy who had been explaining the topic from the beginning looked up and looked at them. He was unnerved by the presence of such important people. He began calmly.

"I think you misunderstood me. I didn't tell you this because you opposed the higher-ups. Frankly, I don't care. I just wanted to let you know. After all, it doesn't matter anymore."

Then, the young man began to walk away calmly, not looking at them.

"You don't need to worry, though. We will definitely destroy the Hunters!" the young Fallen said.

A little further away, two people listened. They were more focused on people's reactions than the story itself. They watched how people reacted.

One of them was a girl. She had short black hair. Rather than calling her beautiful, you should call her very cute. She had a casual expression and a spear on her back. She had black eyes and wore casual clothes. In her current appearance, she didn't attract much attention. It wasn't obvious that she was a Fallen. She looked more like a fifth-year student.

"Shouldn't we get involved? Things aren't going well for Michael this time."

The person next to him was a black-haired man. His hair flowed down both sides of his face, but his forehead was bare. He was taller than the girl next to him. He had a sword on his back. It didn't look like a very special sword. In truth, compared to this man's abilities, the sword wasn't special at all.

"Michael didn't send us help. He didn't care what happened to us. Don't trust him so easily. If he had sent help, Clara wouldn't be dead. Do you understand, Elena?"

These two people were Quentin and Elena. They had only come to find out about this out of curiosity. They had no purpose. Quentin certainly didn't want Elena to take action, though. Michael wasn't as innocent as he seemed. How many people had died because he didn't care about them back then? Someone had to take responsibility for this. Michael had to.

"Don't take him as an example. Just because you awakened a Supreme Potential like him thanks to Clara doesn't mean you should be like him. Be more careful, Elena. Don't trust everyone."

Like Michael, Elena had awakened a Supreme Potential alongside Clara's Awakened Potential, though no one noticed. Unlike Michael, whose awakening was due to his own pure desire, Elena's awakening was ultimately due to Clara. Ultimately, however, they were both Supreme Potentials. She was now much stronger than before. She was considered one of the top figures.

"Quentin... What do we do next?"

Elena had never been to the outside world.

There was no need to even bring it up!

Elena would follow Quentin wherever he went.

Quentin laughed helplessly. There was nothing he could do given the situation. He couldn't just send Elena away. However, he respected her decision. After she had expressed her wishes, he would give her a chance. Whether she would go or stay was his decision.

"The Academy is in very bad shape right now. It only seems strong because of Gray's immense power, but it's not. First, I'll advance to Level 2. Then, I'll become headmaster. Gray stayed here just to make the Academy appear strong. Once I reach Level 2, I'll have gained enough power to become headmaster. I'll develop the people here and give them a decent life. "If you don't want to stay with me—"

"I'll stay with you. You don't even have to ask. I'll always follow you, wherever you go," Elena said suddenly. For the first time, Quentin looked at the girl differently. Elena truly wanted to stay with him. Quentin was skeptical. If Clara had lived, would Elena have come with him?

'What are you talking about? Of course he was going to stay with her.'

Quentin turned to Elena and nodded. Elena smiled innocently, and Quentin could only bitterly sigh at last.
