The Invincible Son-in-law

Chapter 516: More Harm Than Good

When Lin Hao returned to the Su Family, Su Muyun and her sister had already gone to bed together.

Lin Hao came out after taking a shower, just about to go to bed, when he received a call from Li Jingyi.

"Lin Hao, are you asleep?"

Lin Hao replied with a smile, "Secretary Li, it's almost midnight now, don't you sleep at all?"

"What do you think about today's police murder case?" Li Jingyi asked.

"Didn't they say that woman deceived the policeman, and then that young cop went for revenge and killed the woman's family of five?" Lin Hao asked in confusion.

"I'm asking whether there might be a problem with our police force's gun control," Li Jingyi explained.

"Secretary Li, a small police officer can access firearms or receive gun bullets, I think it should be recorded, and there should be internal management regulations, there shouldn't be any illegal issues, right?" Lin Hao pondered.

"At noon we only discussed the case, just aiming to quickly catch the culprit. We didn't consider many factors involved. I'm worried that there might be management issues within the entire county's police system, which could be troublesome later." Li Jingyi said worriedly.

"Secretary Li, I think today's incident is an isolated case. Secretary Zhang Boqing, being both the Secretary of the Political and Legal Affairs Commission and the Director of the Public Security Bureau, I believe he wouldn't make any management mistakes. You don't need to worry." Lin Hao reassured her with a smile.

"Actually, Zhang Boqing's capability is undeniable, and he's mostly aligned with us when handling matters. It's just that I gave him too little time today, half of the 24-hour period has already passed, and they haven't even found a trace of the culprit..."

Li Jingyi began regretting she had set such a short deadline. If Zhang Boqing couldn't catch the suspect, the county committee and government would definitely penalize him.

Just a moment ago, after calling Zhang Boqing, she learned he's still out there searching tirelessly without any clues.

Realistically speaking, Lin Hao could imagine that such an experienced old officer, if lost in the mountains, couldn't possibly be found in just a day or two.

Luckily, he's been through a lot, and he generally knows about a cave where he eventually falls. If given a small local map, he could for sure assist Zhang Boqing.

"Secretary Li, since you gave such a short timeline, why not extend it later?" Lin Hao said slyly with a grin.

"I'm the county party secretary. I announced at the meeting that the case would be solved within 24 hours. How can I go back on my word?" Li Jingyi insisted.

Actually, she was angry during the meeting and thus demanded capturing the suspect within 24 hours. Looking back, she should've allowed Secretary Zhang ample time to avoid awkwardness later.

"Yes, yes, since you said 24 hours, it has to be 24 hours. Don't stress, believe that Secretary Zhang can handle it." Lin Hao consoled with a smile.

"You little rascal, why do I feel like you're not anxious at all?" Li Jingyi asked angrily.

"Secretary Li, capturing suspects isn't my responsibility. Why should I be anxious?" Lin Hao laughed wryly.

The case doesn't concern him, being primarily an economic vice magistrate, so he's naturally at ease.

"You rascal, though the police system isn't your jurisdiction, as the executive deputy magistrate, this police murder affects Wucheng County's reputation. If the culprit isn't caught promptly, do you think you'll have an easy time?" Li Jingyi retorted with frustration.

"I know, I know, shared reproach means shared honor," Lin Hao complained gloomily.

"Good, then quickly think of a solution for Secretary Boqing," Li Jingyi urged finally.

"Got it, I'll go over first thing in the morning." Lin Hao decided he still needed to go help Zhang Boqing.

The fact that Li Jingyi personally called him, mentioning how Zhang Boqing now somewhat supported their work by not causing obstacles, was reason enough for Lin Hao to act.

Li Jingyi didn't even know what to think; her intuition told her Lin Hao might have a way.

She always felt Lin Hao had people backing him, and they were certainly not ordinary. Otherwise, it wouldn't be such a coincidence that Zhang Yonghong, Zhou Banghuai, and Director Wang had fallen.

Since he has his own power, let him exert some effort to help Secretary Zhang Boqing.

Lin Hao wasn't in a hurry. He picked up his phone and dialed Zhang Boqing's number.

"County Magistrate Lin, why are you calling?" Zhang Boqing was pleasantly surprised.

"Secretary Boqing, are you still searching in the mountains?" Lin Hao asked with a smile.

"Yes, we've searched several mountains. Now it's a mess, and there's no sign of the culprit." Zhang Boqing explained bitterly.

"Secretary Boqing, it's already past midnight. For everyone's safety, let them find a place to rest. After dawn, I'll come over to help," Lin Hao said.

"But Secretary Li only gave me 24 hours, I'm afraid..." Zhang Boqing lamented.

"Secretary Boqing, today at the meeting, Secretary Li was just too urgent, which is why she only allowed 24 hours. I've communicated with her about this matter. Don't be hasty with the time; after all, the public security officers need rest. Moreover, in the pitch darkness at midnight, should there be any injury or accident, it would be a loss rather than gain. If Secretary Li asks, I will cover for you," Lin Hao generously promised to bear the burden.

By now, Zhang Boqing, who had been leading the team into the mountains since afternoon into the early hours, was utterly exhausted.

Fearing both not capturing the culprit and actually encountering him since the officer had a gun, which could result in grievous outcomes if his team got hurt.

Public security officers shared the same logic; no one wanted to risk their life to catch an armed criminal.

Therefore, most of them were slacking, showing only lukewarm efforts. If it weren't for Zhang personally leading, they might have already fallen apart.

At this critical moment, Lin Hao's willingness to take the responsibility moved Zhang, nearly to the point of worshiping him.

"County Magistrate Lin, will involving yourself harm you?" Zhang, being fair, worried it might impact Lin Hao.

"Secretary Boqing, it's okay. I've already discussed this with Secretary Li. Let everyone rest first, I'll be there tomorrow morning," Lin Hao explained.

"County Magistrate Lin, I really don't know how to thank you for this!" Zhang Boqing was deeply moved, nearly shedding tears.
