Detective Agency of the Bizarre

Chapter 64: The Final Layer

It's like a nearby surface. The corridors of the advanced level are dark and cold, damp and grim, and the maze-like complex resembles a labyrinth from which it is difficult to escape in a lifetime.

The Gatekeeper halted at the edge of the dim passage and retreated back to the stairs.

They would not enter the advanced level.

Lu Li withdrew his gaze, calmly landing on Claire who stood not far away, holding an oil lamp in the corridor.

"Are you sure you don't want to team up with me? The two of us could definitely suppress the advanced seniors."

Along the maze-like corridor, Lu Li held a flower pot as he followed alongside Claire. Her vibrant energy was in stark contrast with the surroundings. The same was true for Lu Li, though this aura's change was not visually perceptible.

"I won't stay in the advanced level for long."

Lu Li was essentially different from other students. He didn't need to complete heavy coursework, make friends or choose a mentor. His sole purpose at Giant Tree Academy was to learn to become a Curse Title Master.

Claire, who had already received results from her mother, said regretfully, "You'll miss a lot of interesting events and the top ten competition's..."

In fact, Lu Li had already missed a lot. He reached the advanced level in Giant Tree Academy's three-year program in just two months.

"Where's your luggage?"

"Part of it I gave to the Holy Light Squad, the rest Merchant Anthony sent back to the Land of Light."

Now, Lu Li, cloaked, only held a flower pot with budding shoots.

Due to Lu Li's reluctance to team up, Claire led him to the Hunter, or rather the Lone Ranger's residence area. Compared to the squad residence, this place was more chaotic and harsh.

Lacking the Gatekeeper's management and order, it was difficult for students who chose the Lone Ranger identity to voluntarily maintain the environment.

The residence area was like a bar filled with smoke and drunkards, bustling and chaotic. Claire found Lu Li a vacant room. It was windowless, as cramped as a hostel, barely fitting a bed, desk, and wardrobe, and was unkempt.

"One Sequence Potion to clean the room."

A shadow approached the hesitant Claire at the door, offering a price.

"No—" Claire promptly shut her mouth, looking at Lu Li.

"That's fine."

The student, delighted at securing a deal, approached. Soon, his expression turned astonished, staring in amazement at the cloak's comfortable aura.

"Kid, remember the advanced level rules, don't poke around or pry into secrets."

Claire whispered threateningly.

The student snapped back to reality, entered the room, and took a broom and clean bedding out of his backpack, indicating he hadn't been cleaning for a short time.

A senior student at Giant Tree Academy working as a cleaner might be puzzling, though they can easily secure a lucratively paid job and inner city identity if they leave before graduating. However, outside, cleaning a room won't earn a Sequence Potion.

The student adeptly cleaned the trash under the bed and cabinet, wiped the tabletop dust with a cloth, and awaited settling dust to change the bedding.

He finished cleaning the room in a few minutes, returned to the corridor, lingering voraciously around Lu Li. Before Lu Li paid, he respectfully bowed slightly, "Free of charge, it's an honor to clean your room, sir."

"He seems to have recognized you."

Watching the student walk away, Chris entered the room inspecting carefully.

Due to Lu Li's identity, people inherently formed a prejudiced misconception about him.

Most of the time, such prejudices and misconceptions are wrong, but in this case, certain coincidences actually pointed the student to the correct answer.

Lu Li placed the flower pot on the desk, drawing down his hood as Claire invited, "Do you want to watch a performance prepared for you first?"

"Prepared for me?"

...

Like an abyss in the deep sea. The cloaked figure passed through the corridor, holding fluorite or an oil lamp, resembling a grim monstrous fish picking prey.

This atmosphere, to some extent, highlighted the Lone Ranger's residence's uniqueness: a somber church and a lively bustling tavern.

Through the vaguely gathered crowd passing under the archway.

"We've arrived," Claire said.

In the center of the auditorium, a duel was ongoing, with dozens of students sparsely surrounding the scene.

One side of the duel wasn't a student. The middle-aged man toyed with his opponent like a cat with a mouse: an advanced-level student.

"You forgot what you have to do."

The student reaching for his bag halted, bewildered, pondering over the forgotten matter, until the bag snapped shut, biting his hand, waking him painfully.

"You forgot my identity."

A new whisper echoed.

"Who are you?" The slightly sober student looked dazed like a drunk, bewilderedly gazing around, "Why am I in the Colosseum?"

"This is your home."

The Colosseum seemed to transform, familiar and comforting. The student gradually relaxed, looking strangely at the middle-aged man, "Who are you...? Why are you in my home?"

"I am your father."

The previously unfamiliar man grew familiar to the student, the familial bond from blood incited his impulse, "Father..."

Amid laughter from the sidelines, the middle-aged man waved his hand, dispersing the obscure power shaped from language. The student regained clarity, showing humiliation and anger—

Lu Li could recognize the power's origin: the power from the God System of Blind Foolishness, and Divination Study skills.

"A Divination Teacher... I can't say his name. Divination Study is more sensitive to names being called." Said Claire beside the Colosseum archway.

In the duel arena, the Divination Teacher looked around the students, "I am Aldous Berg, a Divination Teacher—"

"Usually, students exchange duels here, a mentor appearing only indicates recruitment. He's after you."

The advanced level had a unique mentor system. Besides holding professor responsibilities for teaching, mentors also recruited students, letting them serve as assistants or apprentices. Students gained experience and growth, while mentors developed their own strength.

Just as Claire said, Aldous Berg began to state conditions for recruiting students.

Due to the limited number of mentors and not all mentors enjoying teaching students, many students without mentors were tempted.

"But don't worry. You've already been marked by mother, others trying to recruit will only get their heads blasted... unless you seek a mentor yourself."

Lu Li naturally wouldn't do that. As the vice principal, Professor Chris was enough to shield him from many troubles.

Leaving the duel arena, Claire returned Lu Li to his room, helplessly leaving after being refused again.

In the following days, Lu Li centered around his room, gradually exploring outward, familiarizing himself with the advanced level life, and getting accustomed to the real world no longer shielded by Giant Tree Academy.

It was hard for Lu Li to hide his identity. Or rather, approaching him made it easy to feel the vigorous vitality, leading them to "prejudice" guessing his identity.

Meanwhile, Lu Li began preparing for the final prerequisite: Mysticology Level 7.

Unlike the previous Level 6 trials, the exclusive advanced Level 7 trial was somewhat different—

It stepped into a new realm.
