Right after the first black coffin disappeared into the lake, the black boats on the lake's surface bobbed as if they were excited children, constantly spinning.
Just then, the second black coffin floated upstream and entered the lake. It glided to the center of the lake and, with a PLOP, sank as well. The black coffin continued its descent until it reached the lakebed. The two black coffins lay side by side, resting quietly on the sand and stones.
At this moment, the Golden Winged Roc and the Big Black Cat had no idea where they were. The lids of the black coffins remained tightly shut, blocking any escape.
A huge Bone Dragon covered in red fur slowly raised its head, looking at the two black coffins. A strand of eerie red flame ignited in its hollow eye sockets.
Then, the lids of both coffins slid off. The Golden Winged Roc and the Big Black Cat sat up out of their coffins simultaneously.
"What is that?"
Both of them were startled when they saw a monstrous creature covered in red fur right before their eyes.
Is this a Bone Dragon?
The Big Black Cat's eyes flashed; he recognized the creature's huge, dragon-like body. It seems there really is a Dragon Cave in this Nether Immortal Ancient Land. If there's a Dragon Cave, then an Ancient Divine Dragon must have fallen here. The fallen Divine Dragon's skeletal frame was likely contaminated by some strange power, transforming it into this terrifying, red-furred monstrosity.
Unlike the startled Golden Winged Roc, the Big Black Cat was somewhat excited. He suddenly pulled out the yellowed Ancient Dragon Cave Map and began carefully comparing it to their surroundings. Although he knew they were in grave peril and their survival was uncertain, he had never forgotten his Master's mission. Even if I die, finding a clue to the Dragon Cave would make it all worth it, the Big Black Cat thought.
The Golden Winged Roc suddenly leaped out of the black coffin, transformed back into his golden form, and prepared to flee.
However, an enormous force instantly descended upon him, rendering him immobile.
Is this the Life and Death Realm? he wondered, staring at the huge, red-furred Bone Dragon, his eyes filled with horror.
When he inadvertently turned his head, he saw the Nine-tailed Spirit Cat sitting in the coffin, holding a map and looking around. A surge of uncontrollable anger welled up in the Golden Winged Roc's heart.
"Nine-tailed Spirit Cat, you jinx! If it weren't for you pestering me, how could we have ended up in such a terrifying place?" the Golden Winged Roc rebuked angrily.
The Big Black Cat compared the map in his hands to their surroundings but found this place was quite different from what was marked on the map; there was no basis for comparison.
Hearing the Golden Winged Roc's words, the Big Black Cat glared at him irritably. "If one of us has to die, I reckon it'll be you first."
Just as he finished speaking, he saw the enormous Red-haired Bone Dragon move its head closer, as if sniffing their scent. His body was restrained by a tremendous force, leaving the Big Black Cat immobile.
However, driven by an intense desire to survive, the Big Black Cat quickly put away the Ancient Dragon Cave Map and pleaded pitifully, "Senior Dragon God, we unintentionally intruded into your sacred territory. Could you please spare our lives?"
The Red-haired Bone Dragon remained silent, as if it didn't understand his words.
The Golden Winged Roc, not to be outdone, quickly added, "Senior Dragon God, my Storage Ring is filled with various heavenly treasures! I am willing to offer them all to you. Please spare my life!"
He's even more shameless than I am! Seeing the Golden Winged Roc's brazenness, the Big Black Cat prepared to use his trump card. After all, he had a Divine Pill. He believed this Red-haired Bone Dragon would be interested in it.
However, before he could speak, he saw the Red-haired Bone Dragon open its mouth and swallow the Golden Winged Roc whole.
CRUNCH, CRUNCH!
Its huge white teeth instantly crushed the Golden Winged Roc, and it "swallowed" him. Since it was all bones, the mass of flesh that was the Golden Winged Roc slid down the Dragon Mouth and lodged somewhere in its body, then lay there motionless.
Witnessing this scene, the Big Black Cat was scared out of his wits. The Golden Winged Roc, so full of life just moments ago, had become the Red-haired Bone Dragon's dinner in the blink of an eye.
After devouring the Golden Winged Roc, the Red-haired Bone Dragon turned its gaze toward the Big Black Cat, its enormous dragon head slowly moving closer.
The Big Black Cat trembled with fear, his heart pounding as if it would leap out of his chest. He had never been so terrified in his entire life.
"Master, I'm afraid I can't complete the task you gave me!" the Big Black Cat suddenly wailed, bursting into tears.
THUD!
Just then, the Red-haired Bone Dragon gently spat out the Golden Winged Roc's Storage Ring onto the sand and stones below.
After crying for a moment, the Big Black Cat, realizing he hadn't been swallowed yet, curiously lifted his head. The Red-haired Bone Dragon was scrutinizing him, its gaze unreadable. His heart pounded wildly, and anxiety gripped him.
Has the Red-haired Bone Dragon eaten its fill? Is it going to spare my life? A myriad of thoughts surfaced in his mind.
The Red-haired Bone Dragon finally spoke, its voice ancient and raspy, "I detect the Dragon Vein Qi of the Dragon Hidden Continent in you."
Hearing these words, the Big Black Cat felt as if he were grasping at a life-saving straw and hurriedly replied, "Yes, Senior Dragon God!"
"You are the Son of Destiny, the hope of our Dragon Clan. I cannot eat you... No, I must not eat you..." The Red-haired Bone Dragon shook its head repeatedly, incessantly repeating these words. Its mind seemed to be in utter chaos, yet a particular conviction was steadily strengthening within it.
Upon hearing the Red-haired Bone Dragon's words, the Big Black Cat was both shocked and overjoyed.
Who would have thought... that the Dragon Vein Qi Master had me absorb in the Dragon Cave by entering the Covert Dragon Coffin back then would save my life today!
"Heh heh... sensing the Dragon Vein Qi within you has, against all odds, brought me a moment of clarity for the first time in millions of years." The Red-haired Bone Dragon chuckled lightly, its laughter hoarse and tinged with bitterness.
"Senior, you are from the ancient God Dragon Clan. How did you perish in the Nether Immortal Ancient Land?" the Big Black Cat summoned the courage to ask.
"Back then, my clan, the Taixu Blood Spirit Dragons, numbering hundreds of thousands, followed Lord Taixu Ancient Dragon into the Sumeru Dark Realm. We battled the invading Spirits there, and I fell in that conflict," the Red-haired Bone Dragon spoke in a deep, somber tone.
Taixu Blood Spirit Dragon? The Big Black Cat blinked; he had never heard of them. However, he was familiar with the Taixu Ancient Dragon, having heard Senior Bloody Overlord Demonic Dragon mention it as one of the Ten Super Divine Dragons. As for the so-called Sumeru Dark Realm, the Big Black Cat was utterly clueless.
However, he had managed to piece some of it together: the Senior Dragon God before him had battled with Spirits in the Sumeru Dark Realm and had fallen there.
"Too many years have passed," the Taixu Blood Spirit Dragon sighed. "This body of mine has been eroded by an eerie force and has become this ghastly form. Many memories from the past are now hazy."
An idea struck the Big Black Cat, and he quickly asked, "Senior, with your strength, why are you secluded in this lake, cultivating?"
"I don't know either," the Taixu Blood Spirit Dragon said in a hoarse voice after pondering for a moment. "It seems some unseen will has me cultivate here. Periodically, a Nether Coffin will deliver some physically powerful blood-food."
So, the coffin that brought me here was called a Nether Coffin, the Big Black Cat thought with a bitter smile, finally having some understanding of the black coffins.
"Time is short; my moment of clarity is brief... I have a favor to ask of you," the Taixu Blood Spirit Dragon suddenly said, its speech quickening.
"Senior, please ask whatever you wish! If it is within my power, I will definitely do it!" the Big Black Cat responded firmly.
"You are the Son of Destiny from the Dragon Hidden Continent. Though not of true Dragon Clan lineage, you possess Dragon Vein Qi and a physique comparable to a Divine Dragon. I wish to impart my Divine Skill—Blood Spirit Sting—to you. What do you think?" the Taixu Blood Spirit Dragon said.
