Don't Mess with That Dragon

Chapter 159: Erosion

Standing on the mountain peak, wherever the eyes could see, there were endless hills and plains, and the sights of the front ground were all encompassed.

Yet all the Dragon Nest Beastmen standing before this scene were motionless, the mountaintop rendered silent and still.

The land is being eroded!

On the Forest Land, the green mist rose like flames, spreading slowly around, where the mist passed, vast expanses of dense forest withered, giant trees decayed and fell one by one, turning the ground barren and blackened, devoid of all vitality.

From high above, blotches covered the entire land like festering wounds on the skin, eerie green mist gathered into towering columns ascending the sky, like immense smoke columns reaching for the heavens.

From the mountaintop, the gaze penetrated those rotting spots on the ground, seeing shadows wandering helplessly like puppets without strings, including both Beastmen and wild beasts, gathering aimlessly, wandering around densely, showing no signs of life.

Rodney even saw several gigantic beasts being corroded, one with half of its head already rotten, revealing a grim white skull, its movements seemed rigid, but not fallen dead. Another had its belly swollen, white ribs piercing through from the inside, thick green liquid flowing constantly...

These did not possess the fierce aura that giant beasts previously encountered had, but were filled with an eerie sense of rigidity, decay, and death.

The feeling was as though the world ahead was a paradise of wandering undead ghosts, devouring all living creatures, leaving even the fearsome giant beasts, Magic Beasts, and plants on the ground not spared.

All creatures throughout the land were reduced to puppets of rotting corpses, though a vast number of beings were still moving densely on the land, it instilled a bone-chilling cold sensation in all Beastmen, as if facing a Netherworld filled with death.

Recalling those bizarre gray apes before, perhaps they were akin to those wandering creatures on the land, originally one of their own, eroded by some eerie power that awakened them from death, reduced to puppet zombies.

Facing this vast scene, Rodney felt as if the whole world was gradually being eroded by a terrifying and strange force, not only transforming the entire land into its desired vision but also infecting living creatures to manipulate them into puppets.

Marking the boundary of this mountain range, gazing westward, colossal columns of green smoke rose to the sky, densely rotting figures continued to wander and spread across the land, carrying the seeds of green smoke, seemingly intent on infecting the entire world.

The scene ahead was already thus, then what about the farther west?

Since last year, signs had already begun to appear, how much more would the western Forest Land become eroded? Would the entire western land be practically turned into a paradise for those monsters?

"Let's go back first and report the events to His Highness Austin."

Given the current situation, even the most oblivious Beastman knew things were dire, and the only way to make a decision was after reporting to His Highness Austin.

Such an all-encompassing eroding force was truly terrifying!

...

Meanwhile, the Dragon Nest Tribe was entering a phase of fiery development.

After more than a month's sweep, centered around the Dragon Nest Tribe, various Beastman tribes within a hundred-mile radius had been conquered, numerous Beastmen became captives, integrated into the Dragon Nest Tribe and subjected to military reform training.

The tribe's population has now officially surpassed twenty thousand, with the influx of people, once training is completed, the strength of the Dragon Nest Tribe is bound to experience a new surge in growth.

During this round of sweeping, Austin not only acquired several odd items, but also boosted the number of Extraordinary Beastmen within the tribe.

Within this hundred-mile radius, there are about a hundred Beastman tribes, varying in size; while the area Austin occupies rarely produced Extraordinary Beastmen, with such a large number, some would inevitably awaken Extraordinary Seeds independently, or lucky ones having ingested Magic Fruit to tread the Extraordinary path. These Extraordinary Beastman captives were, of course, treated differently, disciplined and trained to correct their previous dispositions, before being absorbed into the Extraordinary Beastman Legion.

However, as Austin saw it, the greatest harvest from this sweeping was not the twelve thousand Beastman captives, nor those bizarre and unknown creations, nor the handful of Extraordinary Beastmen, but rather a captive old Beastman Priest from a thousand-member Beastman tribe and the yield from that tribe.

This thousand-member Beastman tribe was considered a long-standing local community, not only did the tribe possess herbal knowledge providing a considerable supplement to the medical system of the Dragon Nest Tribe, but the old Beastman Priest also held knowledge of mysterious Extraordinary Abilities, albeit incomplete, it still supplemented the Dragon Nest Tribe's current deficiency in mysteries.

This knowledge was, indeed, the most valuable treasure acquired by the Dragon Nest Tribe.

Additionally, during the conquest of that Beastman tribe, Austin discovered a new food crop – the Otherworld version of taro.

Early in the construction of the Dragon Nest Tribe, to secure enough food and establish a solid foundation for the tribe, Austin began reclamation work, leading Beastmen to cultivate kudzu and other food crops within the forest from scratch.

The primary crop cultivated was kudzu, later, to ensure food security, Austin initiated a diversified planting plan, increasing the variety of food crops; however, aside from kudzu, other collected food plants yielded extremely low, only one-tenth of kudzu, resulting in later cultivated land primarily consisting of kudzu.

Back then, even though Austin obtained a piece of taro during the attack on one tribe, with only one piece, large-scale breeding and planting were difficult, for taro cultivation to stand alongside kudzu, it would take years at least, unexpectedly now finding the origin of taro in this thousand-member tribe, allowing this year's food crop to be divided between kudzu and taro.

This sweep clearing the Beastman tribes within a hundred-mile radius indeed greatly increased the strength of the Dragon Nest Tribe, yet the surge of population brought a certain degree of trouble to the tribe.
