Qin Kun strode out of the villa complex, reaching its northern outskirts. Further north from there lay the new district Virtue City planned to develop, though nothing was visible yet.
The two men reached the wilderness, and after a brief exchange of pleasantries, they immediately got down to fighting.
A few moves in, Qin Kun's eyelids twitched slightly. He had no idea what the background of this guy was; every move, every action, was aimed at killing, each strike more ruthless than the last. It looked as if he had just come down from a battlefield, where everything he did was for more efficient killing.
Qin Kun had a very keen sense of awareness. He could sense that the opponent had a heavy murderous aura and every move was made to kill, yet there was no actual killing intent. It wasn't that he truly wanted to kill him; it was simply his style. This experience, akin to a life-and-death battle, however, stirred up Qin Kun's Battle Intent. He became more and more interested. He didn't use any Martial Techniques, relying purely on strength and hand-to-hand combat as the two engaged in a fierce fight.
Meanwhile, the petty thief who had just sneaked in hugged the wall, blending into its shadows as he moved swiftly.
He clasped his neck with one hand, his breathing becoming constricted, but he dared not let go. He'd never imagined someone would poison their own door lock, causing it to spray out the moment anyone tried to unlock it—even with a key. But upon reflection, it seemed that those using a key wouldn't get a face full of poison; it would only affect someone like him who was trying to pick the lock. He'd thought it would be an easy job, but it had turned out like this.
As he crept along in the shadows, he felt his face becoming numb. That sensation continued to spread downward from his face, and his consciousness began to blur. Eventually, he collapsed in the shadow of the wall. His face against the ground, he vaguely made out what seemed like two figures fighting in the distance, with sounds just like in a movie: BANG BANG BANG.
With one last thought flashing through his mind, the thief lay unconscious on the ground. His body blended into the shadows, and though cars occasionally passed by on the road, not a single person noticed him.
「Quite a while later」
Qin Kun stood in the distance, his blood boiling and Yang Energy circulating throughout his body. Pei Tugou's murderous aura had almost materialized. He grinned, revealing two rows of large white teeth, laughing happily. Fighting without Divine Skills, relying only on fists and feet, turned out to be more satisfying than slaughtering two people.
He gave a cupped-fist salute.
"Pei Tugou."
Qin Kun returned the gesture.
"Fuyu Mountain, Qin Kun."
The two didn't continue. If they kept fighting, one of them might get injured. This encounter was just to test the waters and size each other up.
As they walked back, passing by the wall, they both glanced at the petty thief hidden in the shadows.
Pei Tugou thought about it. He was in a good mood today, and besides, it was inappropriate to kill someone at his own doorstep. He decided to let it go, reckoning the petty thief was lucky.
"I'll leave him to you."
Pei Tugou turned and entered the villa area, disappearing from sight in just two steps.
Qin Kun approached the shadows, reached out, and dragged out someone fully clad in black with a black hood, resembling someone cosplaying a superhero. Qin Kun removed the person's hood and saw that his face was blackened; he was obviously poisoned. Moreover, he looked like a teenager, no more than seventeen or eighteen at most.
He was somewhat speechless. With this level of skill, you dare to try stealth in a place like this? A Great Killer Star lived nearby—one whose every move in a fight was a killing blow. Zhang Laoxi, who lived among them, might not have impressive Martial Training or high Cultivation, but he was more skilled with all sorts of tricks than anyone else. Then there were Wen Yan, Sparrow Cat, and Little Zombie living beside them, with several Ghosts residing further back. But then again, it made sense. Only a brazen teenager like this, a newborn calf unafraid of a tiger, would dare to try anything and everything.
Qin Kun reached out and touched the youngster's neck to confirm he wasn't dead. Looking at his youthful face, which seemed unscathed by the harshness of the world, he sighed, picked him up with one hand, and leaped into the yard.
He sensed around and found Wen Yan still sleeping soundly, breathing evenly, without any disturbance. Little Zombie, however, noticed the noise and peeked out.
Qin Kun gestured towards her. "Come, help this little brat with the poison. I have something to ask him."
Little Zombie scrunched her nose, looking rather reluctant.
"Alright then, I'll go wake Wen Yan," Qin Kun said, seeing her hesitation.
Little Zombie quickly sniffed slightly, and the Corpse Poison that had infected the young thief was drawn out. Her facial features scrunched up almost to a single point. She spat the poison onto the ground with a YUCK and whimpered softly.
Sparrow Cat, bleary-eyed and unsteady, came out and translated habitually, "She says this Corpse Poison is too low-grade and mixed with other stuff; it tastes horrible."
Qin Kun extended his hand and patted the teenager's face. "Stop pretending, get up. Don't yell—others are sleeping. And don't try to escape. If you manage to escape this time and anger someone else who decides to slaughter you, you'll have asked for it."
The youngster opened his eyes and sat up weakly. "I was just picking a lock. Is it really that big of a deal?"
"If you pick a regular resident's lock, at most they'd detain you for a few days. But if you try to pick the lock of a restricted military armory, getting shot on the spot would be perfectly justified and lawful."
"Are those the same thing?"
Qin Kun pondered. If Zhang Laoxi dared to poison his lock with something lethal, then the things he kept at home might indeed be more dangerous than common firearms and ammunition.ŸŸŸ "The principle is similar. Perhaps picking this lock here is even more serious."
