Mystic Overlord: Reading Gives Strength

Chapter 800: R'lyeh's Trump Card

Has Lamley become weaker…?

Returning to Waterfall City, Ronald walked down the street leading to the inn, and this thought couldn't help but surface in his mind.

Sedir's performance was indeed impressive today.

But based on his understanding of Lamley, the chief agent's ability should not merely be like this.

Perhaps, Lamley had some hidden tricks up his sleeve.

The earlier pursuit was simply a show for achieving other objectives?

"..."

Suddenly, Ronald stopped in his tracks.

Because standing at the entrance of the inn where he stayed, he saw a figure that shouldn't have appeared there.

——Lamley.

Ronald clearly saw this guy lead his subordinates into the woods to continue chasing Sedir. Moreover, putting aside the distance, the attire of Lamley just coming out from the inn was entirely different from the one in the woods.

One was dressed for activity and combat, while the other wore casual office attire.

Even if Lamley rushed back to Waterfall City ahead of him,

it wouldn't have been necessary to change clothes deliberately, right?

Thinking this, Ronald avoided the other's gaze, and the ability of [Greed] extended to this 'Lamley'.

——Adiwal.

——No age.

——Descendant-turned-human.

——Body in dispersed action state, Magic Power activity level rather low.

At the first moment he learned this guy's name, Ronald thought someone was impersonating Lamley.

But the subsequent information, combined with the encounter in the woods before,

made Ronald certain of some additional things.

Firstly, the name 'Lamley' was originally part of what the opposing school inherited. The contents he now probed should be the real name before inheriting this title.

Adiwal was Lamley's original name.

As for the other information——the title descendant-turned-human was likely what Lamley obtained after using the original texts.

And the body in dispersed action state…

From a literal perspective, it can be seen simply as a duplication ability. To cope with Waterfall City, or the current tense situation in Entrad, Lamley had no choice but to make such an effort to handle his work.

"..."

Ronald quietly retracted the spell.

Watching Lamley's figure leave the street, he then continued towards the inn.

Compared to the tense atmosphere in the outer areas, there was not much change at the inn. Other than a previously resigned waiter going home, everything supplies continued normally here.

Just like that, Ronald returned to his room.

Costate, who was sitting in the living room, immediately stood up to greet him upon hearing the noise:

"Sir, Lamley was just here."

Ronald waved his hand, then with Costate, approached the couch in the living room:

"Lamley…why was he here?"

"It's about our accommodation issue," Costate promptly replied, "Lamley indicated that the current situation in Waterfall City is very tense, and it's harder to manage the budget than before. So they can only cover the lodging fees up to two weeks later, though the trip fees for leaving can still be waived."

"..."

"This is a polite way of asking us to leave…"

With a relaxed demeanor, Ronald sat back on the sofa and sipped a bit of tea.

This wasn't just an excuse for him, but the situation in Entrad was indeed not ideal.

With a key policy maker absent, and the top combat power down by one person, and internal rebellions breaking out everywhere.

In such a country, it'd be unusual not to have some fiscal problems.

"Costate, in your memory, is there any school's spell that can split a person into multiple beings for separate actions?"

"Sir, not to my knowledge,"

Costate seriously pondered for two seconds, then decisively shook his head:

"But spells yielding similar effects should be achievable by three schools, involving either illusion techniques or the control of dolls that can be commanded by a Caster."

"I see." Ronald nodded in understanding.

Among those mysterious individuals Ronald knew,

Costate's knowledge base was absolutely at the highest level.

This ability, unknown even to Costate, showed that Lamley certainly had a few tricks.

Also considering the timing of events on both sides,

roughly coincided with chasing Sedir outside the city, and Lamley inside the city going to the inn to convey this request.

Ronald didn't believe this was a coincidence.

Lamley's spell for doppelganging, possibly even sharing senses or memories, was undoubtedly a rather formidable capability.

But what reaction would these doubles have if one was killed by an enemy, and what transformations would occur once all the doubles gathered?

Ronald fell into thought, his expression pensive, sensing this, Costate immediately had a feel too.

However, the maid didn't ask directly.

She thoughtfully swapped Ronald's cup with a fresh one, waiting for him to drift back from his thoughts before asking:

"Sir, did something happen earlier?"

"Exactly." Ronald promptly explained, "I just encountered Lamley both outside and inside the city; he must have mastered a spell for doppelganging."

Costate responded quickly.

As Ronald explained, she also gleaned much from the explanation.

"Oh, right, Costate."

"In the upcoming days, we might have a guest visiting, someone you are familiar with."

Momentarily stunned, Costate.

"I'm acquainted?"

In the maid's memory, the number of Entrad acquaintances she had was not many, and most had naturally aged over time.

Unexpectedly brought up by Ronald, Costate couldn't immediately respond.

Even showing an adorable expression incongruous with her usual aloof demeanor.

"Sir, I don't quite comprehend this."

"Hahah——"

Ronald was amused by Costate's expression, he chuckled before revealing the truth:

"Sedir, the girl we encountered on the train."

"Now you remember, right?"

Costate's acute mind quickly connected Ronald's mention of the name with previous information, even deducing part of the truth about the events outside the city:

"Although, I recall she wasn't a Caster."

"In the event of encountering Lamley outside, did you rescue her?"

Ronald immediately waved off the notion:

"Don't, I didn't do anything extra."

"Moreover, to think back, it's quite incredible, given where she was with us, this girl now possesses two original texts, her future looks extraordinarily promising!"

After finishing this statement, Ronald recalled Costate had read his memories.

He specifically added:

"I'm not sure about one of the texts, but the other is Capitalism!"

"..."

"That's…indeed astonishing."

Like Ronald, the maid, typically less expressive, showed an emotional reaction upon hearing the name of the original text.
