Return to the City: The Strongest King

Chapter 1465: Curable Yet Untreated (Part 2)

Song Xiaodong shrugged his shoulders and said, "You're really smart."

Yang Yushi's face flushed with a hint of red as she said, "You could even cure my weird illness; for this kind of ailment, you should have no problem."

Song Xiaodong felt a bit embarrassed, then said, "The King isn't actually sick; he's been poisoned with a very special chronic poison, which is why he's like this now."

"Ah? Poisoned?" Yang Yushi's expression changed, then her eyes shifted twice, and she said, "This must be related to royal family intrigue. If you cure him, the person who poisoned him will definitely be against us!"

Song Xiaodong raised a thumb and said, "Smart!"

"This is indeed a difficult matter. If the King dies, the country might fall into chaos because of a new King, and there might even be a coup."

Song Xiaodong said, "Yeah, we're just two people. Even if I'm strong, if a coup happens, with planes and cannons, it'll be hard for me to even protect myself, let alone protect you."

"Are you worried about my safety?" Yang Yushi suddenly showed a bright smile, squinted her eyes, being playful and cute.

Song Xiaodong's face darkened and said, "Can't you stop being so self-satisfied?"

"I'm speaking the truth, you're definitely worried because I'm a burden." Yang Yushi chuckled, "No need to deny it, I know you're afraid I won't be safe."

Song Xiaodong rolled his eyes at Yang Yushi and said, "Please have a bit of restraint, will you? We're supposed to be China's top talents, isn't this embarrassing?"

"It would be embarrassing with others, but in front of you, it's not. You're the only man I fancy, and also the only one who's seen my body. Do you think I can easily accept another man seeing my body? Even if I could, would you feel comfortable?"

Song Xiaodong rolled his eyes again and said, "Why wouldn't I? Thinking that other men's wives let me see their bodies feels like a huge advantage, I'm quite pleased."

"Pfft!" Yang Yushi gave Song Xiaodong a big eye roll and said, "Do all men think so dirtily?"

Song Xiaodong laughed and said, "It's just thinking from a different perspective; if you think like this, wouldn't you feel you've gotten an advantage too?"

"Sorry, I don't feel that way. Firstly, I haven't experienced it, and secondly, as a woman, I definitely wouldn't think like you men, always thinking of taking advantage of more women. One man we like is enough."

After a bit of banter, Yang Yushi turned the conversation back to seriousness and said, "Xiaodong, after thinking about it, this might actually be a better opportunity. If we can cure the King, although it may offend the one who poisoned him, it'll help the King, and also those who want to save him. There could be more of such people; isn't it a greater benefit?"

"There are definitely benefits, but the problem is we don't know the strength of the person who poisoned him. If they're strong, knowing we might cure the King's illness could lead them to start a coup. You have to understand a coup can cause immense chaos, even civil war, and in such situations, the ones who suffer the most are the people."

"This..." Yang Yushi hesitated.

Song Xiaodong continued, "Not treating the King could lead to peaceful change. Even if the one who poisoned him takes the throne, they'll still want to govern their own country. Short-term issues aside, eventually, they'll want stability; no ruler wants their country to be in turmoil."

"So..." Yang Yushi said, "It doesn't matter who's the King, whether it's the one who poisoned or not?"

"Pretty much, at least for us, it's not important. We can't push this country's people into turmoil for our own interests."

Yang Yushi sighed, "You're right; I should indeed act like this. But honestly, if the one who poisoned ends up getting the throne, it still makes me feel uncomfortable."

After saying this, Yang Yushi noticed Song Xiaodong was looking at her with a strange gaze and said, "Why are you looking at me like that?"

Song Xiaodong said, "When you work in the financial market, do you ever think that your decisions might cause many people to lose their jobs?"

Yang Yushi met Song Xiaodong's gaze and sighed softly, "You're right; sometimes my actions have hurt quite a few people."

Song Xiaodong said, "So I suddenly find it strange that you're showing such compassion now."

Yang Yushi said, "Do you then think I'm a villain?"

"That depends on the person and perspective. In some people's eyes, you're a villain; you caused their companies to go bankrupt, caused their unemployment. But in many people's eyes, your achievements are unreachable for countless others; you promoted survival of the fittest, bringing your family and the country many benefits."

Yang Yushi lightly shook her head and said, "You're right; it's really hard to make everything perfect. Balancing advantages and disadvantages often means making sacrifices, but..."

Yang Yushi gave a bright smile and said, "But when I'm in front of you, my mind suddenly thinks that the person harming the King is very bad."

Song Xiaodong smiled faintly; he couldn't quite understand Yang Yushi's sincerity but couldn't deny that seeing such a strong woman display vulnerability was indeed heart-stirring.

"So what do we do now?" Yang Yushi asked, seeing Song Xiaodong had no special reaction.

"I've said so much; I think Yushi, you probably have your plan?"

Yang Yushi said, "Honestly, this caught me completely off guard; the responses I prepared were all useless. But now I think we can't come here for nothing; at least we should establish friendly relations with this country."

Song Xiaodong squinted and said, "You want to choose a position? Support a King?"

Yang Yushi chuckled and said, "That's your suggestion; I don't have such ambitions. I'm just thinking of making friendships with the most likely new King."

Song Xiaodong's face darkened and said, "No need to scheme against me, but I must say, changing kings in such a monarchy is a significant matter, not something two people can change. I'm afraid there's been years of preparation for this throne contest, much like our historical Crown Prince struggles."

Yang Yushi replied seriously, "I understand that we might not change it, but surely we can analyze who's most likely to become King? If we bet correctly, the outcomes will surely be more effective than coming here later to make connections."

Song Xiaodong shook his head and said, "Don't you think gambling like this has high risks? If you bet wrong, you're making enemies."

Yang Yushi smiled slightly and said, "No, even if we bet wrong, for us, it's still possible to engage in normal diplomatic talks with this country; no one would act rashly in politics."

Song Xiaodong shrugged his shoulders and said, "I don't understand politics."
