After dealing with the two Elders from the Liu Family and the Yang Family, An Shitong also stepped forward, his gaze coldly falling on the demon and beast. It was under the order of Liu Yang that they lured the four of them to this place and set up a deadly trap. So, how could An Shitong possibly let them go?
The demon and beast, having witnessed the power and methods of An Shitong, were trembling all over with fear and kept pleading for mercy.
"Don't kill me, I was forced to do it."
"Spare me, I can recognize you as my master."
An Shitong didn't pay any attention: "Keeping you around will affect my mood, so you'd better just die." With that, An Shitong made his move, and with one sword, the demon and beast didn't even have a chance to dodge and were directly killed on the spot by An Shitong. After slaying the demon and beast, An Shitong swiftly extracted the Demon Core and Beast Cores. After doing all this, he put away his sword, cupped his fists, looked around respectfully, and said, "Senior, I hope you can show yourself."
"Senior?" The three of them, An Miaoke included, widened their eyes again, filled with numerous questions. They even somewhat believed the words of the Liu Family's Elder.
But now, hearing An Shitong calling out to the empty surroundings as 'senior,' the three of them were quite shocked, cautiously scrutinizing the surroundings, yet finding absolutely nothing.
However, soon all four of them simultaneously widened their eyes. From the void, a figure walked out. Appearing twenty-six or seven, with a slightly aloof smile on his face, he gazed at the four of them. The one who emerged was, of course, Tangyu.
Seeing Tangyu, An Shitong was momentarily stunned. In his mind, the senior who had been helping him from the shadows should have been an elder with an immortal aura, right? How could it be a handsome man who looked only a few years older than himself? What was going on? How could someone so young be possible?
With a second thought, An Shitong also understood: "It's said that powerful cultivators can even change their appearance. Perhaps this senior likes to appear young, so he deliberately changed his appearance."
Intentionally changing one's appearance involves an Illusion Technique, and does not actually change one's appearance.
To endlessly change and randomly alter one's appearance, not even those in the Zifu Realm can manage it unless they cultivate some special Spells Secret Technique to do so.
"An Shitong greets the senior. Thank you, senior, for your intervention just now that allowed us to escape danger. The great kindness and virtue of the senior, this junior will never forget. The power bestowed upon me by the senior just now has temporarily granted me the strength of the Mystic Law Realm Ninth Layer, and the senior can take back this power now." An Shitong respectfully said.
Hearing this, An Miaoke and the others finally understood what happened, realizing it was all due to the aid from the senior master before them. No wonder there were such strange events.
"Greetings, senior, and thank you for your assistance." The three of them, including An Miaoke, promptly and respectfully said. Meanwhile, An Miaoke also secretly observed Tangyu. She found this man very handsome and charming, exuding a captivating charm all over. An Miaoke was also curious if the senior master before them had consciously transformed to keep his appearance so young?
Tangyu smiled wryly, telling An Shitong, "I did endow you with a power, but this power is entirely yours now. Your realm has already advanced to the Mystic Law Realm Ninth Layer, why would I take it back? You are now at Mystic Law Realm Ninth Layer, this is your current strength."
If he really wanted to take it back, Tangyu could certainly do so, but there was completely no need. Elevating a Mystic Law Realm Second Layer to Ninth Layer was no difficult task for Tangyu, just a trivial matter. Tangyu already admired An Shitong, so naturally, he wouldn't reclaim it.
Hearing Tangyu's words, An Shitong was both shocked and delighted, being able to wield the power of the Mystic Law Realm Ninth Layer; how could he not be excited, not be pleased?
"Thank you, senior, then this junior will not be overly polite." An Shitong slightly bowed his head, revealing a somewhat straightforward character. As he spoke, An Shitong suddenly knelt in front of Tangyu, looking up with determination in his eyes, saying, "Senior, this junior has one more shameless request; I wish to take you as my master and hope senior can fulfill it. This junior's heart is set on the Dao, aspiring to cultivate to immortality and wander freely. Though this junior's talent is average, I will work hard in cultivation, using effort to make up for the lack of talent, hoping senior can accept this junior."
As he said that, An Shitong heavily kowtowed towards Tangyu.
An Shitong's actions startled the three of them, An Miaoke included. Although they hadn't seen much of the world, they knew that some senior masters detest when others forcefully kneel and seek apprenticeship. Once they offend the senior masters, the consequences could be dire. Some senior masters with ill temper might even turn hostile and kill when displeased.
Therefore, the three of them, An Miaoke included, were quite nervous for An Shitong.
Tangyu's expression suddenly darkened, and with a displeased huff, he said, "Young man, I just saved your lives because I thought it would be amusing, don't think I helped you because I admire you. Want to take me as your master? Do you think you're cut out for it?"
With Tangyu's shout, the tension among An Miaoke and the others heightened, becoming incredibly nervous.
An Shitong paused for a moment but maintained his resolute expression as he faced Tangyu, saying, "Junior is aware of being unworthy and knows that such actions might offend Senior. Yet, Junior does not wish to miss such an opportunity. It is said that opportunities must be fought for. Even if there's only a one in a ten thousand chance, Junior doesn't want to give up and desires to strive for it. Therefore, Junior dares to ask Senior to accept him as a disciple. Though Junior lacks talent, he is determined to work harder than others and invest more sweat. Hope Senior will fulfill this wish."
"Ridiculous, lacking talent, what use is persistence? You could work tirelessly your whole life, while others could achieve with ease. In this small place, your talent might be passable, but in my eyes, it's far from adequate. What use is accepting you? Don't speak further; I won't take you as a disciple. Before I get truly angry, you'd best drop this notion." Tangyu pretended to be somewhat displeased, although he was increasingly appreciative of An Shitong and merely wanted to test him further.
An Miaoke and the others were signaling to An Shitong to back down quickly, fearing that persistent pleading might truly infuriate this eminent senior and lead to disaster.
However, An Shitong paid no heed to An Miaoke and the others. His gaze remained steadfast, unwavering, and he barely showed any change in expression. He pursed his lips and once again pleaded, "Senior, for the sake of my sincerity, please grant Junior a chance."
"Give me a reason." Tangyu demanded.
An Shitong was momentarily at a loss for words. He had myriad reasons in his heart but was unsure which reason to voice.
Tangyu said, "Since you can't provide a reason yet wish to become my apprentice, why should I accept you? Repeatedly pressuring me, aren't you afraid I'll kill you in anger?"
"I believe Senior won't kill a nobody like me. Even if Senior truly wishes to kill me, I'm not afraid of death. My sole dedication is to pursue the path of cultivation; this is my singular obsession. If I cannot achieve this, I'd rather die. Being accepted as Senior's disciple would make me feel closer to that goal. Hence, Junior dares to ask." An Shitong replied.
"Fine, then die for me to see, prove you're truly unafraid of death." Tangyu retorted, pointing at An Shitong.
An Shitong hesitated slightly, a gleam of resolve flashed in his eyes. He raised his sword and actually aimed it at his own heart. An Miaoke and the others shrieked in panic at the sight: "Brother, don't—"
As the sword tip was about to pierce his chest, An Shitong found his hand frozen and unable to move, as if shackled.
Naturally, it was Tangyu's intervention that halted An Shitong. Tangyu couldn't help but smile as he approached An Shitong, "Alright, I believe you. Earlier, I intended merely to test your sincerity. Heart is paramount. Lacking talent is insignificant. What I value most is heart. I admire many aspects of you; they suit my taste. Since you are intent on becoming my disciple, I'll take you under my tutelage today."
Upon hearing this, An Shitong was overjoyed, repeatedly kowtowing to Tangyu, "Master above, this disciple An Shitong greets Master!"
He kowtowed three times before standing up, feeling elated to smoothly become an apprentice. Being under the tutelage of such an esteemed senior is truly his fortune, opportunity, and great luck.
An Miaoke and the others were also envying him. They realized that the senior was merely testing their brother earlier. Though they too wished to become Tangyu's disciples, they understood that the senior likely wouldn't consider them. Persisting would surely be counterproductive.
Thus, they abandoned the thought.
An Shitong said, "Master, I'll return home first to inform my family, and remind them as well, then depart with Master."
Tangyu waved his hand, "No need; I plan to remain in Liufeng City for the next few days; there's no rush to leave. Your Liufeng City doesn't seem peaceful; disturbances are brewing. Perhaps I can assist your An Family."
Upon hearing Tangyu's words, An Shitong was delighted; he knew that something significant was bound to occur soon. The Liu Family and Yang Family certainly have ill intentions, having already made the first move, further actions are inevitable, they won't easily desist. Thus, impending disaster lurks for the An Family, and he wasn't keen to leave now. With his master voluntarily opting to stay, moreover offering to aid the An Family directly, how could An Shitong not feel thrilled and grateful?
Such a master fills him with further admiration.
"Thank you, Master," An Shitong nodded appreciatively.
Guided by An Shitong, Tangyu followed the four back to Liufeng City. An Miaoke and the others curiously observed Tangyu along the way, albeit cautiously, fearing to offend him. Especially An Miaoke, whose conduct amused Tangyu, prompting him to smile a few times; am I really that intimidating? If you're curious, just observe openly, what's with the furtive glances as if worried I'll notice? Young girls are indeed quite amusing.
