The Last King Of Darkness

Chapter 554: Battle of the Abyss (Part 1)

The area that used to be Ash Lake has now turned into a boundless dark void.

Anna shivered: "So terrifying, it's like the Gate of Hell."

Kashan clenched her fist: "No matter what gate it is, I'm going to break it down."

The team of over two hundred people seemed smaller than ants compared to the gigantic darkness.

But the group's momentum didn't falter. Luo Wei shouted loudly, "Everyone, let's shatter this abyss-like darkness and usher in a new Epoch!"

Jelaba said gravely, "Final equipment check. No errors in protection. Visibility is very low in the Abyss; once we go down, keep in contact and don't impulsively move toward the center. The Ancient Dragon King that fell into the Abyss is nowhere to be seen."

"Remember, our main task isn't to kill the monsters but to explore the secrets of the Abyss and locate its nodes."

"Move out!"

Jelaba hoisted his massive hammer, and the Guard Knights behind him similarly lifted theirs in unison, leading the way across the boundary and stepping into the Abyss.

The group filed in, gradually disappearing into the profound darkness.

Rod deliberately stayed one step behind. Before stepping into the Abyss, he specifically instructed Rod.

"Your battle group is the only one without a Fire Mark, so you must take good care of them."

Rod nodded solemnly and followed behind Luo Wei, entering the Abyss.

The darkness immediately engulfed his eyes, and he began to fall downwards. The sight of the Eye of the Soul quickly shortened, yet it still spanned about a hundred yards.

He looked back, as if falling into a massive well, with people constantly leaping in from the well's edge—Anna, Kashan, and Mephit were behind him.

"Kashan!" he shouted.

For some reason, the panic in Kashan's heart due to the surroundings suddenly calmed.

"Rod!" She shouted back, and tears instantly filled her eyes.

"You're wearing a white dress," Rod yelled, "It doesn't go with red underwear!"

The voice traveled far through the vast Abyss. If not for the thick darkness obscuring the view, Kashan might have punched herself to death.

Boom!

A red fury erupted forth, thick as blood-like smoke swirling in a storm around her.

This was the thickest rage Rod had ever seen.

"Kashan, your Seed of Anger has grown stronger," he praised.

Anna glanced at Kashan, whose face was about to twist, and whispered, "Rod, I think you should pay attention to your own safety."

Rod replied in the same small voice, "She must learn to control the power of anger, to be calm within anger and angry within calm, only then can one truly master the Spark of Fury."

This was the standard answer given by the Divine Sense.

He had told Kashan a long time ago, but she always got lost in her fury, unable to extricate herself.

I hope she understands soon.

Rod thought with slight regret.

This is one of the only three complete names inscribed behind the Dream Tombstone.

If only I could develop a few more "Dream Envoys."

In the midst of his complex thoughts, Rod soon hit the ground, the darkness immediately engulfed him, stopping at the lightless darkness emanating from him, while the Black Fog seeped from the dark, only to be resisted by the red light of the Red Tear Stone.

Yet even under double protection, Rod's Eye of the Soul still saw a few wisps of fine, thread-like black lines. They broke through the protection and imperceptibly entered Rod's soul.

Humanity was slowly decreasing, but far from extreme.

"The pollution is very mild,"

Rod thought.

"As long as we don't stay for a long time, it's fine. Alan is truly experienced; he set a strict six clock hours combat time before departure."

He looked around, below the darkness was a barren surface, with only scattered ashes showing this used to be the Ash Lake area.

"What's going on? The surface changed? Asa, do you know what's happening here?"

Without the Book of Knowledge, Rod could only temporarily treat Asa as an encyclopedia.

Asa obviously hadn't given up on this opportunity to get closer to its master:

"Master, this is a characteristic of the Abyss. The Abyss can devour everything, transforming everything into an Abyssal form."

"Legend says the [Abyss] is one of the one hundred and seven Primordial Laws. All Abyss Monsters, Abyss Rifts, Abyss derivatives, and even the True Abyss are manifestations after its fracturing."

Rod frowned. The Primordial Laws are the foundation of the Three Realms; nothing can escape their scope.

Source Law, Strong Source, or Root Origin are all products of its fracturing.

If the [Abyss] itself is a Primordial Law, then doesn't it mean it's a legitimate existence since the beginning of creation?

Rod didn't think further. What he needed to do now was to kill as many Abyss Monsters as possible and explore the possibility of destroying this Abyss.

Star Square shows the divinity of this operation is very uncertain; it could be little, or it could be a lot.

Rod knew the reason well, this was a rare opportunity he must seize.

The view beneath the Abyss was very narrow, all teams fought in the form of battle groups. Due to the dim light and narrow sight, they had to communicate frequently to avoid getting lost. Most battle groups could only move in a huddled mass.

The Black Battle Group had to do the same, but fortunately, Rod's teammates were three girls, so squeezing together didn't feel cramped.
