A black light streaked across the sky and then firmly pierced the ground. In the explosion and high temperature, this long spear remained unchanged. Accompanying the spear's fall was a red transparent crystal the size of an adult's fist.
"Dead." El exhaled and looked at the corpse of the Giant Flame Beast lying on the ground. The headless corpse was still twitching, indicating that its nerves hadn't completely lost vitality.
Lowering his posture, El pulled out the long spear, and a chill spread from the gun barrel, calming El's intense killing intent. Shu picked up the red crystal, examined it closely, and then slipped it into a ring.
The Superpower Users who had ventured outside the city had been watching El and the others. When they saw the Giant Flame Beast suddenly stand, they shouted in shock and prepared to flee. Then they saw the scene where the beast's head exploded and it fell. At that moment, they felt their hearts skip a beat. As flames sprang from the pit, they gasped, realizing those two had slain the Giant Flame Beast and did it with ease. The long-standing legend was the beast was unbeatable, except by a large force. Yet now, those two slowly flying over had killed the beast—what was this? Fake information? Was the beast not as formidable as rumored?
Before they could fully process these swirling questions, El and Shu had already moved past them, heading straight towards the city wall. Babu and Li Xingfeng were there, and they hadn't greeted the youngsters yet. Heaven knows if they were scared by the recent scene.
After Shu and El slowly flew over, some daring Superpower Users quickly rushed to the beast to check, then returned with results: the Giant Flame Beast was indeed dead.
Cheering suddenly erupted, as the feeling of surviving death made them laugh wildly, tears streaming as they laughed. They quickly ran towards Yu'an City to bring this good news back to the city. The Beast Tide receded, the beast dead, Yu'an City's crisis thoroughly resolved. As for the lava blood in the outside pit, it can be handled later.
Roaring chants of "Long live" echoed from the city, while El and others coldly glanced at the nearly crazed Yu'an City, shook their heads, and prepared to find a place to rest.
No sooner had they walked a few steps when two figures blocked their path. It was the young man who had threatened El in the restaurant earlier, with the middle-aged man who directed the Superpower Users beside him.
Upon seeing the young man, El felt no good would come from it. He raised his chin, looked at the young man and asked, "What? Something wrong?" His spear wasn't put away, its dark barrel faintly emitting black light. An almost imperceptible killing aura radiated from him.
Shu guarded Li Xingfeng and the others, the thin thread in his hand released instantly.
"Yellow Jade, we're not here to cause trouble." Feeling El's aura, the young man hastily explained. Having seen El's methods, he didn't want to offend such a person again.
"Why are you looking for me?" El looked at the young man, doubting if his intentions were good. Perhaps aiming to exploit, though he'd expended much energy, dealing with these two would be no issue. Yet El soon looked grim; he saw a crowd appearing behind them. Alone against these two—no problem. But if the town stood against him, he'd be forced to flee.
Seeing El and the young man at odds, the middle-aged man stepped forward, showing a friendly smile, "On behalf of the city's residents, thank you for saving us." He spoke truthfully; without Shu and El killing the beast, most inside would've perished.
"Thank us?" El and Shu didn't feel they'd done any good, merely protected what's theirs.
The middle-aged man firmly nodded, then added, "We're having a celebration tonight, hope you can attend." He extended an invitation. It's clear he was much more personable than the youth.
"Oh, right, I'm Richard, this city's commander." Richard briefly introduced himself.
"Yellow Jade, Hunter. This is my partner, Jie." El casually gave Shu a fake name. If they live here, he preferred not using his real name; too risky.
The young David also stepped from behind Richard, offering a friendly smile, "Mr. Yellow Jade and Mr. Jie, please visit the Qian Yu Guild; we'd be honored."
Seeing David's smile, El felt inexplicably nauseated. Still, one doesn't hit a smiling face, so he resisted slapping David, nodded insincerely, then parted Richard and David, heading towards the crowd. El underestimated the impact of killing the Giant Flame Beast; as he and Shu neared, overwhelming cheers erupted, some rushed forward to embrace and hurl them skyward. Luckily, El and Shu knew they meant no harm; otherwise, such abrupt actions could've led them to attack.
The city resounded with cheers, while the wilderness lay in ashes, everything dark. The Giant Flame Beast's devastation left the outer city's vegetation mostly incinerated, even beasts slain by Babu and seven others reduced to ash. The beast's corpse lay solitary, devoid of vitality, previously twitching legs now rigid.
A moaning wind blew through, a lament emanated from the beast, air warped eerily, revealing five blurry figures. As distortions ceased, five figures appeared, dressed oddly with animal hides, beast bones on their heads, grasping bone staves of unknown beast's origin, each topped with a Beast Skull. Their skin somewhat dark, arms, cheeks tattooed with strange patterns, seemingly alive.
The moment these five appeared, inexplicable beast roars arose in the dead wilderness, intensifying its terror and eeriness. The five circled the beast's corpse, occasionally tapping it with their bone staves, evoking muffled thumps.
Then the middle figure, crowned with a Unicorn Skull, spoke, "Not expected to find people capable of killing a Giant Flame Beast here; seems we've miscalculated." His dry, low voice floated amid the roars.
"Indeed a miscalculation. Thought a Beast Tide could trap city folk, let the beast slaughter and yet..." Another chimed in, matching the first's dry voice.
"Let's go, next time. My kin needs a refuge." The third spoke similar in tone, "pity they've lost the beast, its Crystal Core vanished too. Looks taken."
"If gone, gone. This beast failed; else kin might've settled in this city." Watching Yu'an City with visible reluctance, he begrudged its inhabitants ruining the world instead of those in need.
"Let's go, no use staying. If those two killed the beast, they have power; we must be cautious, lest discovered." The Unicorn Skull wearer suggested, then waved his hand, air twisted, figures faded from sight.
Once these five vanished, eerie roars ceased, leaving the wilderness desolate, only the beast's lonely corpse remaining.
