Urban Soldier Young Master

Chapter 336: The Rogue Crab (Part 1)

Hearing Chu Ge say this, Qin Ruoying also laughed, "Brother-in-law, according to what you say, when I used to go to school every day, or go to extra classes on weekends, or help my mom with chores, those were all things I wanted to do but had to do. So, are they all social obligations too?"

Chu Ge laughed heartily; Qin Ruoying's analogy was indeed quite amusing.

"It seems so. Sometimes going to work is a social obligation too. I want to stay at home and rest, but I have to go to work."

Qin Ruoying laughed as well, "Isn't that right?"

Chu Ge shrugged, "The way we are now is pretty good. There are so many people who aren't as lucky as we are."

"Brother-in-law, what kind of gathering are you so looking forward to?"

"Well, an old friend I grew up with in the orphanage is getting married on Sunday. We're having a pre-gathering tomorrow. It'll be a holiday for me, and you'll have to sort out your own meals with your sister."

Qin Ruoying giggled and said, "Brother-in-law, you and my sister aren't exactly young anymore. If it were before, your kid would probably be running errands for soy sauce by now. I've been calling you brother-in-law for so long. When are you two going to get married?"

"We have our plans. Don't worry about it. We'll get married when we feel it's right."

Qin Ruoying leaned back on the sofa, flicking her slippers with her little feet, and teased, "Hey, I'm just worried about you attending an old friend's reunion. What if you run into an old flame and rekindle the romance? My sister would be in trouble then."

Chu Ge's heart was stirred, recalling the memories of Situ Ying. Unfortunately, he has had no news of her over the years. He had some fantasies about seeing Situ Ying again at Shi Tong's wedding, but so far, there has been no such news.

Though feeling a bit melancholic, Chu Ge put on a humorous face and said, "You've watched too many dramas. Why don't you say the bride could be my old flame, and I could stage a wedding crasher scene, snatching the bride in front of everyone? You just love stirring things up, don't you?"

"Hey, I'm not stirring things up. I'm just anxious for you and my sister. Oh right, brother-in-law, are you going to drive a Ferrari or a Maserati to the event? I bet your old friends will be dazzled when they see it. Just thinking about it makes me a bit excited!"

Chu Ge shook his head with a smile, "It's just a nice gathering. How come when it reaches your mouth, it turns into something else entirely? We're going there to eat and catch up, not to show off anything."

Qin Ruoying shook her head, "Alas... brother-in-law, you're just comforting yourself, right? After all, that's society for you; that's the reality. I attended a class reunion last year, and to be honest, it was particularly dull. Everyone seemed to talk about the friendship from school days, but it was actually a show-off fest. Those who had nothing to boast about had to just listen."

Chu Ge laughed silently, flicking Qin Ruoying's forehead before heading to the kitchen to cook.

He knew well that Qin Ruoying was right. He just hoped that the pure friendships of the past wouldn't change too much by then.

While washing vegetables and thinking about the plans for tomorrow night, he heard the sound of the door opening from outside, followed by Qin Ruoying's greeting.

"Sister, you're back, eh? Did you buy crabs? I remember you used to be too scared to go near those things!" Qin Ruoying sat on the sofa, looking at the net of crabs in Qin Ruojing's hand, and asked with a rather peculiar expression.

"Your brother-in-law loves them, so I bought them for him. Is he cooking now?"

Qin Ruojing took off her high heels with one hand while reaching out with the other, holding the net far away, her eyes barely daring to glance at the claws of the crabs inside. It was as if they weren't just a dish to be served but rather ticking time bombs.

Since she was little, Qin Ruojing hated crabs. Just seeing them would inexplicably annoy her, and touching them would give her goosebumps. This was the first time she'd bought such things in her life.

Though she didn't verbally thank Chu Ge, he had once saved her life, so she went out of her way to buy crabs to slightly express her feelings.

Seeing Qin Ruojing's awkward stance, avoiding the crabs in her right hand while changing shoes with her other hand, Qin Ruoying couldn't help but giggle as she stood up from the sofa, walking over to Qin Ruojing and eyeing her with a quirky look.

"What are you looking at? Never seen one before?" Of course, Qin Ruojing knew what Qin Ruoying meant, but still kept a straight face.

As if ignoring Qin Ruojing's rebuke, Qin Ruoying blinked her eyes slyly, scratched her head, "Did the sun rise from the west this morning? You actually care about people? Showing concern for your brother-in-law now?"

While talking, Qin Ruoying reached into the net and pulled out a crab, waving it in front of Qin Ruojing with a mischievous grin.

"Ah! You brat! Take it away, quick! Get it off me now!"

Due to her innate fear of crabs, Qin Ruojing shrieked when her sister teased her, her face turning pale. Her already unsteady fingers instinctively loosened, causing the net to fall, and since the mouth was not tied tightly, the crabs eagerly scrambled out.

Most of the crabs crawled onto the living room floor, though a few clung to Qin Ruojing herself.

Looking at the crabs on her body, Qin Ruojing felt her scalp tingling. She let out a few shrieks, wanting to remove the crabs but didn't dare to touch them. She shook vigorously and finally managed to shake off a few, yet one crab seemed to cling stubbornly to her leg and didn't fly off.

"Hahaha..."

Seeing Qin Ruojing so frightened by the crabs, Qin Ruoying wasn't worried about her sister at all and didn't bother with the crabs crawling all over the floor. Instead, she watched the spectacle with a gleeful expression, laughing even more happily.

In Qin Ruoying's view, they're just crabs; they couldn't really do anything to Qin Ruojing.

Considering that when the two sisters are together, she's usually the weaker one, this rare sight of panic on Qin Ruojing's usually composed face was truly delightful for Qin Ruoying to see.

Just as Qin Ruoying was laughing happily and Qin Ruojing was scared out of her wits, the crab continued to balance itself and crawl around.

"You brat! You're still laughing! Hurry up and help me get the crab off!" This time, Qin Ruojing was truly frightened; even her voice changed tone.

Seeing the path the crab was taking, Qin Ruoying felt it might have gone too far, and she stuck out her tongue. But just as she was about to help, a mischievous idea flashed in her mind, and she chuckled, saying, "With a brother-in-law here, why are you asking me?"

"You brat... Ah! Chu Ge! Chu Ge!"

At this point, Qin Ruojing couldn't care about much else, her face pale as she called out to the kitchen.

When Qin Ruojing first came into the house, Chu Ge had already heard the sisters' playful laughter, but he didn't think much of it and continued making dinner.

But when he heard Qin Ruojing calling out anxiously, he couldn't remain indifferent. He pushed open the kitchen door, responded with "Coming," and looked over at Qin Ruojing.

Upon seeing this, Chu Ge was momentarily stunned.

There was actually a pretty big crab on Qin Ruojing's leg?

While Chu Ge was still a bit dazed, Qin Ruojing hurriedly said, "Chu Ge, the crab, help me get it off, quickly."

Seeing Chu Ge, Qin Ruojing felt like she had seen a savior and quickly urged him.

"I'm coming, I'm coming."

Seeing Qin Ruojing so panicked, Chu Ge couldn't help but shake his head with amusement. He really didn't expect, considering Qin Ruojing didn't scream when nearly hit by a truck and wasn't visibly scared afterwards, that she would be this frightened by a mere crab.

With a few steps, Chu Ge walked over to Qin Ruojing and removed the crab.

Seeing Chu Ge remove the crab so easily, Qin Ruoying laughed, "Sister, look at how useless you are. Brother-in-law didn't even need a second to get the crab off."

Qin Ruojing was so irritated, she didn't bother to reply to her sister and went straight to her bedroom, slamming the door shut.

Meanwhile, having retreated to her bedroom, Qin Ruojing left Chu Ge in the living room rubbing his forehead, feeling helplessly amused. How could this have happened so coincidentally?

Thinking this over, Chu Ge gathered the crabs back into the net bag from the floor.

Qin Ruoying sat on the sofa, giggling non-stop, hitting the sofa with one hand and clutching her belly with the other as if her laughter was causing her stomach to hurt. It was just a small matter, yet it was strangely hilarious.

By the time they had dinner, Qin Ruojing was still sullen, feeling uncomfortable staying with those two. She hurriedly ate a few bites of food, took an early bath, and lay down in bed, her mind racing, ears perked, secretly listening to the noises outside.

"Brother-in-law, did you and my sister do something today I don't know about?"

Once Qin Ruojing went to the bedroom, Qin Ruoying dragged Chu Ge to sit with her on the living room sofa and asked sneakily.

"No, why do you ask?"

About the incident where he saved Qin Ruojing's life earlier in the day, Chu Ge didn't plan to tell Qin Ruoying. The incident was over, so there was no need for Qin Ruoying to feel scared on her sister's behalf.

"No way, something must've happened between you two. My sister hates crabs, yet she went out of her way to buy a bag for you today. And her gaze today was different, definitely softer, more like what you'd expect between a man and a woman."
