The Tathāgata Must Fail

Chapter 183: Irresistible Force

Sun Wukong did not know what the spread of the Heavenly Dao meant, but Emperor Yao did.

From ancient times, Venerates never allowed anyone to connect the Star Palaces together; whenever someone did, destruction ensued.

The White Robed Venerate was the only exception.

Now that Sun Wukong let the Wanling Heavenly Dao spread, the Venerates would surely sense it.

"You'd better stop it."

Emperor Yao said.

"I can't stop it."

Sun Wukong shook his head, if he could, he would rather keep a low profile.

However, the changes of the Heavenly Dao were brought about by Totems, which he couldn't control at all.

The present Heavenly Dao was spreading while being eroded by the Totems, seemingly strong on the surface but extremely fragile inside; it was unimaginable what would happen if it were forced to cease now.

"We've come this far, to not advance is to retreat."

Sun Wukong said: "If it's conspicuous, we can only speed up."

Emperor Yao slightly furrowed his brows, somewhat regretful.

But he wasn't surprised, Sun Wukong was just such an existence, and the answer was expected.

"I'll help you in the Three Realms."

Emperor Yao said: "If you're in trouble, I won't escape either."

Sun Wukong nodded: "I also need to check other places, come with me."

He took Emperor Yao and flew toward the Eastern Continent.

Emperor Yao didn't know where they were heading, flying tens of thousands of miles, when suddenly a vast ocean appeared ahead.

"This is the East Sea."

As soon as Sun Wukong spoke, an enormous explosion occurred hundreds of miles away on the sea surface.

The deafening explosion, the dazzling light filled the sea surface, followed by a myriad of light spots rising, various Totems intertwined densely.

"What's happening?"

Emperor Yao asked, frowning.

"Totems are causing trouble."

Sun Wukong replied. Although possessing the chessboard, the Totems' power was somewhat constrained.

However, as the power of the Heavenly Dao spread, the power of the Totems also increased. Small Totems in the Mortal World didn't decrease but increased, causing nations much headache.

With a glance, Sun Wukong spotted quite a few Taoists being blown away around the explosion.

Having seen that, he couldn't just stand by.

"Go!"

Sun Wukong shot out a luminous finger, splitting the sea and piercing into the group of Totems.

After a dazzling burst of light, all those Totems were caught in a big net.

The sea immediately calmed down.

Those blown-away Taoists stabilized their forms, all of them startled.

"Who is helping us?"

They looked around but failed to find Sun Wukong and Emperor Yao above the clouds.

After a moment of confusion, the Taoists flew towards the Totems and used their respective spells to collect them.

Emperor Yao noticed that these people collected unequal numbers of Totems; some with weaker Mana managed to collect more.

"How odd."

Emperor Yao said: "What spell are they using to subdue those Totems?"

"A minor spell, but it also depends on aptitude."

Sun Wukong answered.

Mortals didn't know much about Totems and couldn't brute-force subdue them; it mainly depended on aptitude. The same spell, used by different individuals, had different effects.

"What defines that aptitude?"

Emperor Yao and Sun Wukong continued eastward, asking questions along the way. He noticed that those Taoists who collected many Totems did not necessarily have good aptitudes.

"There's no way to define it yet."

Sun Wukong answered: "It's just about compatibility; Totems have their consciousness, with some people having good compatibility, some not."

Good compatibility allowed mortals to use some superior spells with Totems.

Therefore, the Mortal World hadn't been peaceful recently.

Nonetheless, the risks associated with Totems remained under control overall, and Sun Wukong wasn't too worried.

He and Emperor Yao landed on a small island in the East Sea.

"We're here."

Sun Wukong looked at the island and said: "This is the sturdiest island in the Three Realms."

This wasn't his own claim, but stated by Immortal Zhen Yuan.

This island was Immortal Zhen Yuan's latest creation, already capable of enduring much Totem disturbance, and was used for Sun Wukong's exclusive experimentation.

Emperor Yao bent down and picked up a stone.

"Indeed, this is no ordinary stone."

The stones here were different from those on other lands.

Emperor Yao surveyed the island; the aura of the entire island was different from the rest of the Three Realms, as if it had been created out of thin air, certainly not just transferred from another mountain.

"Wanling Heavenly Dao is indeed mysterious."

Emperor Yao thought to himself, then asked Sun Wukong: "What are you doing here?"

"To find the Pangu Sky Splitting Axe, I first need to make a shell."

Sun Wukong replied: "Making a shell also requires testing, this place is for that purpose."

Emperor Yao was taken aback.

"Move away a bit."

Sun Wukong said: "I tried a few days ago, and injured quite a few Immortals."

"Don't lump me with them!"

Emperor Yao was slightly dissatisfied, but still flew away from the island.

Sun Wukong smiled, then formed a Dharma Seal, emitting a brightness that made the sun seem dim.

"Go!"

Sun Wukong yelled softly, the Dharma Seal floating above the island, the entire island being imprisoned.

Thunderous roars sounded, lightning appeared in the void, space shattered, with faint light flowing out, converging toward the Dharma Seal.

"Such a strong aura."

Emperor Yao watched intently.

Yet the next second, before he could react, the Dharma Seal burst with a 'bang'.

Its explosion generated a terrifying air wave, sweeping across, toppling peaks, shattering mountains, devastating everything ruthlessly.

In an instant, the entire island disappeared.

"Still no good."

Sun Wukong floated alone on the sea surface, saying disappointedly: "This island is still too fragile."
