The Tathāgata Must Fail

Chapter 20: No End

Early morning, under the shining sunlight, the mist enshrouded earth as the floodwaters gradually receded.

A human tribe was migrating from the mountains to the plains.

"It's all good now."

They excitedly discussed as they migrated.

"The great disaster has passed, there won't be a flood for 129,000 years."

"We can establish a new homeland at the foot of the mountain!"

The tribe members were overjoyed and inspired.

At the forefront of the procession, a bird-bodied, human-faced Demon Immortal was guiding the tribe to find fertile land.

The Clan Leader was filled with gratitude.

"Great favor from the Wood Spirit, I will surely erect a statue for you!"

He said so.

The Wood Spirit had a smile plastered across his face.

He looked towards the vast plain, which was already settled by many creatures and flourishing.

Various tribes were building villages, tilling the wilderness, preparing to sow seeds, welcoming a new era.

During the migration, a beam of light flew across the sky.

"Yu Bo!"

The Wood Spirit shouted upon seeing this, and Yu Bo immediately descended.

"Where are you headed?"

The Wood Spirit asked.

"Naturally, I am seeking the Heavenly Destiny."

Yu Bo chuckled in response: "The Wind God found an Immortal Stone on the shores of the East Sea, carrying the aura of Heavenly Destiny. All the Immortals are rushing there, and it's said that the Heavenly Emperor and Nuwa have also gone."

"Immortal Stone?"

The Wood Spirit paused: "Is the Heavenly Destiny really not Fu Xi?"

"It shouldn't be."

Yu Bo nodded and said: "Your Majesty has seen Fu Xi a few times and found nothing unusual."

He bowed to the Wood Spirit, bid farewell, and flew away.

The Wood Spirit watched his back, feeling somewhat envious.

"I need to wrap up the matters here quickly and join in facing the Heavenly Destiny."

Thinking thus, the Wood Spirit was about to urge the tribe to continue moving, when suddenly a white light caught the corner of his eye.

"What's that?"

The Wood Spirit looked towards the other side of the plain, where a white line was rapidly approaching from the edge of the land.

It was an ominous sign.

On the shores of the East Sea, in the Blessed Land of Immortal Mountain, several colorful phoenixes danced around an Immortal Stone.

The Immortals gathered here, watching Nuwa examine the Immortal Stone.

"This Immortal Stone indeed carries the aura of Heavenly Destiny."

Nuwa moved her hand away from the Immortal Stone and said: "It has absorbed the Sun and Moon Essence and possesses great divine power, but unfortunately, it has not awakened for some reason."

The Immortals turned their gazes towards Sun Wukong.

After pondering for a moment, Sun Wukong made a judgment: "It is not the Heavenly Destiny."

This Immortal Stone contained extraordinary power, but he did not feel any threat from it.

"Its spiritual intelligence is depleted."

Sun Wukong declared: "This stone is form without soul; no matter how much it absorbs the essence of heaven and earth, it can't become sentient."

Nuwa had a thought: "Has someone suppressed its spiritual intelligence?"

"Most likely."

Sun Wukong nodded, his expression slightly solemn: "It must be the Heavenly Destiny."

The Immortals were shocked.

"Why would Heavenly Destiny suppress it?"

Gong Gong asked.

Sun Wukong shook his head; he was not Heavenly Destiny, so naturally, he did not know the reason.

But it's likely that Heavenly Destiny saw this Immortal Stone as a threat.

"How should we deal with the Immortal Stone?"

Nuwa inquired: "It would be a pity to ignore it."

Sun Wukong nodded.

"You should take it as a Magical Treasure."

He suggested: "It will be useful eventually."

"Indeed."

Nuwa collected the giant stone.

At that moment, a beam of light came flying rapidly from the west.

"Your, Your Majesty!"

The light crashed to the ground, revealing a panicked Wood God.

"What's wrong?"

Sun Wukong looked at his panicked expression, puzzled.

"Your Majesty, the water in the West Sea has surged violently!"

The Wood God exclaimed.

All the immortals were taken aback.

On the Western Plain, the receding flood surged violently once again.

Sun Wukong and his companions returned, glanced at the ground, saw the West Sea waters surge, covering the earth; plains and fields were submerged under the sea, rapidly swallowed by the flood.

Creatures on the plains fled to the mountain, their cries echoing through heaven and earth.

"Go and help."

At Sun Wukong's command, hundreds of immortals immediately flew to the ground and began rescuing people.

Nuwa carefully observed the floodwaters on the ground and made a judgment.

"Your Majesty, this is not a natural disaster, but a man-made calamity."

She told Sun Wukong.

Sun Wukong nodded, his expression grave: "Go find the source of the flood."

The remaining immortals immediately departed.

Soon, not only the floodwaters but also the sky to the west grew densely clouded.

The dark sky, like ink spilled across it, thunder followed one after another, and a moment later, torrential rain began to fall.

The immortals flew through the storm, searching for the source of the flood.

Eventually, the source was found in the West Sea.

"Your Majesty."

An immortal quickly returned and reported to Sun Wukong: "We found it!"

"Let's go!"

Sun Wukong led the team towards the West Sea, and shortly after, in the sea surrounded by immortals, they found the culprit causing the surge in sea water.

It was a familiar Bull Beast, supported on a single hoof, with tumultuous energy swirling around it, gathering fierce winds and torrential rains.

In the fierce sun and the clear moonlight intertwined, the storms around the Bull Beast hit the sea surface, causing the sea to surge wildly and backwash towards the distant land.

"What kind of creature is this?"

Nuwa had never seen such a creature.

But Sun Wukong knew who it was.

Looking at this familiar foe, his suspicions about Heavenly Destiny were confirmed.

The so-called Heavenly Destiny, he was all too familiar with.

"Kill this Demon Beast."

Sun Wukong ordered, and the immortals immediately unleashed their Divine Skills and Magic Artifacts, their brilliance surging like fire towards the Bull Beast.

This Bull Beast was far weaker than when Sun Wukong first encountered it.

After a bout of battle, the Bull Beast wailed as it fell.

The storm abated, and the sea returned to calm.

However, before the immortals could celebrate, another immortal flew in from the East Sea.

"Your Majesty, the East Sea has also spotted this creature."

"Go to the East Sea and eradicate it."

Sun Wukong immediately sent a group of immortals, then told the others: "The Bull Beast is surely instigated by Heavenly Destiny, find it out."

"Yes!"

The immortals dispersed to search.

But after a long search, as the rain intensified instead of abating, not only did they fail to find Heavenly Destiny, but the appearance frequency of the Bull Beast increased instead.

The rampant flood not only didn't subside, but the places it swallowed were even more numerous.

The immortals grew anxious.

"Your Majesty, what should we do?"

Gong Gong, in agitation, asked Sun Wukong.

Sun Wukong did not answer; he was looking up at the densely clouded sky, having watched it for a long time.

At this moment, he finally made up his mind.

"Come out!"

He spoke to the sky: "I see you now."

The surrounding light gradually dimmed.

No, it wasn't dimming, but being obscured.

The immortals incredulously looked towards the sky where the endless clouds rapidly gathered and transformed, morphing into a huge monster squatting in the sky under their shocked gazes.

It was enormous, blood-colored eyes looking down upon the land.

"Black Dragon."

Nuwa uttered its name.

She realized her Heavenly Destiny was not yet over.
