The Tathāgata Must Fail

Chapter 17: Donghuang Bell (Six Updates)

"Your Majesty."

The Princess looked at the Dragon King, her expression slightly puzzled: "Wasn't I on my way to find the turtle baby? How come I am here?"

"You were hit by a rock from Buzhou Mountain."

The Dragon King helped the Princess stand up and said, "You have been unconscious for a day and have just woken up."

He told the Princess that it was Sun Wukong who saved her.

"Thank you, benefactor."

The Princess thanked Sun Wukong.

She looked at him curiously, he seemed somewhat familiar, yet she could not remember where she had seen him.

"How can I not remember where I have seen such a unique immortal?"

The Princess felt a bit dazed.

"Your Highness, the Princess."

At this moment, Nuwa stepped forward with ceremonial respect: "We would like to borrow the Donghuang Bell."

"Donghuang Bell?"

The Princess immediately grew cautious.

She looked towards the Dragon King.

"A few immortals wish to borrow the Donghuang Bell to repair the Heavenly Pillar."

The Dragon King explained the reason, saying, "After all, the Donghuang Bell is under the Princess's control; whether to lend it or not is still for the Princess to decide."

The Princess understood that the Dragon King did not want her to lend it out either.

She hesitated internally, on one side was the favor of saving a life, and on the other was the life-saving treasure; if she did not give it to them, how could she ever repay this kindness?

The Princess pondered for a moment and suddenly had an idea.

"The Donghuang Bell is no ordinary item; help me with one more thing."

The Princess said, "Then I will lend the Donghuang Bell to you for two hundred years."

"Lend it for two hundred years?"

Nuwa frowned, "What about after that?"

"Aren't you trying to interrupt the Heavenly Destiny Reincarnation?"

Having heard of the promise of Sun Wukong, the Princess said, "If you can do it within two hundred years, the Donghuang Bell will be yours, forever securing the Heavenly Pillar."

Nuwa and Gong Gong had not replied yet when Sun Wukong immediately nodded.

"It's settled then, what help do you need?"

"Find my foster son."

The Princess stated.

"Foster son?"

The three were startled.

"Honestly, the Princess and I share a deep affection, yet we have never had children."

The Dragon King helplessly shook his head and sighed.

They had adopted a stray little turtle, treated it as their own son, who recently had become a teenager and mysteriously run away from home.

Previously numerous turtles had been eaten by Fu Xi, making the Princess very worried.

"If you can bring him back, I will lend the Donghuang Bell to you."

The Princess made a promise.

The three exchanged glances.

"No problem."

Sun Wukong said, "What does this turtle look like?"

"We have a portrait here."

The Dragon King immediately had a palace maid bring out a painting, depicting a green-topped turtle.

Sun Wukong was stunned, at a loss for words.

Gong Gong and Nuwa also exchanged glances, finding it both funny and awkward.

"Does it look alike?"

"Exactly the same."

The turtle in the painting was indeed the giant turtle.

"What are you talking about?"

The Princess asked, puzzled.

"We know this fellow."

Gong Gong said, "Princess, just wait for a moment, I'll go call him right away."

Both the Dragon King and the Princess were very pleased.

Gong Gong then left the Dragon Palace, but when he returned shortly after, he appeared troubled.

"Why did you come back alone?"

Sun Wukong asked, "Where is the giant turtle?"

"It ran away."

Gong Gong said distressedly, "I searched all around the seas near Buzhou Mountain, but saw no trace of it."

"Never mind."

Sun Wukong pulled out a strand of hair.

"What is this for?"

Gong Gong asked.

"I left a strand of hair on it to protect it."

Sun Wukong said, "It can lead us to it!"

He blew on the hair, and the hair transformed into a small fish, glowing with golden light, swimming towards the sea surface.

The three hurriedly followed.

Above the sea, a giant turtle was humming a tune as it swam.

"I just came out not long ago, I'm not going back yet!"

It looked up at the sky joyfully, "Fu Xi no longer seeks to kill me, the world is vast, and I'm free to roam!"

It wanted to find a place, awaken the primordial energies within its body, return to marry Nuwa, and reach the pinnacle of turtle life.

"Hehe, hehe..."

The giant turtle swam happily, suddenly a golden light appeared in front of it, which made it widen its eyes when it saw clearly.

"Cute little fellow."

The giant turtle looked at the small fish in front of it, "Do you want to roam the world with me?"

The small fish leaped up high and slapped the turtle's face with its tail.

"Why are you hitting me?"

The giant turtle was somewhat angry.

"It doesn't like turtles that run away from home."

Sun Wukong and his companions appeared in front of the giant turtle.

The turtle was startled, quickly turned around, and attempted to escape.

"Where do you think you're going!"

Sun Wukong stretched out his hand, shrank the giant turtle, and held it in his palm, "Come on, I'm taking you home."

"I won't go, won't go!"

The giant turtle struggled hard but couldn't break free.

Sun Wukong took it back to the Dragon Palace.

"My turtle baby!"

Upon seeing the giant turtle, the Princess immediately burst into tears and hugged it tightly.

"Where have you been? Mommy missed you so much!"

The giant turtle struggled hard against her chest.

"Let go, I've already told you I'm a turtle, not a tortoise!"

It shouted loudly.

Gong Gong and Nuwa exchanged glances.

This giant turtle is truly fortunate.

Sun Wukong spoke again, "Then, Princess, could you hand over the Donghuang Bell to me?"

"Okay."

The Princess was decisive this time and brought out the Donghuang Bell.

It was a large black bell, dark and seemingly unspectacular.

The Dragon King was still a bit reluctant, "We agreed on two hundred years, no more."

"Enough."

Sun Wukong reached out towards the Donghuang Bell.

The moment he touched it, the Donghuang Bell burst into a radiant light.

The brilliance was so intense that everyone could not open their eyes.

When they opened their eyes, the bell was no longer dark. Its body shimmered brightly, as if it was made from molten gold, dazzlingly brilliant.

"How could this be!"

The Princess was shocked; such a phenomenon had never occurred while they had the bell.

"You never awakened its true power."

Sun Wukong said.

He could feel the will of the Donghuang Bell, sensing its sorrow and anger.

The Donghuang Bell was originally owned by a supreme Heavenly God, and its pride would not allow it to submit to the Dragon Clan.

"Now I see."

Sun Wukong thought, the Donghuang Bell, like the Six Paths of Reincarnation, was an Immortal Artifact from before the reincarnation cycle.

"Come."

He beckoned with his hand, and the bell vibrated, flying into his palm.

The Donghuang Bell possesses intelligence; only those who dare to defy Heavenly Destiny can manipulate it.

It had been waiting, waiting for the day to break free from its shackles.

"Who exactly are you?"

The Dragon King couldn't help asking.

"He is the Heavenly Emperor."

Nuwa spoke up, "From another world."

The Dragon King was greatly shocked, his face filled with disbelief.

The Princess was staring intensely at Sun Wukong, finally recalling the scene she saw in the Underworld.

"I have seen the Heavenly Emperor!"

The Princess came to her senses and immediately bowed to Sun Wukong.

Everyone around was taken aback.

"Princess, what are you doing?"

The Dragon King asked.

"Your Majesty, I believe Lady Nuwa is not lying."

The Princess said, "He is the one chosen by the Six Paths of Reincarnation, destined to be the Heavenly Emperor in the future."

The Dragon King was even more astonished, while Nuwa looked at Sun Wukong as expected.

The position of Heavenly Emperor, aside from Sun Wukong, seemingly no one else could assume.
