The Tathāgata Must Fail

Chapter 12: This time I must win (7 updates today)

Huashan, with its thousand ren sheer cliffs, peaks pointing towards the Nine Heavens, stair-like rocks piling up layer upon layer, its momentum shoots straight into the clouds.

"Indeed a vigorous presence!"

Sun Wukong landed at the foot of the mountain, looked up, and couldn't help but praise.

On the path leading to the mountain's summit, the Heavenly Ladder Stone Stacks were connected in rings, with countless creatures sweating profusely as they walked on them, kowtowing as they moved forward.

"What are they doing?"

Sun Wukong asked curiously.

"Seeking medicine."

Fang Mountain led the way and replied, "Huashan and Tai Mountain dispense the Blood Pill Immortal Medicine to all the living in the world, capable of curing any kind of ailment for mortals."

With the great calamity starting, the world was in chaos, and naturally, there were countless wounded in need of such medicine.

After listening to Fang Mountain, Sun Wukong felt a hint of goodwill toward the two Mountain Gods.

"They are kind-hearted, perhaps they will agree to our request."

Sun Wukong said.

"I wouldn't be so sure,"

Fang Mountain shook his head: "The distribution of Blood Pill Immortal Medicine by those two goddesses is less about kindness than about competing for something."

"Competing?"

"They are constantly competing with each other, even using Immortal Medicine to do so wouldn't be surprising,"

Fang Mountain answered, "Immortal, you must not misjudge."

Sun Wukong understood.

Even so, if they would use Immortal Medicine for competition, he didn't think the Mountain Gods could be that bad.

A moment later, the two arrived at the summit of Huashan.

"We're here."

Fang Mountain looked ahead.

An ancient and dignified temple sat on the top of Huashan, complemented by several robust thousand-year-old pine trees, the sight grand and solemn.

Upon Fang Mountain's arrival, a temple acolyte noticed and stepped forward to greet him: "Mister Fang Mountain."

"I wish to see the Huashan Goddess."

Fang Mountain nodded and said, "Please introduce me."

"As you wish."

Upon receiving the order, the acolyte entered the Mountain God Temple, and after a short while, he came out and led the two into the temple.

Passing through the halls of the temple, once they reached the backyard, Sun Wukong immediately felt his eyes light up.

Behind the Mountain God Temple, there was a hidden Grotto Heaven, with verdant pine and cypresses and lush bamboos, and nestled within was a tranquil and elegant courtyard.

"Fang Mountain."

In the courtyard, the Huashan Mountain God, holding a jade fan, lay lazily on a bamboo chair and cast Fang Mountain a casual glance: "The period of Reincarnation is approaching in a few days, should you not be hiding in the mountains conserving life? What brought you here to see me?"

"Huashan Goddess."

Fang Mountain bowed and said, "I've brought an immortal to visit you."

"An immortal?"

The lady turned to look at Sun Wukong, observing him closely.

She was sizing up Sun Wukong, and Sun Wukong was also sizing her up.

This Huashan Mountain God was dressed in a flashy palace attire, partially hidden and exposed, with a slender waist that could not be grasped and bare legs, her every frown and smile brimming with allure.

Her charm seemed to radiate from her bones.

"She's somewhat similar to Daji."

Sun Wukong thought to himself and began to speak: "I have something I'd like to request from the Huashan Goddess."

"It's not so much a request."

Huashan, with her clear gaze, unaffected by her own allure, couldn't help but admire him.

She folded her jade fan and stood up to bow: "Is that Sky-reaching Golden Stick from the west yours, immortal?"

The Huashan Mountain God also witnessed the scene of Jingu Bang supporting the heavens and earth.

Sun Wukong nodded.

Huashan kept a smile at the corner of her mouth but became cautious inside: "This palace has not been feeling well and failed to greet you properly; I hope the immortal will not take offense."

Sun Wukong naturally didn't blame her; he could tell Huashan was a bit weak.

Huashan then asked, "What brings the immortal here?"

She felt unfamiliar with Sun Wukong and hoped to finish the conversation quickly and send him away.

Sun Wukong then spoke of his purpose.

Upon hearing the requirement to merge with Tai Mountain, Huashan immediately showed a look of disgust on his face.

This expression was fleeting.

"O Immortal, your divine skills are boundless, and we should comply with your request."

Huashan concealed her thoughts and said, "But I bear an ancient enmity with Tai Mountain that cannot be shared under the heavens. To merge with her is utterly impossible!"

Sun Wukong asked, "Is there no way to resolve the hostility?"

"It cannot be done."

Huashan shook her head.

"My Lady."

Fang Mountain couldn't help but interrupt, saying, "If this matter succeeds, it would merit great virtue. If both mountains merge, you would become the Buzhou Mountain God and would enjoy 129,000 years of honor."

Huashan turned to look at him but still shook her head, "Leaving aside whether it can be successful, even if it were, I absolutely refuse to share the same place with my sister, unless..."

"Unless?"

Sun Wukong caught the key point, "Unless what?"

"Unless you help me find a thousand-year-old Angelica."

Huashan answered.

Sun Wukong and Fang Mountain were both taken aback.

Why would Huashan's and Tai Mountain's dispute be related to Angelica?

"What does My Lady want the Angelica for?"

Fang Mountain asked with curiosity.

"That's none of your concern."

Huashan stroked the green silk on her head and lifted her gaze, "Whether you agree or not is up to you both."

Sun Wukong and Fang Mountain exchanged glances and, although they did not understand the reason, finding a stalk of Angelica shouldn't be a difficult task.

Both agreed.

After leaving Huashan, Fang Mountain clasped his hands towards Sun Wukong, "I will go search for the Angelica first. As for this trip to Tai Mountain..."

He took out a mountain token and handed it to Sun Wukong, saying, "With my token, you should be able to meet Tai Mountain's Lady."

Sun Wukong took the token and turned, flying towards Tai Mountain.

There, countless creatures were kneeling in front of Mountain God Temple, receiving the distribution of the Blood Elixir Immortal Medicine.

Upon his arrival, Sun Wukong presented the token, and someone led him to Tai Mountain's Mountain God.

The Mountain God of Tai Mountain resembled the Mountain God of Huashan, both with beauty capable of toppling cities, but with a petite stature and a completely different temperament.

She was draped in a flowing white silk garment, with her long hair cascading down to her ankles, holding a painted parasol, walking along the lush mountain path, her beauty ineffably pure and otherworldly.

"Are you the Immortal who upholds the heavens and the earth?"

Tai Mountain asked with a soft, crisp voice; her question was just like Huashan's.

"Yes."

Sun Wukong gazed at her retreating figure, feeling a sense of déjà vu, reminiscent of his first encounter with Ao Luan.

Sun Wukong was not a man prone to sorrow or sentimentality, but being outside the Three Realms, he would unwittingly recall the people and events within.

He dismissed these thoughts and shared his purpose with Tai Mountain.

"To save the lives of all beings, the Immortal asks for Tai Mountain's assistance; it would be difficult for me to decline."

Tai Mountain stood at the mountain peak, overseeing the distribution of the Immortal Elixir, and said, "It's just that I also require a thousand-year-old Angelica, can you bring it to me?"

Like her sister, she asked Sun Wukong to seek out Angelica for her.

Sun Wukong slightly furrowed his brow, "What does My Lady need the Angelica for?"

"Recently, I am physically frail; I need the Angelica to brew in water for nourishment."

Tai Mountain answered, her voice betraying no abnormalities.

Sun Wukong pondered for a moment, and then nodded, "If that is the case, I agree."

"Then I thank the Immortal."

Tai Mountain turned around, lifting her skirt lightly with one hand, as she gave Sun Wukong a courtesy bow.

Sun Wukong then took his leave.

Tai Mountain watched his departing figure, the corners of her mouth involuntarily curling into a slight smile.

"With the thousand-year-old Angelica, I shall surely win over my sister this time."

She thought to herself.
