The Tathāgata Must Fail

Chapter 34: The Barrier Rises

It was a sudden change.

The light abruptly dimmed, and the demons of Huaguo Mountain all couldn't help but look up.

The blazing sun seemed obscured by an invisible layer of something.

"Is it going to rain?"

The Deer Demon outside of the recommendation office got nervous: "I just bought these clothes, where can I hide from the rain here?"

"It's not rain."

The Bear Demon King looked up at the sky: "That is a Barrier."

He could feel that, in the place invisible to the eye, spiritual energy was rapidly converging into form.

In just a blink of an eye, the sky turned a vast expanse of white, as massive spiritual power transformed into a translucent water wall that slowly rose to the heavens, covering the entire Huaguo Mountain.

All the demons stared at the sky in shock.

The Deer Demon, afraid, grabbed onto the Bear Demon King: "Could it be that the Immortals are about to attack Huaguo Mountain?"

Who else but Immortals could wield such formidable power?

"It's not that."

The Bear Demon King was pleased inside, he was fond of this clever Deer Demon and wished she would get even closer.

"This is a Defense Barrier."

The Demon King comforted the Deer Demon: "It's definitely not coming to attack."

He initially suspected that the Immortals had come, but after the sunlight returned to normal, he found that this barrier posed no danger.

"What an unimaginable Daoist Skill."

The Bear Demon King lifted his head and saw two figures floating in the distant sky.

Each of them possessed a terrifying power.

"I wonder which one is the Monkey King."

The Bear Demon King thought to himself, Sun Wukong was indeed powerful.

Thankfully, he hadn't caused trouble in Huaguo Mountain, otherwise he surely would have been plucked bald by that Monkey King—although he had no idea why the Monkey King had such a peculiar hobby.

Meanwhile, Ao Luan's palace at the bottom of the sea was also enveloped by the Barrier.

Although it was only a moment of darkening, it still caused many of the newly arrived dragon descendants to panic.

"Li-little sister!"

The East Sea Princesses anxiously inquired Ao Luan: "What's this?"

"Barrier."

Before Ao Luan could respond, a young man spoke out.

The young man reached out to touch the Barrier, his hand extending through as if it met nothing.

"What a handsome Barrier."

The young man lavishly praised it, the structure of the Barrier was flawless, and he couldn't find a way to break it.

"Moang, Crown Prince." A Princess asked: "Will this Barrier harm us?"

"How could it?"

Moang chuckled: "This must be a Barrier set up by that Monkey King. Am I right, Ao Luan?"

"That's right."

Ao Luan nodded, joyfully looking at the Barrier.

"The toil of my brother for more than a decade has finally paid off."

Ao Luan knew that the establishment of this Barrier marked a whole new beginning for Huaguo Mountain.

Moang inwardly found it incredible—was the Monkey King really so formidable?

As the Crown Prince of the West Sea, originally he was somewhat reluctant when the West Sea Dragon King assigned him here.

Now it seemed, the Monkey King not only had wisdom, but his mastery of Daoist Skill also far surpassed their dragon descendants.

Moang studied the Barrier carefully for a while.

This Barrier was very complex, the more he researched, the more perplexed he became; unable to comprehend or grasp it, it seemed to be constantly changing.

But why would the Monkey King set up a Barrier without reason?

Moang asked Ao Luan: "What exactly is this Barrier for?"

"Everything."

Ao Luan replied: "It represents every possibility."

Moang smiled wryly: "Ao Luan, after twenty years, why do your words seem so difficult to understand?"

"These are the exact words of my brother."

Ao Luan smiled: "This Barrier is an infrastructure, the cornerstone of Huaguo Mountain. Once it's completed, Huaguo Mountain will undergo earth-shaking changes."

"So, this is everything!"

Moang's questions in his mind remained unanswered.

The Crown Prince of the West Sea thought for a long time: "You mean to say, demons are going to develop the Huaguo Mountain?"

He pondered back and forth, and could only think of this possibility—after all, the territory of Huaguo Mountain had never been developed.

"This is one part of the job."

Ao Luan smiled and nodded, once the Barrier was completed, the development project on Huaguo Mountain would begin.

Ao Moang couldn't help being curious: "What kind of city does the Monkey King plan to establish on Huaguo Mountain?"

"I don't know."

Ao Luan shook her head; she didn't know how Sun Wukong planned to develop Huaguo Mountain, but it seemed he had all the plans arranged.

It might not necessarily be a city.

And if it were a city, a city personally designed by Sun Wukong was sure to be beyond any other demons' imagination.

Ao Luan was filled with anticipation.

A vast Barrier enveloped the entire Huaguo Mountain. This sudden great change also caught the attention of the Heavenly Palace.

"Report!"

Thousand-mile Eye and Sharp-Hearing Ear, in a panic, found the Jade Emperor who was playing chess with Gold Star Taibai.

"Your Majesty, that Monkey King..."

"I already know!"

The Jade Emperor raised his hand to silence them, his gaze fixed on the mirror by the chessboard.

The mirror displayed the scene of the newly risen Barrier on Huaguo Mountain.

"Your Majesty."

Gold Star Taibai spoke, with his hands lowered: "That Monkey King is truly a heaven-sent genius, he really should be summoned to the Heavenly Palace."

This was the second time he made the suggestion.

Yet, the Jade Emperor seemed as if he hadn't heard, silently watching the mirror.

"A rarity under the heavens."

He thought to himself.

It was just a Barrier, but it emitted vibrations of the future that were so terrifying, they almost shattered the heavens and earth, as if vaguely shaking his Daoist rule.

Gold Star Taibai was Venus, particularly sensitive to the rarities under heaven, perhaps he had sensed it early on.

After a long contemplation, the Jade Emperor lifted his head.

He was about to speak when Tota Li Heavenly King approached.

"Your Majesty, in the Northern Continent, the Six Great Saints of the Demon World are leading a horde of demons to commit evil deeds."

He bowed and continued: "The Great Emperor Zhenyuan at the North Heaven Gate asks for a decree, to lead the Heavenly Soldiers and Generals to capture the devils!"

"What!?"

The Jade Emperor sighed.

The demons here showed no flaws, while those over there came forth willingly.

Such coincidence, it's almost like a decree of Heaven.

"Enough..."

The Jade Emperor, who rules over the Three Realms, must be just and stern—if Huaguo Mountain does no wrong, then let's see what that Monkey King is up to.

"Issue the order, hand down the decree to Great Emperor Zhenyuan to capture the devils."

The Jade Emperor commanded, and then said to Thousand-mile Eye and Sharp-Hearing Ear: "You two, continue to watch over Huaguo Mountain, do not show any negligence."

"Yes."

Thousand-mile Eye and Sharp-Hearing Ear bowed and withdrew.

The Jade Emperor sighed: "What is the capability of that Monkey King?"

He felt it strange inside; apart from the wrongness of fate, the Jade Emperor vaguely felt he should not intervene with Huaguo Mountain without good reason.

As if once he did, the Daoist rule would collapse even more severely.

What a strange matter, it seems that further investigation into that Monkey is necessary.

At Huaguo Mountain, after the initiation of the Spiritual Network, the two appeared somewhat exhausted.

"This thing really takes your life."

Immortal Zhenyuan said: "I will not do it a second time."

However, after some rest, as he looked up at the water screen in the sky, he became more and more satisfied: "Not bad, as perfect as I am!"

Sun Wukong, on the other hand, became more and more troubled.

The Barrier started up smoothly and looked beautiful, and after meticulous design, it wouldn't block out light—but there was a big problem.

This water screen was too conspicuous!

"No way."

Sun Wukong said: "I have to make the Spiritual Network transparent."
