The Tathāgata Must Fail

Chapter 297: Buddha's Pure Land

After the wedding, Sun Wukong left the Dragon Palace.

"Great Saint."

The Eastern Buddha caught up from behind.

Sun Wukong turned his head to look at him.

"Great Saint."

The Eastern Buddha smiled and said, "Could you lift that curse from back then?"

Sun Wukong rolled his eyes, knowing exactly what he was referring to.

"I can."

He nodded, "I have something I wanted to ask the Eastern Buddha about."

The Eastern Buddha grew curious, "What is it?"

"Black Lotus."

Sun Wukong told the Eastern Buddha about the Black Lotus he had encountered.

The Eastern Buddha thought for a bit and said, "I have never seen that thing."

Sun Wukong frowned slightly.

"Why not make another request?"

The Eastern Buddha continued.

Sun Wukong nodded, "In that case, Eastern Buddha, what will the Northern Continent turn into?"

The Eastern Buddha was taken aback and then bitterly smiled, "Great Saint already has an idea, so why bother asking?"

Sun Wukong shook his head.

He had an idea, but he still needed confirmation.

"Fine."

The Eastern Buddha felt this was not a secret he could hide: "Great Saint, if you lift the curse, I will tell you."

Sun Wukong nodded, arranged a time with him to lift the spell, and returned to Huaguo Mountain.

He went back to Shuilian Cave using the water route, and just as he flew out from under the bridge, he heard noises of a fight coming from outside Shuilian Cave.

"Why can't we go in!"

"Yeah, why can't we go in!"

The ones fighting seemed to be seven Spider Demons.

And contending with them was the voice of a young girl.

"This is the Great King's residence; you cannot barge in here."

It was a voice Sun Wukong did not recognize before.

He used a magic, his gaze penetrated the waterfall, and saw that outside were eight girls fighting, surrounded by many demons watching.

"Your mother just pulls the cart for the Monk; what right do you have to stop us."

The seven Spider Demons joined forces to besiege the girl but instead were suppressed by her, infuriating them to no end.

The girl remained unmoved by the Spider Demons' taunts, facing seven alone without even a trace of sweat.

"Indeed, a tiger father does not beget a dog daughter."

Sun Wukong felt some pride.

The other demons did not take action; Sun Wukong entered the cave, deciding not to bother with those Spider Demons.

It was rare for someone to teach them a lesson, and it was good for them to suffer some setbacks.

Inside Shuilian Cave, Sun Wukong saw Daji looking into a mirror, "Why didn't you return to Fox Valley?"

"Those kids dragged me over here."

Daji put down the mirror and said, "They wanted me to plead on their behalf."

But she couldn't persuade the four elder monkeys to let the Spider Demons in.

"They have an infamous reputation."

The Red Bottomed Horse Monkey served Sun Wukong some fruit wine, "Great King, is the matter at the Dragon Palace concluded?"

"Yes."

Sun Wukong nodded, "I will rest a couple of days at Huaguo Mountain."

The elder monkeys' faces lit up with joy.

"Why is the Golden Winged Great Peng's daughter here?"

Sun Wukong inquired.

The Red Bottomed Horse Monkey answered immediately, "She is Shuilian Cave's guardian."

"That person is the Golden Winged Great Peng's daughter?"

Daji looked surprised.

"You don't recognize her?"

Sun Wukong asked.

"I do not."

Daji shook her head; having been away from Huaguo Mountain for so long, of course, she didn't recognize the girl.

Sun Wukong thought the fight outside would end quickly.

But to his surprise, the Spider Demons held out until the evening, and even turned the tables, injuring the girl.

He stepped outside.

"Stop."

Sun Wukong waved his hand and caught the seven Spider Demons in his palm.

The girl knelt on the ground, a sword stuck in her body.

"You alright?"

Sun Wukong asked.

"I'm fine."

The girl shook her head.

Daji watched this scene and felt it somewhat familiar.

"Sure enough, she's the daughter of Golden Winged Great Peng."

She thought to herself.

Even the way she got hurt was exactly the same.

Sun Wukong healed the girl, then hung the seven ignorant little fellows up in the forest.

The next day, the Eastern Buddha arrived at Huaguo Mountain.

"Stop!"

A demon stopped him in the sky: "The Great Saint has ordered that no one, whoever they are, is allowed to fly around Huaguo Mountain at will."

The Eastern Buddha happily landed on the ground and took out the Human Species Bag.

"Go!"

A group of monks flew out from the Human Species Bag.

"You go find the Great Saint yourselves."

After dropping off the monks, the Eastern Buddha turned and went to Liu Fu Island.

The monks looked at each other, then followed the guidance of the demons and formed a line, heading toward Shuilian Cave.

They noticed the seven white cocoons hanging from the trees; most monks just walked past, but one monk with thick eyebrows and big eyes approached curiously.

"What are you looking at?"

A Spider Demon popped out its head.

"Amitabha Buddha."

The monk was startled and quickly turned to walk away.

"Wait!"

The Spider Demon entangled him with spider silk.

"What are you monks here for?"

The other Spider Demons also woke up.

They stared at the monk for a while, and then were surprised.

"This guy's eyebrows are fake!"

Startled, the monk struggled to free himself from the spider silk.

"Great Monk, why are you wearing fake eyebrows?"

A Spider Demon tore off his fake eyebrows with her spider silk.

"Sponsor, this is a curse."

The monk said.

"What kind of curse?"

The Spider Demons were extremely curious.

Other monks without eyebrows, with glowing heads, with grown hair, or who were even more unfortunate, seeing their comrade being toyed with by the seven demons, hurriedly increased their pace and walked past.

Inside Shuilian Cave, Sun Wukong removed the curse from each of them one by one.

He could lift the curse on everyone but was curious about the random effects of the curse, checking each one out.

Some Demon Kings were also interested and recorded these monks with the Spirit Mirror.

By evening, all the curses were lifted.

Sun Wukong found the Eastern Buddha on Liu Fu Island.

"Thanks to the Great Saint."

The Eastern Buddha, after feasting for a day, expressed his gratitude to Sun Wukong in a tavern: "The delicacies of Huaguo Mountain are indeed plenty!"

"Eastern Buddha."

Sun Wukong looked at him: "It's time you gave me the answer."

"It's simple..."

As the Eastern Buddha finished off the food on the table, he said: "The Buddha plans to transform the Northern Continent into Buddha's Pure Land, adorned with immense merit, vast and boundless."

Sun Wukong slightly frowned: "Is that truly the plan?"

"Of course."

The Eastern Buddha, satiated, patted his big belly and left the tavern.

He took out the Human Species Bag and threw it into the sky, and monks from every corner of Huaguo Mountain and the tavern flew out, getting sucked into the Human Species Bag.

"Great Saint, I take my leave."

The Eastern Buddha tied the Human Species Bag to his waist and bid farewell to Sun Wukong.

"Great King."

A Demon King following Sun Wukong couldn't help asking: "What is Buddha's Pure Land?"

Sun Wukong turned and glanced at him: "Where all beings are free from the multitude of sufferings and only experience all kinds of joy, that's what the Pure Land is, also known as the Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss."

The Demon King was momentarily startled.

"Does the world really have a Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss?"

"Maybe it's about to come into existence."

Sun Wukong said.

He returned to Shuilian Cave and gave an order: "Pass it down, from now on, the demons of Huaguo Mountain should visit the Northern Continent less often."

If Buddha's Pure Land truly becomes a reality, people who enter may never be able to leave again.
