The Tathāgata Must Fail

Chapter 290: Insignificant

Guanghan Palace, Deity of the Moon held up a teacup and passed it to the Queen Mother.

"After Chang'e left, this place has become much quieter."

The Queen Mother took the tea and said, "Even the singing and dancing are gone."

Deity of the Moon smiled: "Five hundred years are but a fleeting moment; they will eventually return."

"A fleeting moment?"

The Queen Mother looked at the tea leaves in her cup: "I feel that these years have really dragged on."

Deity of the Moon looked at the Queen Mother: "Is Your Majesty troubled by something?"

"Not at all."

The Queen Mother composed herself and said, "It's just that without His Majesty, it feels a bit lonesome."

The Deity of the Moon couldn't comment on the affairs between the Queen Mother and the Jade Emperor, so she changed the subject: "Your Majesty, what has the Great Saint been doing recently?"

"The Great Saint?"

The Queen Mother thought for a moment: "He seems to be making maps."

"Maps?"

Deity of the Moon showed surprise.

"Why do you ask about the Great Saint?"

The Queen Mother asked again.

"It is odd that the Great Saint has been here for so long but has not come to visit."

Deity of the Moon replied.

Not only her, but other Immortals also found it strange that they had not received visits from Sun Wukong.

When Sun Wukong arrived in the Eastern Continent, the Immortals thought that he would surely visit them to show off his prowess.

"I had even prepared some refreshments, yet he did not appear."

Deity of the Moon joked: "Perhaps he has forgotten about me."

"The Great Saint is busy getting to know the situation, there's no need to rush."

The Queen Mother smiled: "His Majesty in Wanling Country is also humbly learning, isn't he?"

"Even so..."

Deity of the Moon shook her head: "It still feels bizarre."

The Sun Wukong she knew was a rather enthusiastic Demon Immortal.

A century ago, when the Great Saint first arrived at the Heavenly Palace, he became chummy with the Immortals in just over ten days.

A personage like him, if willing, would certainly not fail to pay them a visit.

Perhaps, he really felt there was no need to visit anymore.

Deity of the Moon thought to herself, then dropped the subject.

At this moment, Sun Wukong was entertaining Lord Lao Zi of the Great Monad at Huaguo Mountain.

"This is a map of the Eastern Continent."

Sun Wukong handed a long map to Lord Lao Zi: "I gathered information from the Mountain Gods, and redrew it, please take a look, Lord."

Lord Lao Zi began to study the map.

The map recorded detailed topographical and geographical information of the Eastern Continent as well as the distribution of various herbs and vegetation.

It also marked some herbal medicine production areas and the cultivation plans for various spiritual mushrooms and marvelous herbs that Sun Wukong had devised.

"As for the matter of alchemy and medicine preparation, Lord is more versed in it."

Sun Wukong said: "If there are any changes to be made, please take charge, Lord."

"No..."

Lord scrutinized the map carefully and then said with a smile: "There's no need for changes."

Sun Wukong, after all, had compiled the Hundred Herbs Scripture; his plans were quite perfect.

Wanling Country already had mature methods for cultivating medicinal herbs, and transferring these methods to the Eastern Continent wouldn't be particularly difficult.

"This map is comparable to that of Lingshan."

Lord Lao Zi put away the map and said, "Great Saint, planting herbal medicines in the Eastern Continent is good, but that alone is not enough."

He asked, "How do you plan to cultivate talents and enhance the development of the Immortal Dao?"

"I'll build Immortal Literature Halls in various countries."

Sun Wukong replied: "Focusing on medical halls."

"Immortal Medical Halls?"

Lord was momentarily taken aback, then he understood.

This was a good idea. For the Eastern Continent to catch up with the development of Wanling Country, it could only focus on its distinctive industries.

"I shall assist the Great Saint."

Lord Lao Zi declared, and he established the first Immortal Medical Hall with Sun Wukong.

The first medical clinic was, of course, built on Huaguo Mountain.

Elsewhere, in Wanling Country, the Jade Emperor was still immersed in his studies as ever.

However, the arrival of Yuqing prompted him to take time out to tour Wanling Country together.

"This place is truly prosperous."

After visiting three cities, Yuqing was deeply moved.

The prosperity and advancement of Wanling City could captivate anyone who came here.

Whether they were mortals or immortals, their preconceived notions of the mortal world would be shattered by this country.

Yuqing was astounded; he had been here before, but only glanced around without truly experiencing life here.

After paying close attention for two days, Yuqing understood why immortals here had little respect for them; immortals who stayed long in this country might even look down on the Heavenly Palace.

Yuqing had to admit, Sun Wukong really led mortals down a path no one had ever envisioned.

"Just a mere century to achieve such great feats."

Yuqing couldn't help feeling sentimental: "If a thousand years go by, wouldn't the foundations of the Heavenly Palace crumble to ashes before the Great Saint?"

"This is why I am here."

The Jade Emperor was not annoyed.

Yuqing nodded, then began to calculate with his fingers.

"Ending the competition with Wanling Country sooner rather than later is advisable."

The so-called five hundred years of trial could, in fact, at this moment, already have a discernible winner.

Wanling Country had established a solid foundation, and with its unique Immortal Dao, it would be exceedingly difficult for the Heavenly Palace to win.

If the conflict continued, even a reluctant victory for the Heavenly Palace would come at a great cost and loss of support from the people.

"The greater the sacrifice, the greater the gain; the lesser the sacrifice, the lesser the gain; without sacrifice, there is no gain."

Yuqing murmured, feeling somewhat wistful.

The Jade Emperor's choice was the right one; the Heavenly Palace simply couldn't win over the hearts of the people compared to Wanling Country.

Their best course of action was to reconcile with Wanling Country.

However, the analysis was simple; giving up their venerable position and choosing coexistence was a choice that meant sacrificing dignity for the Jade Emperor.

"Your Majesty, you actually..."

Yuqing paused halfway through his remark.

He thought the Jade Emperor could afford to be more headstrong and not have to degrade himself like this.

"I have already missed one opportunity."

The Jade Emperor knew what Yuqing was going to say.

He shook his head: "The Imperial Brother has always been pure at heart; I cannot afford to lose to him again."

He looked ahead, where the streets were filled with spiritual objects and technologies beyond imagination.

Flying cars, flying boats, self-cleaning brooms, complex and efficient Immortal Text networks.

"This competition, no matter who wins, is a blessing for the Three Realms."

The Jade Emperor said.

In Wanling Country, he saw mortals well-fed and happy, witnessed their smiles.

Wanling Country was on the right path.

The Jade Emperor was becoming more and more convinced of this.

Yuqing, watching the Jade Emperor, also gradually revealed a smile.

"Sun Wukong..."

He whispered the name to himself.

Perhaps in less than a hundred years, the Three Thousand Immortal Paths could merge into one with Wanling Country.

Then they would have two supreme beings of the Three Realms, no matter who were the primary and the secondary...

"The Three Realms will undergo a great change."

Yuqing thought to himself.

He is one of The Three Pure Ones, in charge of the moral guidance of the Three Realms, and it's time to change his perspective, not to cling to the past any longer.

"Your Majesty, I will study along with you."

Yuqing said to the Jade Emperor.

All past grudges and conflicts, at this moment, became insignificant in his heart.
