The Tathāgata Must Fail

Chapter 284: I Am the Immortal Dao

That day, all Demon Kings came to Shuilian Cave to pay their respects to Sun Wukong.

If one doesn't count the time Wu Xing returned, it had been over a hundred years since Sun Wukong had left Huaguo Mountain.

The Demon Kings were thrilled, and they stayed in Shuilian Cave until late at night before gradually dispersing.

The very next morning, Sun Wukong was awakened by the bustling noise.

"Why is it so noisy outside?"

He asked as he got up.

"Hearing that Great King has returned, all the little demons have rushed over."

The Long Armed Ape Monkey spoke, "I'll go drive them away right now."

"No need."

After washing up, Sun Wukong walked out of Shuilian Cave.

"Great King, our living Great King!"

As soon as he stepped out, he heard countless cries.

Sun Wukong looked around and saw that the nearby forests, cliffs, and even the sky were packed with dense crowds of demons.

Many demons that couldn't fly, because they couldn't grab a spot, sat on their flying comrades and looked over from the sky.

The larger demons from Huaguo Mountain had all gone to Wanling Country, so the ones Sun Wukong saw were mostly smaller demons.

With one glance, he saw that there were even more small demons than there were a hundred years ago.

"How come there are so many small demons."

Sun Wukong was filled with joy.

"Spiritual Network can awaken intelligence."

Said the Long Armed Ape Monkey following behind him: "All thanks to the Great King's foresight from those days."

As the first place that established the Spiritual Network and preserved the Sun and Moon Essence, Huaguo Mountain saw an increased number of enlightened demons.

Sun Wukong felt pleasantly surprised.

A little lion suddenly fell from the sky with a squeak and Sun Wukong stretched out his hand to catch it.

"Little guy, be careful."

He scolded it with a smile.

The little lion was stunned for a moment, then unafraid of strangers, it started rubbing against Sun Wukong's hand with its tail wagging.

Sun Wukong was amused and laughed heartily.

"Come."

He suddenly beckoned, and after a gust of wind, the masses of little demons scattered across the mountain and field became ant-sized and were gathered into his palm.

"Where did the Great King go? Where did the Great King go?"

The little demons crowded together in Sun Wukong's hand.

Sun Wukong, smiling, sat on the ground and began to play with them with his fingers.

The little demons, realizing he became so big, couldn't help but exclaim aloud.

They climbed all over Sun Wukong's body, playing gleefully.

"Great King, Great King."

A few Monkey Spirits climbed onto Sun Wukong's shoulder and asked, "They all say the Great King is a hero; are you a hero?"

"Perhaps, you could say that."

Sun Wukong answered.

He didn't consider himself a hero, but perhaps that was close enough.

Having not played with the little demons for a long time, Sun Wukong found it very refreshing.

After playing for a while, a Heavenly General descended from the sky.

"Great Saint."

The Heavenly General landed in front of Sun Wukong and said with a bow, "Four disciples from the Heavenly Master Sect have come to invite the Great Saint to the Three Thousand Immortal Paths."

"I'm not free today."

Sun Wukong said, "Tell them to come find me tomorrow."

The Heavenly General was startled.

"Great King, is he an Immortal?"

Some small demons curiously looked at the Heavenly General.

"Yes, haven't you seen one before?"

Sun Wukong teased the little guys with his finger.

"We have!"

The little demons chattered excitedly: "But we haven't seen ones in armor."

"We've seen some wearing Daoist robes."

"They were causing trouble in Huaguo Mountain and were chased away by Uncle Golden Bird."

"Golden Bird?"

Sun Wukong thought for a moment, it must have been the Golden Winged Great Peng.

That fellow got drunk by him last night and was probably still sleeping now.

He looked towards the Heavenly General.

The Heavenly General wiped his sweat: "That was a misunderstanding."

Twenty years ago, indeed, there was a group of Immortal Dao Disciples who didn't know their limits and caused trouble, but they were chased away by the Golden Winged Great Peng.

Sun Wukong slightly furrowed his brows.

"Great King, Great King."

The little demons continued to speak: "Those guys were too much!"

"How so?"

Sun Wukong looked at them.

"They were flying around in the sky that day and even threw things down."

The little demons said: "Many of our companions were hit."

Sun Wukong's face darkened.

"Gr- Great Saint…"

Seeing that the situation was not good, the Heavenly General quickly said: "We have already disciplined those disciples, and also apologized to Miss Jade-faced Fox."

Sun Wukong turned back to look at the Long Armed Ape Monkey.

The old monkey nodded: "This was a misunderstanding, I'll explain to the Great King in a bit."

Sun Wukong's expression slightly relaxed, then he said to the Heavenly General: "Go back and convey my message to Her Majesty, from now on, any Immortal visiting Huaguo Mountain must nicely walk on the ground."

"This…"

The Heavenly General was taken aback; he had no right to relay messages to the Queen Mother.

"Is there a problem?"

Sun Wukong asked again.

"No, there's none."

The Heavenly General immediately bowed and took his leave.

By the decree of the Heavenly Venerate, he dared not complain.

After the Heavenly General had left.

"Great King is so impressive!"

The little demons again swarmed around Sun Wukong.

After playing with the little demons, it was already noon, and Sun Wukong ate lunch, planning to find the Jade-faced Fox to understand the situation in Huaguo Mountain.

On the way to Yunxiao City, he heard cheers coming from a valley.

Sun Wukong looked over there and saw foxes of various colors, as well as some raccoon-like small demons, now densely kneeling on the ground, paying homage to one person.

Their object of worship was none other than Daji.

She stood in the midst of the demon crowd with a crown on her head, her nine tails swaying, seemingly quite happy.

"What's going on?"

Sun Wukong inquired the Long Armed Ape Monkey behind him.

"Miss Daji has attained an Immortal Body, she has to take the Demon King position whether she wants to or not."

The Long Armed Ape Monkey answered.

Daji's identity within the Fox Clan was special; she originally possessed enough strength to take up the position of the Fox King, but it was due to her unreliable nature that other Fox Demons took over the Demon King position.

But at this moment, Daji had become an Immortal, and moreover, the only Immortal among the Fox Demons.

Naturally, that Demon King position had to be given to her.

"The throne can be given to her, but you need to arrange some deputies to handle the affairs of the Fox Clan."

Sun Wukong said: "I have other uses for Daji."

"Rest assured, Great King."

The Long Armed Ape Monkey nodded: "Miss Daji has a carefree nature even if you ask her to be king, she won't sit still."

Sun Wukong looked on for a while longer, thinking Daji would surely tire of it soon.

Power was not what Daji was interested in; her position in Wanling Country far exceeded that of a mere Demon King.

He arrived in Yunxiao City and learned about the situation in Huaguo Mountain from the Jade-faced Fox.

Huaguo Mountain had not progressed much in the past hundred years, but everything that Wanling Country had, was now also present here, including the establishment of the Immortal Language Academy.

Even the Spiritual Network of Huaguo Mountain was upgraded and transformed thirty years ago.

Leaving Yunxiao City, Sun Wukong first checked the Spiritual Network.

Every node of Huaguo Mountain now had a Wanling Tree.

"Go."

Upon seeing the first Wanling Tree, Sun Wukong waved his hand, shattering the Wanling Tree.

"Great King."

The Long Armed Ape Monkey looked at his actions in shock.

"There's no harm; here, I am the Wanling Immortal Path."

Sun Wukong said.

The Wanling Trees were substitutes during his slumber, and now that he had awakened, they were naturally unnecessary.
