The Tathāgata Must Fail

Chapter 281: Endless Horizon (End of this Volume)

People looked up at the sky in awe.

The sky, as if rippling with layers of waves.

Those were all Spiritual Energy.

The consciousness of the Spiritual Network that was accepting the contract.

The White Dragon in the sky voiced the contract Sun Wukong wished to fulfill.

The Spiritual Energy of the South Sea region jubilantly accepted that supreme contract, welcoming the newfound freedom, and rapidly spread, diffusing throughout the entire continent.

The Jade Emperor gazed skyward, extending his hand as several particles of condensed Spiritual Energy brilliance fell upon it.

The terms of the contract proposed by Ao Luan were transmitted to him.

The contract was so simple; she merely wished for the Spiritual Network to be uncontrolled by any individual or power.

The Spiritual Network belonged to all beings of the Southern Continent.

After the contract took shape, the colossal Wanling Tree began to disappear.

Not just it, but all of the Wanling Trees of the Southern Continent vanished simultaneously.

The free Spiritual Network no longer needed a physical anchor.

Yet during this process, the Jade Seal within the Jade Emperor began to dim.

His control over the Southern Continent started to weaken.

The Jade Emperor understood that even if the restrictions were lifted in the future, he would no longer possess that supreme authority over all things.

His Jade Seal had been permanently weakened.

"Why has it come to this?"

The Jade Emperor asked.

"The Immortal Dao has merged with the heavens and earth, evolving into new rules."

The voice of the girl answered, "The Southern Continent is no longer ruled by any Immortal."

The ultimate victors of this contest were the Human Clan.

Although they did not obtain the Spiritual Network, they gained the freedom to choose their future.

At least, they needn't worry about the Jade Emperor's wrath causing heaven and earth to shatter.

Anger and sorrow resided in the depths of the Jade Emperor's heart.

"You should not have stopped me."

He said.

"Your Majesty can stop it temporarily but cannot stop it forever."

The girl replied, "This act of letting go is an opportunity for coexistence."

The Jade Emperor frowned slightly, "What do you mean?"

The girl offered a suggestion.

The Jade Emperor was taken aback, his expression shifting multiple times.

In the past, he would not have been moved, but at this moment, the suggestion became invaluable.

"Will the Imperial Brother agree?"

"He will."

The girl said, "I can get him to agree."

"I'll think about it."

The Jade Emperor looked up at the sky a while longer, then turned and left.

In Wanling Hall, Ao Luan awoke from her slumber.

A Palace Maid from the Jade Shrimp Palace entered, carrying water upon hearing a noise.

"Princess."

The Palace Maid assisted her in getting up and washing up.

Ao Luan washed her face.

Seeing her slightly reddened eyes, the Palace Maid asked, "Did the Princess have a nightmare?"

"Mmm."

Ao Luan nodded, "It's all right now."

She would not cry anymore.

The order in the Southern Continent was becoming stable, and the competition in both the Eastern and Western Divine Continents would shift from one of power to one of civilization and thought.

"The Wanling Immortal Path is not meant for warfare."

Ao Luan thought to herself.

Her vision broadened, and she had countless ideas about the Wanling Immortal Path—cultivation, competition, industry—endless.

"I want to hold a competition as well."

Ao Luan vaguely understood how fascinating the future Sun Wukong was looking forward to.

She opened the window.

Outside the window, the sunlight was warm and pleasant, the breeze cool and light, the sky high and vast.

Ao Luan took a deep breath and then smiled.

"I'm off to work."

She turned around and strode toward the outside.

The Palace Maid watched her back in surprise, hardly believing this was their own Princess.

Ao Luan left the room and stopped in front of Sun Wukong's room on her way out of the palace.

Hesitating for a moment, she decided to go in for a look.

Ao Luan opened the door, and a familiar figure appeared before her eyes.

"Good morning."

Sun Wukong said to her.

For a moment, Ao Luan was petrified, hardly believing her own eyes.

She had countless things she wanted to say, but after all the words whirled in her mind, they condensed into a single phrase.

"Welcome back."

September, the shadows of autumn clouds moved across the endless rice paddies.

The sunlight sprinkled upon three figures, with Immortal Light shimmering around them.

"It really gave me a fright, you suddenly waking up after so long."

Immortal Zhenyuan held up a gourd: "Fancy some drink?"

"Sure."

Sun Wukong passed over his cup.

Just as Immortal Zhenyuan was about to pour the wine, a fair hand stopped him.

"Elder, what are you doing?"

The Immortal asked.

"He just woke up, it's better to drink tea."

Elder Jin Chan set out a set of teaware on the ground.

Immortal Zhenyuan's face darkened: "Looking for a fight, are you?"

"Just wanted some guidance."

Elder Jin Chan said with a cold smile.

Both of them stood up.

"When did these two become so bitterly hostile?"

Sun Wukong was puzzled, then someone began pouring something into his cup.

Immortal Zhenyuan and Elder Jin Chan heard the pouring and looked down to see Emperor Donghua, not knowing when he had taken a seat next to Sun Wukong.

He held a gourd similar to Immortal Zhenyuan's and poured crystalline Flower Dew into Sun Wukong's cup.

"I haven't drunk this in a long time."

Sun Wukong drank the Flower Dew, his mouth filled with a fragrant aroma.

Immortal Zhenyuan and Elder Jin Chan were taken aback, their thunder stolen.

"Emperor, where did you get this Flower Dew?"

Sun Wukong inquired of Emperor Donghua.

A hint of amusement flashed in the Emperor's eyes.

"Did you brew it yourself?"

Sun Wukong was somewhat surprised: "You actually know how to brew it?"

The two fools caught on.

"Emperor, that's not very fair of you!"

"Clearly we were the first to host the Great Saint!"

Immortal Zhenyuan and Elder Jin Chan said.

Emperor Donghua glanced at them and shook his gourd.

Immortal Zhenyuan and Elder Jin Chan promptly took their seats and passed over their cups.

They had not drunk Flower Dew in a long time.

The four sat on the ground and drank heartily, Immortal Zhenyuan asked: "Young brother, what woke you up all of a sudden?"

The other two also looked on curiously.

"A strange fellow took on part of the spiritual pressure for me."

Sun Wukong sipped the Flower Dew and said, "She wanted me to play a game. I figured, sleeping or waking, it's just the same, better to get up and play, so I let her sleep in my stead."

Immortal Zhenyuan grew curious: "Who's that strange individual?"

"She didn't say."

Sun Wukong finished his Flower Dew, wiping his mouth: "But there aren't many in this world who could have possibly saved me."

"Oh."

Immortal Zhenyuan did not pursue further.

"What kind of game is it?"

Emperor Donghua seemed quite interested in that game.

"It's nothing much."

Sun Wukong replied: "She wants me to go to the Eastern Continent to play the Jade Emperor."

"Pfft!"

Elder Jin Chan couldn't help but spit out his Flower Dew, spraying it over Immortal Zhenyuan, who was switching gourds.

"Elder!"

The Immortal stared as Emperor Donghua put away his gourd, getting angry: "You did that on purpose, didn't you!"

The two then began to bicker.

Sun Wukong listened to the quarrel, his gaze turning towards the distant lands.

The earth was a vast expanse with waves of rice rolling endlessly.

It had been a long time since he had felt so intimately connected to this world.
