The Tathāgata Must Fail

Chapter 267: Managing the Spiritual Network

Chang'an City, the most prosperous city in the Southern Continent.

True Monarch Ruyi was in the restaurant, but his mind was focused on the crowds coming and going on the streets below.

"Perhaps as Qing Yuanzi said, that lad could very well be an eel spirit!"

King Yu Ray sat in front of him, drinking sullenly: "We've been chasing him for five years, and yet we've never caught him."

"Today, we will definitely catch him."

As True Monarch Ruyi spoke, he couldn't help but think of that youth who disrupted Ao Luan's plans.

Five years ago, he established the Spiritual Network, throwing all of Wanling Country's plans into disarray.

In Wanling Country's plans, the Wanling Immortal Path was supposed to be controlled by them, and once the Wanling Tree was properly cultivated, the technologically knowledgeable Wanling Country would gradually subjugate the Southern Continent.

If the Southern Continent wanted to learn the Immortal Dao, they would have to obtain teachings from Wanling Country.

Wanling Country could provide something to the humans of this place that even the immortals couldn't, making the Southern Continent unable to escape even if it grew wings.

However... that youth changed everything.

He established the Spiritual Network, imparting Immortal techniques that weren't inferior to those of Wanling Country.

Because of this, Wanling Country did not achieve the expected influence.

"Will he really pass through here?"

A crisp female voice sounded next to True Monarch Ruyi.

True Monarch Ruyi turned his head, looking at the young girl at the same table.

"Don't worry."

He told the girl: "We've been chasing him for five years, he'll definitely appear on this street."

This was the main road leading to the Imperial Palace, where the crowds surged, seeming dangerous but actually providing the perfect cover.

The youth who was pursued by both Wanling Country and the Three Thousand Immortal Paths was, however, gaining reputation daily in the Southern Continent.

Years ago, the Human King had decreed the youth a true Saint and had consistently invited him to the Imperial Palace.

The youth had always been unwilling, until recently a princess fell seriously ill, known to all under heaven, and then the youth agreed to come.

"Looking at the time, he should have arrived."

True Monarch Ruyi was constantly observing the commotion on the street.

But after waiting a long time, he had not spotted anyone suspicious.

The youth coming this time with his Taoists couldn't possibly hide so well.

"Something is wrong, let's go out and check."

The young girl suddenly stood up, leaving the restaurant with two demons.

The bustling street seemed to have no anomalies.

"They're all ordinary people."

True Monarch Ruyi surveyed his surroundings and said: "What's wrong here?"

King Yu Ray also looked puzzled.

"The shadows are wrong."

The young girl stared at the shadows under her feet, then looked up at the sky: "The sun hasn't moved a single bit for a period of an incense stick burning."

She suddenly stretched her hand towards the sky.

"Break!"

With a light shout from the girl, a rainbow light shot from her hand towards the sky.

At the next moment, the sky above the heads of the pedestrians cracked like glass, and large fragments fell down.

Amidst the cries of surprise from the crowd, those fragments suddenly shattered into swirls of nebula in midair, intertwining and transforming into countless Immortal Texts that vanished.

This phenomenon was too incredible, causing everyone on the street to freeze.

"What's this?"

King Yu Ray asked.

"Wanling Creation."

The young girl replied.

This was a spell of Wanling Creation.

The girl turned around, hearing the sound of musical rites coming from the Imperial Palace.

"He's already passed."

The girl said.

True Monarch Ruyi and King Yu Ray's faces turned ashen; they were outwitted by Wu Xing again.

In the Imperial Palace, Human King Liu Che led the full court to welcome the Saint.

"Your Majesty."

Sun Wukong greeted the Human King with a bow.

"Master, there is no need for such courtesy."

Already past middle age, Liu Che walked over and lifted his hands.

The civil and military officials secretly marveled; their Emperor had always been proud, meeting him was one thing, but to be so polite to the Saint was something else.

This level of respect had already surpassed that usually given to ordinary Immortals.

"Master, you have kept us waiting anxiously!"

Liu Che looked over 'Wu Xing' with a delighted face.

He found it hard to believe that such a thin young man possessed wisdom surpassing that of Wanling Country.

"This is the power of the Human Clan."

Thought Liu Che.

Unlike the all-encompassing Immortals and those Demons, the youth harbored a power that truly belonged to the Human Clan.

"Please, Master, come inside."

Liu Che took Sun Wukong by the hand and personally led him into the Imperial Palace.

The Imperial Palace of the Southern Continent was a place where various forces intermingled.

But here, no one could defy Liu Che's will; even Immortals dared not act recklessly.

Led by Liu Che, Sun Wukong arrived at the Princess's bedroom.

He didn't take much time to use the Immortal Technique to drive away the Princess's affliction.

"It's truly incredible."

Watching the Princess fall into a deep sleep, Liu Che was amazed.

"My daughter has a congenital heart defect; only Immortal Techniques could cure it."

Liu Che asked Sun Wukong, "Master, you are a mortal. How are you able to employ Immortal Techniques?"

"I don't use Immortal Techniques."

Sun Wukong replied, "The Wanling Immortal Path itself contains the rules of Immortal Techniques; I merely summoned them."

Ordinarily, Immortal Techniques require each Immortal to comprehend and cast their own spells without any intersection with one another.

However, the Wanling Immortal Path is different; Sun Wukong infused the rules and methods of spells into the Spiritual Energy, greatly reducing the qualifications required of the user.

In theory, as long as one is smart enough, they can create Immortal Techniques at will.

"I see."

Liu Che understood.

"That Great Saint truly is a once-in-a-millennium prodigy."

He couldn't help but sigh.

The longer he reigned, the more Liu Che understood why his father had so highly regarded Sun Wukong.

The Wanling Immortal Path could overturn everything; no wonder neither the Heavenly Palace nor Wanling Country wished for the Han Dynasty to control this Immortal Path.

Liu Che invited Sun Wukong to the study and talked with him for the entire day.

For all the doubts of the Human King, Sun Wukong gave answers without any reservation.

After listening, Liu Che finally asked, "Master, how strong is that Great Saint's control over the Wanling Immortal Path?"

It was a very special question.

Sun Wukong glanced at Liu Che, momentarily unable to deduce his thoughts.

"The Great Saint created the Immortal Rules himself."

Sun Wukong thought for a moment, then honestly replied.

"The Wanling Immortal Path is integrated into his being; he and the Immortal Path are one; all Immortal Techniques and items created by the Wanling Immortal Path belong to him."

Saying this, he saw Liu Che furrow his brow.

"Master."

Liu Che continued to ask, "Can the Wanling Immortal Path exist independently of the Great Saint?"

"Of course, it can."

Sun Wukong nodded, "The Great Saint is currently in slumber, and the Southern Continent is far away; the Wanling Immortal Path here is temporarily out of his control."

"Just establish a hub to control the Spiritual Network."

He paused for a moment, then said, "The Wanling Immortal Path of the Southern Continent can then form independently."

Hearing this, Liu Che was overjoyed and immediately stood up, "Does Master know how to establish that hub?"

Sun Wukong nodded again.

Liu Che, unable to contain his joy, immediately bent forward and said, "I would like to invite Master to take up the position of State Preceptor."

Sun Wukong shook his head, "I'm not fond of politics."

A flash of cold light crossed Liu Che's eyes, but he still nodded, "Since that's the case, I will not force Master."
