The Tathāgata Must Fail

Chapter 243: Tao Backlash

The tree stood straight in the grand hall, with clear and transparent green light flowing between its branches and leaves, appearing magnificent.

"Truly a masterpiece crafted by the heavens!"

After observing for several days, Lord Lao Zi of the Great Monad couldn't help but praise Sun Wukong's creation.

Such a beautiful treasure, even if given the blueprints, he couldn't have created it himself.

However, Lord Lao Zi discovered a problem.

"Great Saint, you haven't separated the Jade Seal?"

He saw the Jade Seal hidden within the tree trunk, providing energy like a heart to the tree.

"You can't use the entire Jade Seal as its heart."

Lord Lao Zi furrowed his brows slightly, "That's too dangerous."

"I know."

Sun Wukong nodded, "The Jade Seal is a manifestation of the Heavenly Dao, it can't be divided. We have to wait for this tree to mature, then facilitate their separation."

The rules of the Wanling Immortal Path differ from those in the Jade Seal. Once it takes shape, it will be repelled by the Jade Seal, achieving separation.

"If that's the case, Great Saint, be sure to cultivate it carefully."

Lord Lao Zi said no more.

Sun Wukong began a two-year process of growing the tree.

This tree didn't need watering, but it was more particular about nutrients. Only Immortal Dao texts selected by Sun Wukong could help it grow.

At first, many Immortals flocked to the Wanling Hall, hoping to gain some Immortal Dao knowledge from the tree.

Sun Wukong didn't drive anyone away, but after observing for a while, the Immortals realized they couldn't understand it, and gradually no one came anymore.

In the end, only two regulars remained in the Wanling Hall.

One of them was Ao Luan.

Although she couldn't understand, it didn't stop her from spending several hours a day in the Wanling Hall.

The other one was Daji.

She spent even more time in the Wanling Hall than Ao Luan did, to the point that after six months, she had delegated her work and spent half her time here.

Ao Luan couldn't help asking, "Can you understand it?"

"No, but it's very beautiful."

Daji said, having become enamored with the tree.

Sun Wukong was busy seeking patterns from the texts, only occasionally glancing at Daji, who usually napped beneath the tree.

"What exactly has she grasped?"

Sun Wukong was very curious.

Initially, he thought Daji was only intrigued for a moment, but later realized her Immortal Energy had indeed grown.

This tree was created by Sun Wukong, but even he couldn't fully understand its influence.

Of course, this didn't affect Sun Wukong's actions in any way.

He enjoyed change and was embracing it.

Daji noticed this aspect of Sun Wukong.

She occasionally saw a gleam of light in Sun Wukong's eyes as he looked at the tree.

Those fiery eyes.

Only in those very few moments could she see Sun Wukong's joy and anticipation in his eyes.

What he sought to create was not just a Wanling Immortal Path; he had grander goals to achieve—and this tree was merely the starting point on that journey.

"What is that goal?"

That was the one thing Daji couldn't fathom.

The tree grew day by day under Sun Wukong's cultivation.

A year later, demons in Wanling City heard a massive rumble from the sky.

They looked toward the Wanling Hall and saw a green fan had appeared atop its roof.

More precisely, it was the canopy of a tree.

Demons, upon witnessing this scene, gaped in astonishment.

"The Great Saint's palace was broken by a tree!"

They spread the word quickly, and soon everyone knew about it.

Not long after, the tree began to absorb Spiritual Energy from Wanling City, the green light spreading among its branches and leaves, turning the tiled roof of the Wanling Hall a lush green.

"What exactly is that tree?"

"Why does it glow?"

The demons were filled with curiosity.

"Immortal Dao."

A rumor began to spread: "That tree is the Wanling Immortal Path."

The Wanling Immortal Path, the Immortal Dao that anyone could follow to become an Immortal.

This was a legendary Immortal Dao, long sought by the Great Saint.

Though the demons knew about it, they still found it hard to believe.

"How could this tree possibly be an Immortal Dao?"

They wondered in their hearts, yet they couldn't help but fix their gaze on the tree in the entire Wanling Country.

The tree grew larger and larger, its trunk like a dragon, its canopy like clouds, rising like a grand umbrella that blocked the sun and cast a massive shadow on Wanling City.

Winds began rising from the tree, blowing in all directions.

The green light fell like whispering snowflakes on Wanling Country, falling on people, causing any ailment or wound to vanish.

"What... what is this!"

Everyone was stunned; just a tiny bit of light possessed such incredible power.

The demons finally realized what a remarkable thing Sun Wukong had created.

"The Wanling Immortal Path is real!"

"It must be real!"

More and more people began to believe the rumor.

Wanling Country was in an uproar.

"Mommy, can we become Immortals too?"

Some young demons asked their parents.

"Yes, we can."

The demons answered, "Once this tree grows, all of us can become Immortals."

The power of the tree had surpassed everything.

Boys and girls, all demons, all humans, looked joyfully at the tree as it continued to grow larger.

Two years passed in the blink of an eye.

There was a giant tremor in the Wanling Hall.

"What happened?"

Daji was startled awake, unsteady on her feet, supported by another hand on her back.

"Great... Great King."

Daji turned to look at Sun Wukong, who was supporting her, "Was it an earthquake?"

"This is the heavens; how could there be an earthquake."

Sun Wukong chuckled, and once Daji steadied herself, he instructed her, "The tree has encountered a situation, take Anjing Ning Shen and the others, and leave for a day."

"Okay."

Daji quickly called for the Immortal Officials and Fairies of the Wanling Hall, and together they left the palace.

Once everyone had left, Sun Wukong turned to look at the surging light from within the tree trunk.

The Wanling Immortal Path and the Jade Seal had begun to conflict.

The Jade Seal, condensed from the past Heavenly Dao, would inevitably not tolerate the Wanling Immortal Path, and only now could Sun Wukong separate them.

"Let the separation begin."

Sun Wukong began to perform magic to separate the two entities.

The entire Wanling Hall shook.

However, the tremor not only affected the Wanling Hall, but also spread to the Heavenly Palace and Lingshan.

In the Northern Continent, Tathāgata paused his sermon.

The Jade Seal beside him was trembling.

"Amitabha Buddha..."

Tathāgata looked towards the Western Continent, where the foundation of the Heavenly Dao, maintained for tens of thousands of years, trembled.

This was the aura of fear.

The Heavenly Dao was afraid.

"Thirty years early."

Tathāgata thought, *Sun Wukong has reached this point so quickly, even the Jade Emperor didn't foresee it.*

He stood up.

"Buddha."

The Immortals all looked towards him.

"The time is almost upon us."

Tathāgata said.

"Sun Wukong's ambition knows no bounds, he will suffer the counterattack of the Heavenly Dao, such a rare opportunity must not be missed."
