The Tathāgata Must Fail

Chapter 140: Pillar of Talent

Three silhouettes advanced through the clouds.

"Junior brother, let's see who can find a Cave Heaven Blessed Land first."

As Immortal Zhen Yuan spoke, he waved his hand to send out a spiritual wind to probe the ground.

Since they needed to choose a place to settle down, they couldn't fly too fast; along the way, they used various spells in search of Cave Heaven Blessed Lands.

Immortal Zhen Yuan's wind could discern all things on the surface, while Emperor Donghua could directly calculate the coursing of Spirit Veins.

Sun Wukong's spell was the simplest: a sweep of his Eyes of Golden Flame over the earth allowed him to clearly see where there were more demons and extraordinary herbs.

He suddenly stopped in his tracks.

"What's wrong?"

Immortal Zhen Yuan curiously looked toward the ground. Although the mountains were beautiful and the Spiritual Energy decent, they paled in comparison to Huaguo Mountain.

Then, he saw white bones emitting black qi on the mountainside.

"So that's it, it's about to take shape."

Immortal Zhen Yuan was about to eliminate it with a flick of his hand.

Sun Wukong stopped him.

"What is it?"

Immortal Zhen Yuan asked, as such devils are born evil, different from the usual demons.

Sun Wukong casually pointed, and a ray of golden light shot down onto the ground, then the black qi gradually disappeared.

"Are you enlightening it?"

Immortal Zhen Yuan was somewhat surprised.

"It has not committed evil yet."

Sun Wukong said: "It can be observed for another hundred years."

Immortal Zhen Yuan shook his head, not sure whether to call Sun Wukong naïve or what.

The three of them then went on their way.

As soon as they left, a puff of white smoke emerged from the ground.

It was the local Mountain God, who looked up at the sky reverently, then looked at the white bones again, before returning to his home underground.

"Old man, who were those just now above?"

The Mountain God's wife asked, "Why such a terrifying presence?"

"That was the newly anointed Heavenly Venerate, Great Sage Equaling Heaven."

The Mountain God responded: "He shared a bit of Merit to enlighten those bones—it seems not bad."

He had already packed his bags, originally planning to leave the Western Continent, but now he hesitated.

"Well, let's stay a while longer and see what the Great Sage is up to."

The Mountain God asked his wife to bring over a musical note, which had just been sent over by other Mountain Gods.

The Mountain God activated the note.

Arguing voices immediately came from the note.

"I'll go first, I'll go first!"

"No, it should be me, I'm first!"

The Mountain God and his wife looked at each other puzzled—what was this all about?

At Huaguo Mountain, the Immortals had created a giant musical note.

This note was placed near a node in the forest; due to the distance from the Western Continent being too great, only with this musical note could voices be clearly transmitted over.

At that moment, sixty to seventy girls were fighting over the note.

When Ao Luan returned, all she saw was a chaotic scene, and the Water Virtues Star Monarch responsible for guarding the note seemed helpless, not knowing whether to intervene or not.

Her gaze swept over them; she didn't see Mei Hu but did see the Water Moon Fairy sitting to the side, meditating with her legs crossed.

"Water Moon Fairy."

Ao Luan approached: "You're in charge of them, can you help me separate them?"

Water Moon Fairy opened her eyes, then nodded.

"Disperse."

With a wave of her hand, the arguing girls were flung away.

Ao Luan thanked her, then asked, "Are you feeling unwell, Fairy?"

"No."

Water Moon Fairy shook her head; she was meditating cross-legged just because she was too full.

"That impudent monkey even assigned six cooks to me!"

Water Moon Fairy grumbled inwardly.

With Sun Wukong doubting her like this, she had to be even more careful not to slip up.

"Fairy, please use the musical notes to explain to those mountain gods and land deities."

Ao Luan said, "I have allocated time for everyone."

Water Moon Fairy nodded, she went over to the musical notes and began to convey the details of the rainfall forecast to the mountain gods and land deities of the Western Continent, which also included how to feedback if the forecast was inaccurate, as well as how to notify the mortals, among other details.

Ao Luan saw her diligent work and turned to allocate time to the other girls.

Due to technical limitations, the conveyance through the musical notes couldn't be very finely divided by region; the sound transmitted through this large musical note would resound throughout all corners of the Western Continent.

To solve this problem, Ao Luan thought to divide it into time slots.

Different time slots would be managed by different forecasters, informing the respective areas of the Western Continent of rainfall.

In this way, those mountain gods and land deities would be aware of the timing and wouldn't need to hold onto the musical notes all day long.

The girls, having been allocated their times, didn't argue anymore.

"Second Great King."

A fox demon couldn't help but ask, "Since there's only one musical note, why recruit so many people?"

The other girls were also puzzled; if there was only one musical note, then just two or three people taking shifts could complete the entire rainfall forecast for the Western Continent.

"It's just one for now."

Ao Luan answered, "There will be more in the future."

She knew in her heart that Sun Wukong had each person correspond to a region's mountain gods and land deities for the sake of more refined management in the future.

This musical note would have a significant function in the future, not merely limited to rainfall forecasting.

"You all must be serious."

Ao Luan finally said, "This work will bring you merit, do not be negligent or careless."

The girls nodded in agreement.

Ao Luan then left the forest.

"Where did Daji go?"

She wondered, why wasn't Mei Hu in the forest on the first day of work?

Ao Luan found Mei Hu trailing behind Master Puti in the library.

"What are you doing here?"

She asked.

"Becoming an apprentice."

Mei Hu replied.

She heard that today Master Puti was in a very good mood and had taken an interest in the book of musical notes, so she pestered him all day long.

The one who understood musical notes the most in Huaguo Mountain was Mei Hu — this thing was developed by her for her own use.

"Becoming an apprentice?"

Ao Luan frowned slightly, looking at Master Puti, who was reading a book ahead.

"Grandmaster, would you take on a disciple?"

"If it's you, I would accept you as a nominal disciple."

Master Puti put down his book and said.

Ao Luan and Mei Hu were both stunned, and Mei Hu immediately exclaimed, "Why is that!"

"She will become an Immortal Country Prime Minister in the future; her status is different from yours.

Master replied, "Her current strength is not enough to command the immortals."

Of course, Ao Luan wouldn't miss the opportunity, and promptly bowed in respect: "Ao Luan wishes to take Grandmaster as my master."

"Good."

Grandmaster smiled, "Come and listen to my teachings when you have time!"

Ao Luan nodded.

Mei Hu wanted to cry but had no tears: "Why can't I?"

"If you become a pillar of talent, come find me again!"

Grandmaster picked up the book and resumed reading.

Ao Luan pulled Mei Hu out with her.

"The disciples Grandmaster wishes to teach must be those who can be of great help to your elder brothers."

Ao Luan said.

She looked at the unhappy face of Mei Hu and spoke to her about the times for the rainfall forecast.

"Don't forget about work."

After saying that, Ao Luan left.

"It's really unfair."

Mei Hu thought to herself — isn't it just about being helpful to the Great King? She could be helpful too!
