The Tathāgata Must Fail

Chapter 164: Totem Text

Brahma Void Heavenly Court, two divine rainbows shot out of the void.

Lord Lao Zi of the Great Monad, who was studying the Bodhi Tree, noticed these two divine rainbows and flew over.

"Heavenly Emperor."

He saluted Sun Wukong, about to inquire about his journey, but Sun Wukong raised his hand to interrupt him.

"I need to enter retreat."

Having said this, he flew towards the Bodhi Tree.

Lord Lao Zi, puzzled, looked towards Emperor Donghua, who shook his head to indicate he was unaware of what Sun Wukong intended to do in retreat.

But he too had to enter retreat, to study the stone that he had brought back from Hongmeng Land.

Emperor Donghua glanced around and then found a Star Palace to descend into.

Sun Wukong arrived beneath the Bodhi Tree, his sharpness concealed, like a Divine Sword sheathed, and began to meditate cross-legged.

He already knew the direction of the future but was unclear about how to proceed on this path, his only option being to seek answers from those Hongmeng Totems.

After leaving the Three Realms, Sun Wukong had marked countless totems on numerous Star Palaces.

In addition to those he witnessed on Hongmeng Land this time, he planned to unravel the secrets of these totems, thereby finding answers to the many questions in his heart.

This was an enormous task.

Sun Wukong sat for seven days and nights.

At first, out of curiosity, Lord Lao Zi of the Great Monad watched for a day, and finding that Sun Wukong was merely meditating without any unusual actions, quickly lost interest and set aside the matter.

On the eighth day, an anomaly occurred.

"Boom——"

A loud crash as the Bodhi Tree trembled, Lord Lao Zi was shocked and turned to look.

"What is that?"

Beside Sun Wukong, totem after totem transformed into beams of light soaring skyward.

These totems converged into a mass, a vast expanse of white, writhing like dancing dragons and snakes.

"That's Hongmeng Characters!"

Lord Lao Zi immediately became ecstatic, shouting, "It won't last long, quickly note it down."

All the Immortals gathered around the Bodhi Tree immediately shifted their gaze, recording those totem characters.

True to his words, the totems didn't last long; after circling briefly, they burst with a bang, disintegrating into dust.

The totems exploded into a bright white light, immense and overwhelming, sweeping through the void, lighting up the Heavenly Court as bright as day for a moment.

"Truly an inconceivable power."

Lord Lao Zi marveled at the scene.

He knew this power was not from Sun Wukong, but rather innate to the totems themselves.

This immense power bathed everyone in the white light, arousing a deep, reverent awe from their hearts.

The Buddha's disciples looked into the void, where Sun Wukong sat cross-legged beneath the Bodhi Tree. Although appearing to be meditating with eyes closed, it was as if he were expounding the Tao, inducing celestial phenomena.

Many Buddha's disciples kneeled devoutly, quietly experiencing the baptism of the white light.

Inside the Star Palace, Emperor Donghua ceased his meditation and looked up at the brilliance of those totem characters.

A series of unfamiliar characters poured into his eyes, and Emperor Donghua seemed to have an epiphany, his hands glowing as he presented the stone.

The stone in his hands trembled slightly, then frenziedly absorbed the white light and sprouted stone hands and feet, beginning to move.

Emperor Donghua's eyes shone with amazement.

The totems were so powerful that perhaps Sun Wukong had triggered some Hongmeng Technique, and just a trace amount of power that leaked out was enough to animate his stone.

Not just that, Emperor Donghua heard a rustling sound beside him.

He turned around, only to see a small blade of grass behind him stretching its leaves through the soil and standing up.

Subsequently, the surrounding flowers, plants, and insects, all having absorbed the white light, transformed into little demons and stood up.

Emperor Donghua's eyes widened with astonishment.

Jubilant, the little demons stood up, came together, bowed several times towards the void, and then ran off gleefully to frolic.

The stone in Emperor Donghua's hand saw this and wanted to jump out too, but after two attempts, it didn't dare leave his palm.

Seeing this, Emperor Donghua bent down, placed his hand on the ground, and watched the stone hop out from his palm, joining the playful group of little demons.

"What kind of Divine Skill is this, possessing such terrifying power."

Emperor Donghua watched the little demons play together, unable to hide his astonishment at the power that enlivened them.

He lifted his head and saw a beam of Buddha Light flying towards the Bodhi Tree in the void.

That was the Buddha.

The Buddha arrived at the Bodhi Tree, seeing an ethereal shadow flickering upon it.

"Great Monk."

The Buddha was somewhat surprised: "You have not yet perished."

The shadow flickered on and off but did not respond.

"So it is."

The Buddha sighed, the White Robed Venerate had perished, and it was the power just now that awakened a trace of his worldly attachment.

But that attachment was not the White Robed Venerate himself.

"Your Tao surpasses mine."

The shadow suddenly spoke.

"The Tao has no distinction of size."

The Buddha responded.

"My realm is even larger than yours."

The shadow spoke again.

The Buddha shook his head, "Sumeru Hidden Mustard Seed, Mustard Seed Contains Sumeru."

The shadow spoke no more.

The Buddha looked at it and then said, "Sun Wukong is deducing the Chaotic Truth; since you cannot forget, you might as well join me in aiding him."

The shadow immediately transformed into a myriad of Brahma characters, enveloping Sun Wukong from above.

"Great good."

The Buddha sat cross-legged, began to deduce the Tao, exhaling Golden Lotuses, and protected the way for Sun Wukong.
