Two months later, Sun Wukong took Lady Rakshasa's place.
This incident aroused much discussion among the Immortals, but for the Demons studying the Wanling Creation, it was an expected outcome.
Another three months passed, and their results came out.
In the Wanling Hall, Ao Luan looked at the Light Ball on the scroll with a somewhat skeptical face.
"Is this really the Wanling Tree?"
She turned her gaze to Lady Rakshasa, who had come to report.
The Wanling Tree was a product modeled after the giant tree of twenty-five years ago, aimed at spreading the Wanling Immortal Path.
As long as this tree is planted in the land of the Southern Continent, it can infuse the rules of the Wanling Immortal Path there—simple to use, even mortals can do it.
"Great King, this is the Wanling Tree."
Lady Rakshasa affirmed to Ao Luan.
Ao Luan frowned, the casual rule infusion by Sun Wukong back then was an extremely difficult technique for them.
She had to be cautious.
"Zhuzi Country has not yet been influenced by the Immortal Dao."
Ao Luan said: "Bring Wu Xing over there."
Lady Rakshasa nodded, understanding her meaning.
Ao Luan wanted Wu Xing to establish the rules with the Wanling Tree in Zhuzi Country; he was both a mortal and the main researcher, no one could be more suitable than him.
"An unnecessary move..."
Upon hearing Lady Rakshasa's message, Sun Wukong couldn't help thinking that this was already a finished product.
If it wasn't for the fear that doing it too quickly would cause suspicion, he could have put together the Wanling Tree in a month.
However, Sun Wukong eventually reached Zhuzi Country with Lady Rakshasa.
The two found a valley rich in Spiritual Energy, where Sun Wukong personally placed the Light Ball on the ground.
Half a stick of incense later, a glowing young tree appeared before the two, its roots planted firmly into the ground.
The Spiritual Energy in the valley started to change.
While waiting for the change to complete, Sun Wukong asked a question that had never been asked before by Lady Rakshasa: "Will Wanling Immortal Path increase Spiritual Energy?"
This question surprised Lady Rakshasa.
"You actually noticed."
Lady Rakshasa sized up Sun Wukong.
The Wanling Immortal Path indeed does increase Spiritual Energy, but even the Immortals hadn't noticed for over a decade.
It wasn't until a few years ago that Immortal Zhen Yuan, while investigating the Spiritual Network, found that its strength exceeded expectations and realized that Wanling Immortal Path could increase Spiritual Energy.
They have not yet found the cause.
"Have you discovered any reason?"
Lady Rakshasa asked.
Sun Wukong shook his head: "If I had found it, I wouldn't be asking you."
"I don't know either."
Lady Rakshasa smiled wryly. Wanling Immortal Path encourages the creation of Daoist Skills, yet Spiritual Energy increases the more it is used—a truly odd phenomenon.
The additional Spiritual Energy did not arise from the essence of the sun and moon; it was as if it had appeared out of thin air, with an enigmatic source.
Master Puti was also researching this, but despite scouring the libraries for Immortal Text, he found no clues.
"Perhaps, the Great King had not anticipated this."
Lady Rakshasa said.
Sun Wukong couldn't help but glance at her.
Indeed, he had not anticipated it; he initially only infused the rules into the Spiritual Network.
After the infusion of rules, the Spiritual Energy increased inversely, which was quite unfathomable.
An increase in Spiritual Energy wasn't a bad thing, but it was not within Sun Wukong's expectations. Sun Wukong even somewhat suspected that this might have to do with the heavenly and earthly rules.
However, he couldn't find a lead for the time being.
Sun Wukong and Lady Rakshasa stayed in the valley for three days, until the Wanling Tree extended its rules throughout the whole Zhuzi Country.
The experiment was a success.
The two then returned to the Wanling Hall to report the results of the experiment.
Ao Luan then had it examined again by Peaceful and Divine Inspection.
Once the inspection found no problems, she showed a smile for the first time.
"You've done very well."
She has given a fair amount of rewards to all the demons involved in the research.
Several days later, Ao Luan summoned Wu Xing again, saying that there was no need to continue the creation research, as there was more important work for him to do.
Sun Wukong arrived at Wanling Hall and saw that it was filled with demons and humans.
All the demons were Great Demons, and the humans were Taoists; the number of humans was ten times that of the demons, a ratio inconsistent with the population ratio of Wanling Country.
"The start is upon us."
Sun Wukong knew what Ao Luan was planning to do.
Neither demon nor human had attained immortality.
Ao Luan walked in, and sure enough, as soon as she began to speak, it was to instruct them to use the Wanling Immortal Path to conquer the Southern Continent.
There was an uproar among the crowd.
"Us, conquer the Southern Continent?"
"How can that be possible?"
They found it incredible.
A Fox Demon stepped forward and asked, "Great King, how shall we confront the Heavenly Palace?"
"There's no need to confront them."
Ao Luan answered, "Big brother has already weakened the power of the Immortals on the Southern Continent, you can just act in secret."
Another Taoist stood up.
"Fairy."
He clasped his hands and asked, "To what extent have the Immortals been weakened?"
"At the very least, the nature's spiritual energy of the Southern Continent will not be controlled by the Immortals."
Ao Luan answered.
The crowd looked at each other, then began to discuss.
The Immortals not controlling the spiritual energy simply meant they could not prevent the spread of the Wanling Immortal Path on the Southern Continent.
But the demons and Taoists of Wanling Hall had to consider the risk of engaging in battle with the Immortals.
This risk was almost a certainty.
It was an exceedingly dangerous task!
"Fairy."
The Taoist asked again, "May I refuse?"
"You may."
Ao Luan said coldly, "After the refusal, I will erase this memory of yours and let you return to your former life."
The Taoist was somewhat surprised.
"You may consider it."
Ao Luan continued, "Big brother has set a fifty-year deadline, and most of that time has already passed. If you do not act, naturally others will."
What Wanling Country does not lack now is the population, and there is no shortage of Taoists and Great Demons.
While everyone was still hesitating, Sun Wukong readily agreed.
Ao Luan got up and called him over.
"Come with me."
She led Sun Wukong out of Wanling Hall.
"I have great expectations for you, and I am pleased that you could accept this task."
As they walked, Ao Luan said, "I believe you will certainly be able to conquer the Southern Continent."
Sun Wukong cocked his head, "Aren't you overestimating me?"
"I have prepared a partner for you."
Ao Luan clapped her hands at the entrance of Wanling Hall, and immediately a shadow fell from the sky.
Sun Wukong initially thought it was a bird until it landed in Ao Luan's hand, and he realized it was a squirrel.
"This little fellow is very clever; it can turn bad luck into good fortune."
Ao Luan handed the squirrel to Sun Wukong and said, "It has been raised by Sweeping Star for ten years; do not feed it acorns unless absolutely necessary."
Sun Wukong played with the squirrel, "What will happen if I give it acorns?"
"Bad luck will be triggered."
Ao Luan said, "It's not ordinary bad luck; you must be careful."
Sun Wukong became curious.
He was about to ask more when Ao Luan turned and walked back into Wanling Hall.
"Spend some time with it first; when it's time to leave, I will tell you."
