The Tathāgata Must Fail

Chapter 186: Journey to the Underworld (4/4)

General Guo Shen did not derail—it was impossible.

Because of his excessive speed, he derailed and flew out of everyone's sight.

It was only after everyone rushed to follow him that they saw General Guo Shen flying over two mountains, crashing into a green ox that was on a date.

The Plum Mountain Brothers quickly lifted a man and an ox to seek treatment from Lord Lao Zi of the Great Monad.

The Seven Spider Demons were also thrown into the air, fortunately, when they fell, they used spider silk to bind themselves to a large tree, preventing themselves from being smashed to death.

However, even without hitting the ground, they were terrified, their little faces dirty, all crying like little tabby cats.

Water Moon Fairy, upon hearing the news, rushed over and gave them a scolding before taking Elder Golden Cicada and the sobbing Spider Demons away.

Immortal Zhen Yuan also heard about the accident and rushed back, feeling deeply moved upon seeing the scene.

"If only I could play like this just once."

He said so.

Sun Wukong couldn't be bothered with him.

"Great Saint."

On the way back to Wanling Hall, Immortal Master Erlang said to Sun Wukong, "The Plum Mountain Brothers can continue to stay by the Immortal's side, but you have to give Thousand-mile Eye and Sharp-Hearing Ear to me."

These two Immortals' Divine Skills would be of great assistance to him.

Sun Wukong nodded in agreement.

"Immortal Master Erlang."

A thought crossed his mind, and he suddenly remembered something: "Could I borrow some Ghost Judges from you?"

"Judges?"

Immortal Master Erlang looked at him curiously and asked, "What do you need Judges for?"

"I'm going to the Underworld."

Sun Wukong replied, "They know the way."

That same evening, a few Ghost Judges drove a carriage and led Sun Wukong to the Underworld.

In the Netherworld, chilling winds whispered and black fog lingered everywhere.

This was the world of the dead, not only eerily lifeless, but also fraught with danger.

The Judges proceeded with caution, yet as soon as the carriage carrying Sun Wukong entered the Netherworld, it shone brightly and was shrouded in Auspicious Clouds.

Lonely ghosts far in the distance spotted the carriage and scattered, none daring to approach it.

They traveled without obstructions, quite smoothly.

"The Great Saint's Divine Skills are indeed powerful."

The Ghost Judges admired in their hearts as they drove the carriage to a majestic city gate.

On the blue-gray city gate hung a large sign with seven big golden characters that read "Netherworld Ghost Gate."

"Great Saint, we've arrived."

The Judges respectfully asked Sun Wukong for instructions.

Sun Wukong got off the carriage just in time to see the doors of the Ghost Gate flung open, and a hurrying old Taoist rushed out.

"Great King, it really is you!"

The old Taoist greeted with joyous hands, "Your sudden visit caught me unprepared to welcome you from afar, please forgive me."

"No problem."

Sun Wukong smiled, "It seems you are doing well."

"The Kings Yan treat me well."

The old Taoist led Sun Wukong and his entourage into the city, catching up on old times as they walked.

There were many ghosts within the city, but seeing the radiant light from Sun Wukong, they all knelt on the ground, none daring to lift their heads.

Before long, Sun Wukong arrived at a palace with green tiles.

The Yin energy around the palace drifted like mist, not wrapped by Immortal Energy as the Immortal palaces were, but carried its own imposing dignity, stern and formidable.

Upon receiving the news, the Ten Kings Yan straightened their robes and came out together, descending the stairs.

"Greetings to the Great Saint."

They bowed in salute at the bottom of the stairs.

Sun Wukong looked over the Ten Kings Yan and said, "No need for formalities."

Though the Underworld was not under Sun Wukong's jurisdiction, he ruled over the Western Continent, which included all living souls.

He had the power to establish his own Underworld, stripping the Kings Yan of their jurisdiction over the Western Continent; naturally, the Ten Kings Yan did not dare show any neglect towards him.

The Kings Yan invited Sun Wukong to sit inside the hall, and immediately tea was prepared for him.

"May I inquire, Great Saint, what brings you to our realm today?"

They sat cautiously to one side and asked,

"I've come to see if the creatures of the Western Continent are subject to discrimination in the Underworld."

Sun Wukong spoke.

The Ten Kings of Hell were startled, hastily stood and gave a respectful bow, "We would never dare to do such a thing!"

Seeing their demeanor, Wukong believed them for the most part.

Their cautiousness showed reverence towards him, and that was enough.

In fact, he did not have the manpower or energy to interfere with the affairs of the Underworld; today was just a courtesy visit.

"If you administer justice impartially, I generally will not intervene in matters of the Netherworld."

Sun Wukong said.

The Ten Kings of Hell immediately felt relieved.

The Netherworld has its own laws, and reincarnation follows a path. Any disturbance would affect countless souls.

With Sun Wukong's power to influence the three realms, they were indeed worried he might cause chaos here.

But Sun Wukong's words eased their minds.

"I generally will not intervene…"

Sun Wukong continued, "But if I find you being unjust or biased, do not blame me for being impolite in the future."

"Rest assured, Great Saint."

The Ten Kings of Hell hurriedly reassured Sun Wukong that they would hold no biased sentiments.

After sitting for a while, Sun Wukong stood up.

The Ten Kings of Hell also rose, prepared to respectfully see him out.

Unexpectedly, Sun Wukong suddenly asked, "Where might the Womb of the Earth Bodhisattva be?"

He looked at the Ten Kings of Hell, "I wish to pay a visit."

The Ten Kings of Hell were taken aback, then shook their heads, "Great Saint, the Bodhisattva has left the Green Cloud Palace today to attend sutra lectures at Lingshan."

Sun Wukong's brows furrowed slightly.

"What about Houtu then?"

He continued to ask.

"Houtu is still in the Underworld."

King Qinguang spoke, "But she is sleeping, it would not be proper to disturb her."

King Yanluo added, "She is quite grumpy upon waking."

"Grumpy upon waking?"

Sun Wukong was curious.

"Yes, very grumpy."

King Yanluo nodded, "The last time Ksitigarbha disturbed her slumber, she used her Immortal Technique to draw a turtle on his head, which has not yet disappeared."

Isn't that going to draw a crowd around Ksitigarbha at Lingshan right now?

Sun Wukong couldn't help thinking.

But since she was sleeping, it would be impolite to disturb her.

Sun Wukong then had the attending Judge go out and bring all the gifts from the carriage.

"Since both the Womb of the Earth Bodhisattva and Houtu are unavailable, I'll trouble you, the Kings…"

Sun Wukong pointed at the gifts scattered on the ground, "to pass these on to them."

Besides those two, he had also brought gifts for the Ten Kings of Hell.

Although the gifts were not many, each had one or two boxes, and upon accepting the gifts, the Ten Kings felt unexpectedly honored.

"We have long heard of the Great Saint's sincerity, and today it proves to be true."

As they thought this, they then discovered a Rune amongst the gifts.

"Great Saint, what is this?"

They asked.

"This is a Music token."

Sun Wukong replied, "If you have the time, you may occasionally listen to some songs from Wanling City."

He had already set up a dedicated Underworld channel in Wanling City.

The Ten Kings of Hell had never heard of a Music token, but seeing that the Rune was harmless, they accepted it.

Afterward, Sun Wukong secretly gave an old Immortal a watch, then left the Underworld with the Judges.
