The Tathāgata Must Fail

Chapter 156: Don't Want to Become a Monk

As soon as Elder Jin Chan walked into the Wanling Hall, he saw Jingu Bang and the Palm Leaf Fan fighting each other.

The two magic weapons were chasing and playing around in the palace, scaring the Immortal Officials and Fairies so much that they lay flat on the ground, not daring to raise their heads.

After Elder Jin Chan entered, Jingu Bang and the Palm Leaf Fan seemed to discover a new toy and flew towards him.

"Stop causing trouble,"

a voice shouted from within the great hall, and the two weapons immediately flew back obediently, disappearing on Sun Wukong.

Elder Jin Chan was dumbfounded, "Your weapons are becoming more and more sentient."

"No matter how sentient they get, they're still just weapons."

Sun Wukong replied, then asked, "Elder, what brings you here?"

"The musical notes you asked me to improve,"

Elder Jin Chan said, "I've already made progress."

Sun Wukong was overjoyed upon hearing this.

He had entrusted the task of improving the notes to a group of Demons under the leadership of Elder Jin Chan, who was the first to design the notes and knew them as well as anyone else.

But Sun Wukong had not expected Elder Jin Chan to make progress so quickly.

"Let's talk outside,"

Elder Jin Chan suggested, "The Bull Demon King's ramen shop has been open for a month, and I still haven't visited."

The fact was, he always got lost.

"I'll take you there,"

Sun Wukong understood and replied with a smile, "But we must wait a moment."

"Wait for what?"

Elder Jin Chan asked.

"Ao Luan will be coming over shortly,"

Sun Wukong answered, "She is moving to Wanling City."

"So soon?"

Elder Jin Chan was surprised, then realized he misspoke.

It should have been "so late" instead.

Wanling City had been under construction for half a year since the borders were established.

With Ao Luan's nature, she should have come long ago.

Sun Wukong asked Elder Jin Chan to sit and wait for Ao Luan together.

When Ao Luan arrived at Wanling Hall, it was already sunset.

"Brother,"

she greeted Sun Wukong with a face full of joy.

"Have you arranged everything at Huaguo Mountain?"

Sun Wukong asked.

"Yes,"

Ao Luan nodded, "Following your advice, I entrusted the work at Huaguo Mountain to the four old monkeys and the Jade-faced Fox."

The four old monkeys were highly respected at Huaguo Mountain and could manage its daily affairs and protect the unshaped little Demons.

The Jade-faced Fox was skilled in transactions and could oversee Huaguo Mountain's trade with the Four Great Continents.

Together with the assistance of other Demon Kings, they would surely bring peace and stability to Huaguo Mountain.

"Did they say anything?"

Sun Wukong asked again.

"No,"

Ao Luan shook her head.

These five all wanted to come to Wanling City. Although they were not very willing, they eventually agreed to stay at Huaguo Mountain.

Huaguo Mountain held extraordinary significance for Sun Wukong and for the Demons and humans who moved to Wanling City. It was their homeland; even if they temporarily left, they would certainly return in the future.

The Jade-faced Fox and the four old monkeys understood this well, which was why they were willing to wait.

After understanding the situation at Huaguo Mountain, Sun Wukong left Wanling Hall with Ao Luan and Elder Jin Chan.

They arrived in Wanling City, which already had the appearance of a proper city.

At nightfall, countless lanterns floated in the air, illuminating Wanling City brightly.

The crisscrossing streets formed the city's bloodstream and skeleton; the passage to the Tongtian River had not yet officially opened, but the city already housed 200,000 Demons and humans from Huaguo Mountain, and the streets were bustling continuously.

Ao Luan noticed some strangely dressed women walking on the streets.

"Who are those people?"

she asked.

"Scholars from the West Liang Woman Country,"

Sun Wukong replied.

Although Wanling City's school had not yet opened, the West Liang Woman Country had already sent many citizens to learn skills.

Additionally, the Fairies, led by Fairy Chang'e, had recruited many talented disciples. It was said they even included the country's princess.

"Hmm?"

Sun Wukong randomly spotted an acquaintance in the street.

"Water Moon Fairy,"

he called out to her.

Water Moon Fairy's face turned pale. It was rare for her to come out, only to encounter this troublesome star.

"Fairy, just in time," Sun Wukong approached and said, "Last time, I invited you for ramen, but you didn't seem to eat much. Let me make it up to you this time."

"N-no need..."

Water Moon Fairy turned pale, thinking about how she turned ashen last time eating that ramen.

The Bull Demon King had gotten tired of making ramen and now talked of closing whenever he saw her.

"Great Saint, I still wouldn't go,"

Water Moon Fairy said, "If I went, the Bull Demon King definitely wouldn't be happy, so you should go on your own!"

After she finished speaking, she said her farewell and hurriedly left.

Sun Wukong had no choice but to take Ao Luan and Jin Chanzi to the ramen shop.

He suddenly noticed a barbecue stall opened next to the ramen shop.

Sun Wukong paused, "Why are the Peng Demon King and The Immortal of Colossal Spirit together?"

"He has been freeloading every day, angering the Bull Demon King, so he partnered with The Immortal of Colossal Spirit to open a barbecue stall,"

Elder Jin Chan replied, "Other Demon Saints also seem to be making other delicacies."

He hadn't seen it himself but heard from many Demons that now, the five Great Saints in Wanling City had a nickname.

The Demons called them—

"The Five Brothers of Delicacies?"

In the Palace of the Polestar, the Jade Emperor couldn't help but laugh upon hearing this title, "My Imperial Brother is truly capable, managing to tame those Demon Saints so well."

"Your Majesty's words are very true,"

The Matchmaking God nodded. He had visited Wanling City a few days ago, and although it had only been half a year, it had already become very charming.

Although the five Demon Saints argued, they all seemed to have settled down, clearly having been subdued by Sun Wukong.

"Hearing what you've said, I also wish to visit Wanling City,"

the Jade Emperor sighed.

Sun Wukong's ability to get things done indeed was extraordinary, and within half a year, he already saw signs of reform.

However, he had not yet chosen a place for reform.

Would it be the Southern Continent or the Eastern Continent?

*"I must make a decision,"*

the Jade Emperor thought to himself.

He then looked far into the distance.

That gaze caused the Six-Eared Macaque in the Western Continent to quickly retract his ears.

"Oh no, oh no, the Jade Emperor has discovered me as well,"

the Six-Eared Macaque said.

"Given the circumstances,"

the Macaque King asked, "Shall we move to the Southern Continent?"

"No,"

the Six-Eared Macaque pondered, "The Jade Emperor intends to choose the Eastern Continent; I shall go there instead!"

"Great King," another little Demon asked, "why don't we stay in the Western Continent?"

*"...I am skilled at listening, able to know past causes and understand the major events of the Three Realms,"*

the Six-Eared Macaque sighed, then said:

"*Only the things Sun Wukong does, even if I hear them clearly, I can't predict how they will develop, which makes me more fearful than the Jade Emperor and Tathāgata combined."*

He feared that if he stayed in the Western Continent, he would be played with by Sun Wukong.

"How about going to the Northern Continent?"

another little Demon asked.

"I don't want to become a monk,"

the Six-Eared Macaque replied.

*This surprising alignment with Sun Wukong.*
