Luo Chao understood the gist by now, yet he couldn't quite believe it.
It turned out that cultivators, as described in novels, really did exist in this world.
The name Sanfengzi mentioned here was likely referring to the famous founder of Tai Chi, Zhang Sanfeng or Zhang Junbao, from history.
This legendary figure was said to have lived for 212 years before passing away, and it turns out he became an immortal. It's just unknown why he never returned in the end.
Listening to Xuanxuanzi's tone, he ought to be a person not inferior to Zhang Sanfeng. Achieving the Great Success of the Golden Core at 55, isn't that even more impressive than Zhang Sanfeng? However, it's unfortunate that he was not born at the right time, hence the tinge of jealousy toward Zhang Sanfeng in his words.
Luo Chao continued to look downward.
"Failed to ascend, the last bit of my longevity has been completely exhausted. I am powerless to return to Taiqing to handle the aftermath. Heaven wishes for my end, and I shall sit here until I fade away. But how can the 10,000-year legacy of Taiqing end at my hands? I leave behind the Sect's Treasure Manual, the Taiqing Profound Talisman Chapter, here, hoping that a destined person in later generations will inherit my legacy, fulfill my wish, break the apocalyptic curse of this realm, and restore the glory of the Cultivation Realm."
The engraving on the ground stopped here, Luo Chao stroked his chin, thinking, if what is written here is true, hasn't this old man been dead for nearly 200 years, yet his body hasn't decayed, and he even has body temperature? Cultivation is truly astonishing.
Luo Chao looked around, and sure enough, found a small hollow pit behind Xuanxuanzi's body, where about half a cup of snow-white viscous liquid flowed as if it had a life of its own. A piece of golden paper lay quietly beside the pit.
The liquid should be the Earth Core Milk that Xuanxuanzi expelled at the very end. Luo Chao picked up the golden paper, which began with the Taiqing Chapter. Luo Chao was a little puzzled, "Why is the name different?" Flipping it back and forth, he saw the words Profound Talisman Chapter on the back.
"So it's divided into two parts, the Taiqing Chapter should be a cultivation method, and the Profound Talisman Chapter might be the legendary Immortal Technique." Luo Chao thought.
Luo Chao couldn't help but feel a bit tempted; he wanted to kill the werewolf to avenge Baozi and Yuan Fei, but he simply didn't have the capability. Such a monster had already transcended the realm of ordinary people, even if he was the top special forces soldier, he couldn't be an opponent. But if he learned immortal methods, then naturally, he could.
"But there probably isn't any more Spiritual Qi required for cultivation left in this world. Xuanxuanzi was from 200 years ago, a time shortly after the world entered the apocalyptic era. The remaining Heaven and Earth Spiritual Qi back then might have been sufficient to satisfy the Qi Condensation mentioned in the Taiqing Chapter, or even Foundation Establishment. But 200 years have now passed, Spiritual Qi should have completely vanished, what about fully reading the Celestial Tribulation Record." Luo Chao muttered. "Whatever, if you don't try, you'll never know." Luo Chao was determined, he longed to gain powerful strength.
After a while, Luo Chao sighed in frustration. He practiced according to the Taiqing Chapter's mantras but couldn't find any supposed sensation of Qi, nor could he sense any Heaven and Earth Spiritual Qi.
At this moment, Luo Chao did not know that cultivation requires not only the Dharma Gate but also an inherent Spirit Root. Without a Spirit Root, one cannot find a sensation of Qi nor absorb Heaven and Earth Spiritual Qi.
"Is there really nothing that can be done?" At this moment, Luo Chao saw a small snake crawl to the edge of the pit, its tongue flicking out as it licked the Earth Core Milk inside, and his eyes lit up.
"Since Xuanxuanzi so greatly esteemed the millennia-old Earth Core Milk, it must prove that this treasure has extraordinary effects. Since I can't absorb Spiritual Qi, directly devouring Spiritual Liquid formed entirely by condensed Spiritual Qi should also succeed." Luo Chao thought.
"This strange and intelligent little snake likely owes its peculiarity to the long-term consumption of Earth Core Milk. I might as well try consuming a drop." With that thought, Luo Chao adopted action. He dipped a finger into the liquid and placed a drop directly into his mouth. The little snake, noticing Luo Chao's action, anxiously hissed and squealed.
"Don't be so stingy!" Luo Chao said with a laugh. He thought the small snake was upset that he consumed the Earth Core Milk.
Sitting cross-legged like Xuanxuanzi, Luo Chao attempted once again to circulate the Taiqing Chapter's mantras, and this time, there was seemingly some effect. Luo Chao's whole skin turned red, bean-sized beads of sweat appeared on his forehead, steam rose incessantly from the top of his head, and within mere moments, his whole body was drenched in sweat.
After swallowing that drop of Earth Core Milk and trying to circulate the mantras, a comfortable sensation spread throughout his body. The Earth Core Milk transformed into an energy moving through his meridians. Luo Chao wanted to guide it to the Purple Mansion in his abdomen as described in the Taiqing Chapter. Initially, everything was in order, but slowly, Luo Chao felt bursts of soreness and pain in his meridians. The Spiritual Power transformed from the Earth Core Milk kept increasing, and his meridians and Purple Mansion couldn't contain such massive energy.
Luo Chao's clothes gradually became stained red. The sweat from his pores turned slightly pink, mixed with streaks of blood. In just a short while, what oozed from his body became entirely blood. His face was covered in a mask of blood, dripping down his chin, making him look like a demon escaped from Hell, terrifying and fierce.
The Spiritual Power was no longer under Luo Chao's control, rampaging through his meridians like a wild horse free of its harness, exceeding even Luo Chao's endurance. He roared in pain, his features twisted in agony, his cries echoing painfully through the vast stalactite cave.
The veins on his forehead bulged like tiny snakes, swelling and shrinking continuously, as if they might burst out at any moment. He clenched his teeth tightly, gripping the ground with his fingers, and forcibly scraped away a chunk of the earth.
"Snap! Snap!" Luo Chao seemed to hear the sound of his meridians snapping. Streams of Spiritual Qi from the Earth Core Milk burst out of the meridians, rushing through his bone marrow; the pain was so intense it felt like his bones were being scraped. He couldn't help but bang his head against the ground.
The little snake, anxious, circled around the writhing Luo Chao, seemingly deciding on something, as it bit right into one of Luo Chao's fingers, sucking in large gulps of Luo Chao's Spiritual Qi.
In his delirium, Luo Chao felt his pain lessen significantly. It was as if someone was drawing away the excess Spiritual Qi from within him — albeit slowly, but continuously through the Latest Chapters of The Desert Hero Legend. Seizing the opportunity, he cooperated with the devouring force, channeling streams of Spiritual Qi toward the devouring source. Finally, the violent Spiritual Power within Luo Chao was mostly expelled, leaving only a tiny portion.
Luo Chao felt he could once again control that power, gritting his teeth against the pain, he guided the Spiritual Power to flow through his meridians once more. Surprisingly, this Spiritual Power, formed of Earth Core Milk, seemed to have a miraculous healing effect. The previously wrecked meridians didn't feel like tangled threads under its flow; instead, a tingling sensation arose, untangling and straightening them.
Following the Method of Inner Vision described in the Taiqing Chapter, Luo Chao immersed his mind within his body, guiding the Spiritual Power to circulate around and repair his injuries. He noticed, after this assault of Spiritual Power, his meridians had obviously widened and toughened compared to before.
