The two exchanged some information, and Chu Tian gained a general understanding of Li Guang's past and personal details.
When he arrived at the reception room, Chu Tian saw a frail figure sitting obediently on the sofa. His eyes, filled with astonishment and nervousness, curiously surveyed the surroundings.
He casually walked over, smiled, and extended his hand, saying, "Hello, Li Guang. I'm the music director here, Chu Tian. You can call me Chu Tian or Director Chu."
Hearing the voice, Li Guang almost jumped up. He then hurriedly bowed and shook hands in a panic, nearly making Chu Tian laugh out loud.
But then Chu Tian suddenly remembered how he had been just like this during his first trainee audition when he was young.
"Teacher Chu, hello. I'm Li Guang, from Sichuan-Shu Music University..."
Listening to him recite his resume as if he had practiced it several times, Chu Tian showed no sign of disapproval but instead treated him with great respect.
"Don't be nervous. Let's sit down and talk. I just wanted to chat with you."
"Ah? Is this... a second interview?"
A second interview... Was he treating me as an interviewer? Chu Tian thought.
"Don't worry, this isn't a second interview. You've already passed the audition and are now an official artist at our company. I'm here to get to know you better so that we can plan your future development."
Knowing that Li Guang had given up a teaching job because of his invitation, Chu Tian couldn't bring himself to mention anything like a second interview.
Could he really send the man back? That would be no different from toying with him.
That's why he offered the explanation, to put Li Guang at ease.
Clearly, Li Guang relaxed a great deal after hearing this.
"You graduated from Sichuan-Shu? What was your major in college?"
"Vocal music? Do you have any dreams? Is there a particular direction you want to develop in?"
Following that, Chu Tian, like any typical music director, began to inquire about Li Guang's own thoughts.
Under his guidance, Li Guang became more at ease, transitioning from initially just listening to Chu Tian to eventually speaking with animated enthusiasm about his passions.
Sister Hua, who was observing from the side, watched the scene and then left with a smile. She had many other things to attend to and couldn't afford to linger.
"Okay, I have a pretty good understanding of your situation now. Next, we have a small test."
Li Guang tensed up at the mention of a test.
He had wanted to join an entertainment company after graduation, but unfortunately, he was eliminated in the first round.
It wasn't that his abilities were lacking; rather, his appearance had lowered his score.
Objectively, Li Guang's looks weren't strikingly handsome, but he wasn't ugly either; perhaps he could be described as having neat, delicate features.
But in this era of online traffic, not having a standout appearance naturally meant losing points.
Never mind talk about 'overlooked talent.' Talent is plentiful; how many actually rise to prominence?
Every path is crowded with talented people; some may even be more gifted than you.
A shortcoming is a shortcoming; that's an undeniable reality when you think about it.
It meant one either had to possess excellent looks combined with remarkable abilities, or one's abilities had to be so outstanding that they made people overlook any shortcomings.
But Li Guang clearly didn't fit either of these criteria. Crucially, he had no idea why he was rejected back then.
After all, his grades, while not the absolute best, still placed him in the top ten of his graduating class. Yet, he alone was denied this path.
The entertainment companies certainly wouldn't explain why they didn't choose him; they just said, "You didn't make it."
That's why he harbored a sense of dread towards tests.
"Don't be scared. It's just a simple test to understand your vocal line and the versatility of your voice. This will help us select suitable songs for you to perform later on. Just relax."
What Chu Tian said was indeed true. To understand a singer, one first needs to understand the characteristics of their voice.
Not all songs are suitable for every singer; it depends on the fit.
Also, singers who can perform every type of song are virtually non-existent. Such individuals are either like Chu Tian, who possessed an almost cheat-like, heaven-defying advantage, or they have versatile but unremarkable voices, capable of singing anything without any distinctive quality.
Being a jack-of-all-trades also implies having no specialty, which is itself a drawback.
Later, Chu Tian took Li Guang to a small, adjacent recording studio for a voice test.
This place was used by other newcomers and certainly couldn't compare to Xu Qingqiu's studio. Besides, they couldn't get into her high-end studio anyway.
"First, sing me the song you're best at."
After Li Guang finished, Chu Tian instructed, "Sing this song again and try to use all your high-note ability; I want to see your limit."
Then, "Now try the low notes..."
As they went through each test, Chu Tian's eyes grew brighter and brighter.
He really did have an eye for talent; this ability was truly undeniable.
Aside from his singing skills being a bit immature and some of his technique lacking perfection, his voice alone was, in a word, stunning!
How to describe Li Guang's voice? Compared to another world, he was a perfect copy of 'Zhou Shen', yet different.
His voice could switch seamlessly between true voice and falsetto, and his lower register extended even further down.
While his female vocal imitations were convincingly real, his male voice possessed an additional soothing, mellow richness.
In other words, he could sing in warm male tones, teenage tones, female voices, high notes, and many other vocal colors.
Aside from raspy/smoky voices, timbres conveying world-weariness, and powerful, rugged masculine tones, he handled most other popular vocal colors with ease.
It had to be said, they really had stumbled upon a treasure.
After getting Li Guang settled, Chu Tian took the test data he had recorded and went to find Li Chunhua.
"Sister Hua, you've struck it rich! This guy is a real talent!"
Upon hearing his words, Li Chunhua couldn't help but frown.
"What do you mean *I've* struck it rich? Isn't it you and your wife who've struck it rich?"
"Eh? What do you mean?"
"What do *I* mean? I'm just an employee working for you two. Who do you think really struck it rich?"
Chu Tian watched Sister Hua, a dark line forming on his forehead, not having expected her to have such a retort ready.
"Sister Hua, it's no fun if you put it that way. It just slipped out."
"You sure have a loose tongue. Let me tell you, go discuss it thoroughly with Qingqiu. I'm just an agent; I can't be the general manager. You two need to find someone competent quickly. I'm already worked to death here!"
Li Chunhua was indeed incredibly busy, so busy she felt like her head was about to explode.
Other general managers were considered well-off with just a secretary. But her? On one hand, there's the company's assistant team here, coordinating with every department. She's also frequently on business trips; without this team, she simply couldn't manage.
Then there was another assistant team because, after all, the company's and Xu Qingqiu's many business dealings needed to be handled, and she simply didn't have the time—she was already stretched far too thin.
So, there were also relevant assistant teams to help her with the workload.
But no matter how many teams there were, what was the use? Didn't everything still end up on her desk for review?
The crux is that many matters concerning Xu Qingqiu require her personal attention. Given the status and caliber of the people and events involved, would it be appropriate for her, the agent, to send an assistant instead of going herself?
To say she wasn't angry was a lie; to say she wasn't tired was an even bigger lie.
What was even more maddening was that Chu Tian and Xu Qingqiu were always flaunting their affection in front of her. This made her even more irritated.
Seeing Sister Hua rubbing her temples, Chu Tian immediately backed down.
He had no choice. If Sister Hua threw in the towel, he would be the only one left to take over, and he definitely didn't want to get dragged into that.
"Oh, Sister Hua, you've worked so hard. Here, let me rub your shoulders for you~"
Looking at his obsequious expression, Sister Hua suddenly found that, for some reason, she preferred the old Chu Tian—the quiet, inconspicuous one.
He was nothing like the shameless flatterer he was now; the worst part was, she couldn't even get genuinely angry with him.
"Alright, it would be a blessing if you two just stopped your public displays of affection in front of me. Now, tell me, what do you want?"
They had already wasted a fair bit of time, and everyone was busy. Sister Hua was just venting her frustrations; she hadn't actually thought of quitting.
"It's nothing major. But with this Li Guang, we've really found a gem. Look, here's the data from the tests I just ran."
Chu Tian handed a stack of forms to Sister Hua.
"Look here: high note rating A+, low note rating A-, falsetto rating A..."
"What do you think, Sister Hua? Didn't I say we struck gold? With his potential, if he's trained well and gets a few good songs, he'll definitely become a star. Just imagine, by then..."
Watching Chu Tian ramble on, Li Chunhua's expression suddenly became quite animated. She looked at him with a smile that wasn't quite a smile, as if she were brewing something.
